Himayat Sagar water level rising after rains, HMWSSB on alert

Heavy rains in catchment areas have led to a steady rise in the water level of Himayat Sagar reservoir since Monday morning. The HMWSSB said officials are monitoring the situation and has urged the residents downstream to remain vigilant.

Hyderabad: Due to the rains in catchment areas around the city, the water level in Himayat Sagar reservoir has been rising steadily since early Monday morning.

The HMWSSB, in a press release issued here, said that officials were constantly monitoring the situation and, if necessary, there is a possibility of releasing flood water from the reservoir.


In this context, the water board appealed to the government departments concerned, disaster management units, local bodies, as well as the people living in the downstream areas of the twin reservoirs to be on alert.

HMWSSB Managing Director, Ashok Reddy said that the authorities were constantly monitoring the situation of the twin reservoirs of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. He directed the departments to work vigilantly in coordination and urged the people living in downstream areas of the reservoirs to observe the situation and follow the instructions of the authorities and take precautionary measures if necessary.
