IRGC strikes US unmanned vessel in Hormuz, warns of ‘decisive’ response to enemy moves

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it has attacked a Remotely Operated Vessel (ROV) belonging to the terrorist US military in Iran’s southern coast.

In a statement released on Sunday, the IRGC’s Public Relations Department said that the vessel targeted was attempting to enter the protected area of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has been administering since the early days of the illegal US-Israeli aggression against the country.

“With the grace and favor of Almighty God, every desperate move by the enemy is being closely monitored by brave, self-sacrificing IRGC Navy forces and will be met with a decisive attack,” it said.

The IRGC also emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz “is under the management of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that any move by the child-killing enemy will receive a firm response.”

“The aggressor United States must understand that it has no choice but to leave the region and stop its acts of mischief,” it added.

Iran restricted transit through the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic waterway responsible for a fifth of global oil demand, in response to the criminal US-Israeli war of aggression that began on February 28 and came to a halt under a ceasefire on April 8.‌

On June 17, Tehran and Washington signed the Pakistan-brokered Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), whose Article 5 places responsibility for reopening and managing the strait squarely in Iran’s hands.

However, the US attempted to undermine Iran’s sovereignty over the vital global energy chokepoint by establishing an unsafe corridor near the Omani shores. The US also resumed its aerial assaults on Iran and imposed a naval blockade of the country in violation of the war-ending deal.

The unlawful US measures prompted Iran to declare the Strait of Hormuz closed to all traffic.

The Islamic Republic has stressed that the reopening of the critical waterway depends on US compliance with its obligations under the MoU.
