Reza Najafi met with Fernando Arias on the sidelines of the annual conference of the member states of the Chemical Weapons Convention in the Netherlands on Monday. The two officials discussed potential avenues for cooperation in various areas.
The Iranian official warned about the crimes committed by the Israeli regime in its genocidal onslaught on the Gaza Strip and the use of chemical weapons against the oppressed nation.
He urged the OPCW to monitor developments in Gaza and to enhance efforts towards the global implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, emphasizing that the goals of the Convention cannot be achieved without the complete destruction of all chemical weapons arsenals worldwide.
Referring to the US-imposed unilateral sanctions against Iran and Washington’s flagrant violation of the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention, Najafi urged the OPCW director-general to facilitate access to essential medicines and medical equipment for Iranian veterans of chemical warfare.
