Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri police asked people to be alert about fraudulent websites and fake booking links on social media platforms claiming to provide tickets for the upcoming IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on 22 May.

Cyber fraudsters are exploiting the high public demand for IPL tickets by creating fake ticket booking websites and duplicate apps sharing fraudulent booking links through WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook.

They are trying to cheat by offering “VIP”, “Tatkal”, “last-minute”, or “discounted” tickets collecting payments through UPI, QR codes, bank transfers, and fake payment gateways and sending fake screenshots and fabricated booking confirmations, the Malkajgiri police warned.

The official ticket booking and registration platform for the IPL match is only the District App by Zomato, the police stated.

The police advised people not to trust unknown websites, unofficial links, or social media advertisements for IPL tickets.

They asked citizens to verify the authenticity of websites before making any payment and book tickets only through official platforms and authorised applications.

The Cyber Crime Police, Malkajgiri, are actively monitoring such fraudulent activities and appropriate legal action will be initiated against persons involved in online ticket scams and phishing activities, the officials warned.
