Why Chinese Women Are Doing Maternity Photoshoots With Fake Baby Bumps

Reflecting a changing societal landscape, single women in China are now opting for maternity photoshoots with fake baby bumps, capturing this milestone in their lives despite the country’s declining birth rate and low marriage rates. This trend, as reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), challenges traditional Chinese values that once stigmatized single pregnancy.

The rise of this trend can be attributed to women’s desire to capture beautiful maternity photos while maintaining their current physique, anticipating potential body changes during future pregnancies.

The “premade maternity photos” trend gained national attention after a Generation Z influencer shared a video and photos of her experience on social media. Meizi Gege, who boasts over 5.7 million followers on a prominent social media platform, explained, “While I’m still slim, I wore a fake belly to take maternity photos and enjoyed a pre-made life. I even did it with my best friend!”

In the video, Meizi proudly displays her slim figure while wearing the “fake belly.” According to SCMP, a 26-year-old woman revealed she had taken her maternity photos at 23, despite not being married, while another woman mentioned taking wedding photos at 22, “just in case I get wrinkles by 30.”

However, the trend has sparked criticism for promoting narrow beauty standards that idealize being “white, skinny, and young.” Critics argue that it fosters body image anxiety among new mothers by perpetuating the unrealistic expectation that women should maintain a youthful, slim figure during pregnancy.

A user wrote, ” I will shoot my 70th birthday photos now and then post them on social media later. It will make me look so young!”

“I will find some time to arrange my funeral pictures before I die,” another user wrote on Chinese social media platform.

No more benefit shows, special ticket prices for Tollywood in Telangana, says Congress Govt

Hyderabad: The State government has decided to do away with benefit shows and special privileges like ticket hikes for Telugu movies. The decision comes in the wake of the Sandhya Theatre stampede during a benefit show of Allu Arjun‘s ‘Pushpa 2 – The Rule’ recently. The stampede claimed the life of a woman, Revathi, while her son Sri Tej is still battling for life in hospital.

The announcement was made by Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy in the Assembly on Saturday. The Minister said the State government would not permit any benefit shows and special privileges like ticket hikes anymore.

At the same time, the Minister also announced a financial assistance of Rs.25 lakh to the victim’s family from his personal account. The State government was bearing the medical treatment expenditure of Sri Tej, he added.

Harbhajan, Kohli and now Jadeja, Indian crickets who came under Australian media’s radar

Hyderabad: The Indian cricket team which is currently playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, found itself under the scanner of Australian media, yet again, as Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja‘s press conference was dragged into unwarranted controversy.

As per reports, during the press conference ahead of the fourth Test of BGT in Mebourne, Jadeja interacted with the media in Hindi. The Australian media claimed the all-rounder refused to answer questions in English and left the session even before the Australian reporters could pose questions.

However, the Indian media group and the team’s media manager refuted the claims saying the cricketer did not refuse to answer the questions in English but was genuinely in a hurry to board the team bus after a training session.

Moreover, the highly anticipated T20 match between the media representatives of both nations was ultimately scrapped owing to the press conference controversy.

Few days prior to Jadeja’s controversy, star player Virat Kohli was also termed as ‘bully’ following a confrontation of the cricketer with the Australian media over filming him along with his family at the Melbourne airport.

Kohli, who arrived at Melbourne along with wife Anushka and his two kids, requested the media to film him but not his wife and children. The video of the cricketer’s reaction has gone viral on social media drawing heavy criticism from the Australian media fraternity.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that such altercations has occurred between the Indian cricket team and the Australian media.

Harbhajan Singh’s ban during the 2008 Sydney Test

One of the earliest and high-profile controversy occurred during the infamous 2008 Sydney Test match, when Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was accused of making a racial slur against Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds.

The controversy sparked heated reactions in both countries, with Australian media supporting Symonds and the Indian media defending Singh. The all-rounder, after a hearing, was found guilty and was handed a three-match ban.

The BCCI and Indian cricket team strongly protested resulting in overturning the rule, but Singh was fined 50% of his match fee.
Kohli vs. Australian media in 2017 Australian tour

Another altercation occurred during the India vs. Australia 2017 Test series, where Australian players were accused of unsporting conduct and verbal sledging. Virat Kohli, in particular, was found in the Australian media crosshairs for his vocal criticism of Australian players.

Kohli made it to the headlines of several Australian papers, where one paper termed him ‘egomaniac,’ while the other called him ‘childish.’ The Australian media fired at the cricketer after he openly condemned the behaviour of Australian cricketers.

The 2021 Gabba Test

After the historical win against Australia in 2021 in Gabba, tensions flared up yet again as the Australian media criticised India’s celebrations. The Indian cricketers, visibly upset, expressed frustration over constant scrutiny and criticism of Australian media on Indian players.

The constant friction between the Indian cricket team and Australian media has caught the eyes of cricket fans across the country where many question the close scrutiny of Australian media on Indian players.

