Hyderabad: Marking the 100 years of Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda, a centenary marathon was organised at the HMDA Grounds near IMAX on Sunday, drawing more than 5,000 participants from across Telangana.

Organised under the theme “Run for Faith, Run for Sewa”, the marathon brought together people cutting across caste, creed and age groups, reflecting the spirit of community, inclusiveness and service associated with the historic Sikh institution.

The event featured 3K and 5K runs as well as a Family Walkathon, with children, youngsters, families and senior citizens participating enthusiastically. The marathon was flagged off by prominent Sikh personalities at the HMDA Grounds. Participants in the 3K run proceeded towards People’s Plaza, while those taking part in the 5K run continued towards Jal Vihar.

The organisers said the marathon was conceived not merely as a sporting event but as an inclusive community celebration marking a significant milestone in the history of the Gurudwara.

The marathon marks the beginning of a series of religious, cultural and community programmes planned as part of the centenary year celebrations. The September programme will include Akhand Path Sahib, Kirtan Darbar, and Amrit Sanchar, apart from several other spiritual, cultural and community-oriented programmes.
