Yemen has strongly condemned the British government’s “hostile” decision to designate the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a so-called terror group, praising the elite military force for defending Iran against adversaries.
Yemen’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Wednesday, two days after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his government would designate the IRGC as a threat under a new National Security Act, banning support for the military force.
The ministry censured London for its “Zionist and worn-out” attempt to blacklist the IRGC.
“The IRGC is an effective Islamic force in countering Zionist plots in the region. Western countries seek weak Arab and Muslim states that function only as instruments for advancing their evil agenda and plans in the region,” it said.
It further “commended the role of the IRGC in defending the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic and in defeating the conspiracies of the enemies of Iran and the Muslim Ummah.”
Meanwhile, the ministry reaffirmed Yemen’s support for Iran, as well as the country’s right to defend itself and respond to US aggression and blockade.
Over the past few days, the terrorist US military has conducted waves of deadly aerial assaults on Iran and reinstated a blockade of Iranian ports in flagrant violation of a war-termination deal.
In response, Iranian armed forces have launched heavy reprisal attacks against strategic American targets across the region.
The US and the Israeli regime waged their illegal war of aggression against Iran on February 28. However, forty days later, on April 8, the enemies were forced to accept a ceasefire amid Iran’s brave resistance, successful retaliatory operations, and powerful grip on the Strait of Hormuz.
On June 17, Tehran and Washington signed the Pakistan-brokered Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which calls for a permanent end to hostilities across all fronts and includes a commitment from both sides to hold further talks on a final agreement in the next 60 days.