ISRO To Study How Crops Grow In Space On PSLV C60 Mission

The PSLV Orbital Experiment Module (POEM) will carry 24 experiments.

New Delhi:

Demonstration of seed germination in outer space, a robotic arm to catch a tethered debris there, and testing of green propulsion systems are some of the experiments planned on the POEM-4 — the fourth stage of ISRO’s PSLV rocket that remains in orbit after launching a satellite.

The PSLV-C60 mission, slated for an yearend launch, is scheduled to place the twin satellites ‘Chaser and Target’ to demonstrate the space docking technologies that are crucial for building India’s space station.

The PSLV Orbital Experiment Module (POEM) will carry 24 experiments — 14 from various ISRO labs and 10 from private universities and start-ups — to demonstrate various technologies in space.

ISRO plans to grow eight cowpea seeds from seed germination and plant sustenance until the two-leaf stage in a closed-box environment with active thermal control as part of the Compact Research Module for Orbital Plant Studies (CROPS) developed by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.

The Amity Plant Experimental Module in Space (APEMS), developed by Amity University, Mumbai, plans to study the growth of spinach in a microgravity environment.

Two parallel experiments will be carried out simultaneously — one on POEM-4 in space and one on the ground at the university.

The experiment’s outcome will provide insights into how higher plants sense the direction of gravity and light.

The Debris Capture Robotic Manipulator, developed by VSSC, will demonstrate the capturing of tethered debris by a robotic manipulator using visual serving and object motion prediction in the space environment.

The robotic manipulator will be capable of capturing free-floating debris and refuelling tethered and free-floating spacecraft in future POEM missions.

Mumbai-based start-up Manastu Space will test Vyom-2U, the green propulsion thruster, that uses a blend of hydrogen peroxide and in-house additives as fuel, with the goal of providing a safer and higher-performing alternative to hydrazine for space applications.

The Varuna payload, developed by Piersight Space-Ahmedabad, is an in-orbit demonstration of a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) in a CubeSat form factor.

This mission marks the initial step towards establishing a constellation of SAR and Automatic Identification System (AIS) satellites, aiming to provide persistent, near real-time monitoring of all human and industrial activity at sea.

Indian-origin man jailed for life for mother’s murder at UK home

After killing his mother, Singh went out and bought a sack barrow and spade to dig up the garden. He intended burying Mrs Kaur’s body but was disturbed before he could do that.

London: A 48-year-old Indian-origin man who attacked his 76-year-old mother in their family home in Leicester, eastern England, has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Sindeep Singh was arrested after Leicestershire Police discovered the deceased, Bhajan Kaur, with significant injuries to her head and face on May 13. Following a 16-day trial at Leicester Crown Court, Singh was found guilty of murder and sentenced this week to life in prison with a minimum term of 31 years behind bars before being considered for parole.

“This was a deeply disturbing case which uncovered the lengths Singh went to, to cover his tracks,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team.

“After killing his mother, Singh went out and bought a sack barrow and spade to dig up the garden. He intended burying Mrs Kaur’s body but was disturbed before he could do that. The house had been cleaned and there was a very strong smell of disinfectant. There was clear evidence showing the planning after her death,” he said.

The detective revealed that when Singh was approached by officers, he provided false details and initially claimed to have no knowledge of the incident. But during the police investigation, it was established that Singh acted following several arguments over the ownership of the family home, which he believed had been left to him by his late father.

“This has been an extremely distressing and challenging time for Mrs Kaur’s family, they have been left devastated at the loss of their dear mother. They have shown immense courage and dignity throughout the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that this case ended with a trial and the family had to sit through the proceedings and listen to the details of Mrs Kaur’s final moments. This is in no way easy for them – they’ve lost a loved one and will now have to live with the fact that Mrs Kaur’s life was taken by one of their own,” he added.

The court heard how previously Kaur had reported Singh for his behaviour and he was even arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour and released on bail while those enquiries were ongoing. The investigation revealed that Singh had been living in his car on the driveway of the home, and on the day of the murder, Kaur had let him into the house.

CCTV evidence showed Singh leaving the property later on the same day and going to purchase a sack and spade from a nearby shop. He then returned to the house on Bolsover Street and when relatives were unable to get hold of Kaur, they went to her home where they discovered her body. When police officers arrived at the scene, they also found that ground in the rear garden had been dug up creating a large hole.

Hyderabad housing market witnessed 19% sales drop and 58% decline in new launches: Report

Hyderabad: Once flourishing and an envy of every metro in the country, Hyderabad residential real estate seems to be fumbling to a steep decline, both in terms of sales and also new launches.

The latest to highlight what could be described as a tragic dwindling of real estate market fortunes in the city is the ‘Real Insight Residential Report’ by PropTiger.com.

