Gharibabadi made the remarks in a webinar on examining the effects of unilateral coercive acts in the presence of the UN Special Rapporteur on Wednesday.
He said that one of the characteristics of recent history is the tendency of several countries, especially the US, to impose unilateral coercive measures against the countries to achieve their foreign policy goals.
He added that unilateral coercive actions by countries such as the US are illegal acts that are unilaterally imposed and collectively operated by will or force.
The US uses such measures as a tool to influence or force changes in the policies of other countries, he further noted.
Unilateral coercive measures are contrary to the right to development, he said, adding that unilateral sanctions prevent economic activists from doing normal business with the target country and hinder the development of industrial infrastructure and technology transfer.
“It is time for the international community to reject such criminal acts and call on the US to immediately lift all its illegal sanctions. We call on the international community to help build a global consensus against such inhumane acts”, he reiterated.
