Nehru Zoological Park celebrated World Tiger Day with tiger adoption, keepers’ talks, student competitions and a rally. SBI renewed its adoption of five tigers by donating Rs 15 lakh, while zoo officials highlighted the importance of tiger conservation and captive breeding efforts.

Hyderabad: Adoption, keepers’ talk, rally and competitions for students marked the World Tiger Day celebrations at the Nehru Zoological Park here on Wednesday.
SBI local head office at Koti once again adopted five tigers for a period of one year, with chief general manager Nilesh Dwevedi handing over a cheque of Rs 15 lakh to Zoo curator J Vasantha.
To create awareness among people, an animal keepers talk show was conducted at the Tiger enclosure where the keeper briefed the visitors about his daily duty activities and the behaviour of Tigers in captivity.
The zoo management, as part of the celebrations, organised several events, including drawing, painting, essay writing, quiz, elocution and debate competitions, for school students.
A mega slogan writing programme on a 50-foot banner was conducted near the bioscope hall. A selfie point was erected at the Tiger enclosure, supported with face paintings at the bioscope hall. Earlier, a tiger rally was flagged off at the Main entrance, with about 240 students participating in it.
Speaking on the occasion, Vasantha said July 29 is celebrated as International Tiger Day in order to create awareness among the people on Tiger conservation. The Zoo Park is successfully breeding tigers in captivity, she said. Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen and SBI officials also participated in the event.