The report which examined eight residential markets of the country during July-September quarter of 2024 revealed that Hyderabad faced a notable decline, with sales dropping 19 per cent year-on-year (YoY) compared to last year. While 14,191 units were sold in Q3 of 2023, the numbers dwindled to 12,296 in Q2 2024 and further dropped to 11,564 units in Q3 2024.

Not just sales, the prevailing market trend also shows a massive drop of 58 per cent in the new projects launched during this year quarter i.e., the Q3 2024. In the ‘New Launches Comparison (YoY Q3 2024 vs. Q3 2023), PropTiger.com report said, “Hyderabad experienced a sharp 58% YoY decline, with new launches falling to 8,546 units from 20,481 in the previous year.”

Though the report points out that the number of new residential units launched in the top eight markets had a significant 25% drop, the highest drop has been registered in Hyderabad. Also, the city’s drop comes in the backdrop of Delhi NCR witnessing a robust 76 per cent YoY rise in new launches, Mumbai dropping by 13 per cent, and Pune’s new supply contracting by 3 per cent.

In terms of sales too, Delhi NCR saw a significant sales surge of 29 per cent YoY and Mumbai, while leading in overall volume, experiencing a slight 1 per cent dip, the PropTiger.com said. Bengaluru’s sales decreased by 11 per cent YoY and Ahmedabad recorded a 9 per cent YoY drop, it added.

PropTiger.com report said a sharp increase in home prices, averaging a nearly 20 per cent increase across the top eight cities, impacted affordability leading to a 5 per cent YoY drop in overall sales. New launches witnessed a more significant 25 per cent YoY decrease compared to the same quarter in 2023.

Vikas Wadhawan, CFO of REA India and Business Head of PropTiger.com, said, “With the festive season kicking off with Navratri, renewed buyer interest and a spike in sales activity are anticipated. The market frenzy has slowed, creating a more stable environment for end-users.”

Govt move to replace Dharani with Bhu Bharati will prove counterproductive, says Kavitha

While discussing the Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights in Land) Bill, 2024, in the Legislative Council on Saturday, Kavitha expressed concerns that the bill would create confusion across the State, causing difficulties for people in resolving land-related issues. Defending the BRS government’s initiative to introduce the Dharani portal for land registration, she emphasized that Dharani serves as a protective shield for farmers, effectively curbing land scams in the State.

Govt move to replace Dharani with Bhu Bharati will prove counterproductive, says Kavitha

Hyderabad: Terming the move of the Congress government to replace Dharani with Bhu Bharati portal as a retrograde move, BRS MLC K Kavitha warned that the Bhumata portal would lead to land grabbing and other issues creating problem for people of the State.

Speaking on Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights in Land) Bill, 2024 in the Legislative Council on Saturday, Kavitha said the Bhu Bharathi would create chaos in the State and that people would face problems in resolving land issues. Defending the BRS government initiative to introduce Dharani portal to register lands, she said the Dharani was a protective shield for farmers of the State and that it helped in arresting land scam in the State.

In the past, if tenant farmers filed cases, farmers used to go around the courts for 20-25 years, hence the then Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao brought reforms and through which he made sure that only the farmer had the right to own the land, she said, adding that Chandrashekhar Rao provided land security to farmers, and many land problems were resolved through the Dharani.

About 35,749 employees cleared the revenue records in 100 days, after which the land details were uploaded in the Dharani, she said, adding that the BRS government saved government lands with the Dharani, and after it came into existence, not a single inch of government land was alienated.

She reminded that the BRS government had brought the land registration system closer to the people, and that the work could be completed in 42 minutes by doing registration and mutation at the same time, and that all land-related work was completed in a matter of minutes.

Due to the correctness of land records, land rates had increased and the wealth of the State had increased, she said, adding that many disputes used to arise in the State due to manual land records, which Dharani solved.

“Due to the clarity of land records and the names of the owners, farmers were provided with Rythu Bandhu. The BRS government provided Rythu Bandhu to about 66 lakh farmers due to Dharani. Earlier crop loans were not even available.

But after Dharani came, banks started giving crop loans. Thus, farmers were freed from private moneylenders,”she said.
If land titles were written with 32 columns again, the old system would come back and disputes would arise between farmers, which would result in registration of cases and financial burden, she cautioned.

Qatari delegation to hold meeting with HTS leader

Qatar was one of the main supporters of terrorist groups in Syria after the beginning of the unrest in this country in 2011. Now with the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s government, Doha is seeking to expand relations with this country.

Qatari sources announced that the Qatari Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi headed a delegation to Damascus on Monday and is set to meet and talk with Tahrir al-Sham ringleader Mohammad Al-Jolani.

The expansion of diplomatic and political relations with the future government of Syria will be one of the main axes of this trip.

During the last few years, Qatar has played a special role in Syria’s current affairs by expanding its relations with Turkey. Even now, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and what is called the Syrian National Army (supported by Turkey) have close relations with Qatar.
