Police action during student protest near Sagar Ring Road sparks outrage in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana police high-handedness has reportedly come to the fore during a protest by girl students near Sagar ring road here on Monday evening.

Girl students of a private junior college hit the road, alleging that their college management was not issuing their intermediate certificates.

Students lamented that they were not able to attend engineering and conventional degree programme admission counselling due to lack of certificates, including the TC.

A video of girl students protesting went viral on social media platforms on Tuesday. With traffic congestion reported in the area for a long time, police reached the spot to disperse the protesters.

A police officer from Adibatla police station reportedly lost his temper and pushed female students away from the road besides roughly shoving some men aside to make way for traffic.

The police officer was also accused of assaulting some student activists. Distressed by the conduct of the police, some students broke down.

The police officer’s behaviour evoked criticism from netizens, with some calling for his suspension. A X user @Gouthamtime posted, “If you don’t even know how to behave around girls… you should not wear that uniform”. While tagging Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, another X user @ParllelWo posted, “Suspend him”.
