"Maharashtra Chief Minister Will Be From BJP": Ajit Pawar

'Maharashtra Chief Minister Will Be From BJP': Ajit Pawar

The Maharashtra Chief Minister will be from BJP, ally Ajit Pawar said today, adding that the two Deputy Chief Ministers will be from the alliance partners.

Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the BJP are the three partners in the Mahayuti alliance. The BJP emerged the single largest party in the state polls with 132 seats. Mr Pawar’s party won 41 seats while Eknath Shinde’s party secured 57 seats. Together the three parties won 230 seats in the 288-member assembly, well above the majority mark of 145.

“During the meeting (Delhi meeting of Mahayuti leaders) it was decided that Mahayuti will form the government with Chief Minister from the BJP and the remaining two parties will have Deputy Chief Ministers,” said Mr Pawar.

On the question of delay in forming the government – the Maharashtra Assembly term ended on November 26 – Mr Pawar said, “This is not the first time there has been a delay… If you remember, in 1999, one month was taken for government formation.”

Six days into the declaration of the poll results, the BJP has not yet called a meeting of its MLAs-elect nor appointed the party’s legislature party leader. However, the Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced today that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place on December 5 at 5 pm at Mumbai’s iconic Azad Maidan.

The event, said the BJP Maharashtra Chief, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had credited “Ek hain toh safe hain (together, we are safe)” call for unity for the Maharashtra verdict.

Earlier this week, Eknath Shinde, the outgoing Chief Minister, said he would not be an “obstacle” and go by the decision of the BJP Central leadership regarding the top post. This effectively narrows down the choice to Devendra Fadnavis, who has been a Chief Minister in the past, unless the party decides to go in for a fresh face.

US media releases new alleged details on Iran nuclear program

Iran informed the International Atomic Energy Agency about plans to install more centrifuges to enrich uranium in response to an IAEA resolution that criticized Tehran for allegedly insufficient cooperation with the organization, Reuters claimed, citing an IAEA report.

According to the alleged report, enrichment wouldn’t exceed 60% purity, a level that is set by the nuclear industry development plan.

The Agency also claimed that Tehran informed the IAEA that eight recently added cascades of IR-6 machines would enrich uranium to up to 5% purity.

On November 21, the IAEA Board of Governors in a 19-3 vote adopted a West-backed resolution accusing Iran of allegedly insufficient cooperation with the organization. Twelve board members abstained. According to the resolution, the IAEA should prepare a detailed report on Iran’s nuclear program by spring 2025. Iran responded by announcing its intention to bring online a significant number of new centrifuges for uranium enrichment.

Telangana: Lack of solar equipment manufacturing units makes solar installation costly

Hyderabad: With very few solar power equipment manufacturing units present in the State, solar modules and other equipment have become costly leading to a simultaneous increase in the cost of installation of solar panels in the State.

Since a majority of the manufacturing units related to solar power equipment are located in other States, the consumers not only get equipment at a higher price, but also there is a delay in executing solar projects in the State. Due to lack of availability of solar equipment on time, there is inordinate delay in implementation of Central schemes related to rooftop solar plants and other projects in the State as well.

According to the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) list of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Gujarat is the leading solar module manufacturing State with 32 solar enlisted module manufacturers, whereas Telangana has just six manufacturing units. As there are very few manufacturing units in the State, the suppliers and power plant executing companies have to heavily depend on companies having manufacturing units in other States. Due to this the cost of solar equipment has gone up in Telangana, leading to an increase in the cost of installation of solar panels.

The demand for solar power had been growing rapidly in the State and to meet the demand, a large number of solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing plants were needed in the State, hence the government should take initiative to set up solar equipment manufacturing units in the State,Telangana State Solar Energy Association president B Ashok Kumar Goud said.

“If solar energy equipment manufacturing units are set up in the State, the demand of our State could be easily met. Consumers will get the equipment at affordable prices. The State government will also get a good income in the form of GST and local youth will get jobs either directly or indirectly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) officials informed that the State was taking steps to invite big companies to set up their manufacturing units in the State. “Efforts are being made to attract companies involved in solar equipment manufacturing. CM and Deputy CM have been encouraging industries to set up units in Telangana,”the officials said.

"Every Attack Makes Us Stronger": Gautam Adani Responds To US Allegations

'Every Attack Makes Us Stronger': Gautam Adani Responds To US Allegations

Gautam Adani addresses the 51st Gem and Jewellery Awards

Jaipur:

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani today responded to the legal matter involving the US Department of Justice as a challenge which the Group has faced “not for the first time”.

