Hyderabad: Telangana Food Safety Department during inspections of 14 establishments in Hyderabad destroyed 60 kg of ghee found unfit for consumption and seized 850 kg of suspected adulterated ghee.

Food Safety Commissioner Sangeetha Satyanarayana, in a statement issued here on Friday said the seized products would be stored pending laboratory reports, and action would be taken against the food business operators if adulteration is confirmed.

The Food Safety Department acting on credible information regarding the mixing of substances like palm oil and vanaspati into ghee conducted special inspections across the state on July 14 and 15 in coordination with the police.

While officials preliminarily confirmed the presence of foreign fats in ghee produced by some licensed entities, inspections also revealed that other firms were manufacturing and selling ghee without any license or registration. The Commissioner stated that ghee samples have been collected and sent for testing, and legal action will be taken against violators based on the test results.

Sangeetha Satyanarayana advised consumers to purchase ghee only from licensed and trustworthy establishments. She emphasized the importance of checking the FSSAI license number and manufacturing label before making a purchase.

Consumers were advised to retain purchase bills and immediately report to the Food Safety Department if they suspect the sale of adulterated food products or unlicensed sales.
