Hyderabad: Senior urologist Dr Rahul Devraj has been appointed the Director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) for a term of three-years, a notification from Principal Secretary, Health, Dr Christina Chongthu said.
Dr Devraj succeeds senior surgical gastroenterologist, Dr. Bheerappa Nagari, who was appointed as the Director, NIMS, in June 2023 for a three-year term.
Dr Rahul is the Head of Urology at NIMS and has led the urology team to conduct 2000 kidney transplants, making it one of the leading renal transplant centres in the country within the government healthcare sector.
Last year, under Dr Rahul Devraj, the hospital’s renal transplant programme achieved a unique milestone by completing the first robotic renal transplant in a government hospital setting in South India. In the last three-years, NIMS surgeons had taken-up 500 kidney transplants.