“As most of you would have read, less than two weeks back, we faced a set of allegations from the US about compliance practices at Adani Green Energy. This is not the first time we have faced such challenges. What I can tell you is that every attack makes us stronger and every obstacle becomes a stepping stone for a more resilient Adani Group,” Mr Adani said at the 51st Gem and Jewellery Awards in Rajasthan’s Jaipur.

“The fact is that despite a lot of the vested reporting, no one from the Adani side has been charged with any violation of the FCPA or any conspiracy to obstruct justice. Yet, in today’s world, negativity spreads faster than facts – and as we work through the legal process, I want to reconfirm our absolute commitment to world class regulatory compliance,” Mr Adani said.

He told the gathering that despite the successes of the Adani Group, the challenges it has faced were even bigger. “These challenges have not broken us. Instead, they have defined us. They have made us tougher and give us the unshakeable belief that after every fall, we will rise again, stronger, and more resilient than before.”

He recalled the attack by US-based short seller Hindenburg Research in January 2023.

“… Just as we were getting ready to launch our follow-on public offering (FPO), we faced a short-selling attack initiated from abroad. This was not a typical financial strike; it was a double hit – targeting our financial stability and pulling us into a political controversy. All of this was further amplified by certain media with vested interests. But even in the face of such adversity, our commitment to our principles remained strong,” Mr Adani said.

“After successfully raising Rs 20,000 crore from India’s largest-ever FPO, we made the extraordinary decision to return the proceeds. We then further demonstrated our resilience by raising capital from several international sources and proactively reducing our debt to EBITDA ratio to below 2.5 times, an unmatched metric in the global infrastructure space.

“Moreover, our all-time record financial results in the same year showcased our commitment to operational excellence. Not a single Indian or foreign credit rating agency downgraded us. Finally, the Supreme Court of India’s affirmation of our actions validated our approach,” Mr Adani said.

Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani, and senior executive Vneet Jaain are clear of any bribery charges per the US Department of Justice, the Adani Group has said.

Adani Green, a firm under the Adani Group, had also called media reports on the US legal matter as “incorrect”, in a stock exchange filing.

The indictment by the Department of Justice includes five counts, but the first and fifth counts – conspiracy to violate the FCPA and conspiracy to obstruct justice – do not mention the three directors, Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani, and Vneet Jaain, the Adani Group said.

The Adani Group statement said that a “flawed understanding” of the US indictment by various media, foreign as well as Indian, has led to “incorrect and reckless reporting” that the three Adani Group directors faced corruption and bribery charges.

The US indictment relies only on claims that bribes were discussed or promised. It did not offer any evidence that Indian government officials received bribes from Adani executives, the group said.

Farmers have to suffer losses for development, says Revanth Reddy

Mahabubnagar: Asserting that an industrial park would be set up in Kodangal, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said farmers would have to suffer land losses if development has to take place in the Palamuru region.

Speaking at the Rythu Pandaga programme here, he reasoned that without land acquisition, industries could not be established and jobs could not be provided to youth, also trying to justify his government’s moves by saying that land was acquired in the past for establishing industries and constructing projects.

“Did farmers attack officials during the construction of Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam projects? Had they opposed the works, the projects would not have been completed,” Revanth Reddy said, stating that farmers, especially those in Kollapur and other areas, too had lost their lands for the Srisailam project.

Claiming that it was with the intention of providing 25,000 jobs to unemployed youth that the State government was trying to set up an industrial park at Kodangal, he accused the BRS of creating hurdles and instigating farmers to oppose acquisition of 1300 acres.

Irrespective of the opposition, the industrial park would be set up in Kodangal, he asserted, adding that if need be, the compensation would be increased from Rs.10 lakh per acre to Rs.20 lakh per acre.
Claiming that after being jailed, tribals were approaching him to clear the cases booked against them, he said the Chief Minister and law were different entities. There was no idea on when they would even get bail, he said.

Promising to spend Rs.20,000 crore in a year on development works in Mahabubnagar with Rs.1 lakh crore to be spent in five years, he claimed that water would be supplied to 20 lakh acres in the district. He also said Rs.2,747 crore was released for waiving crop loans of 3.17 lakh farmers in the fourth installment of the crop loan waiver scheme.
