JLL India report highlights country’s robust growth in hospitality sector

Hyderabad: JLL India has unveiled its report ‘Hotel Investment Trends – India 2023,’ highlighting India’s robust growth in the hospitality sector. The first quarter of 2024 marked a significant upsurge with hotel transaction volumes hitting USD 78 million, an 80 per cent increase year-on-year.

In 2023, the sector saw monumental progress with USD 401 million invested, nearly quadrupling from the previous year. According to the report, a notable 25 per cent of this investment was in under-construction hotels across business and leisure destinations.

Additionally, 2023 witnessed a record 22 hotel transactions, the highest in a decade, with three hotel companies debuting successfully on the stock market via IPOs.

High Net Worth Individuals (HNIs) and institutional capital dominated investments in 2023, constituting 31 per cent, followed by real estate developers at 27 per cent, and owner-operators at 11 per cent. The upper upscale hotel segment saw the most significant activity, followed by upscale, luxury, and midscale segments. Notably, five transactions worth USD 133 million were facilitated through the insolvency resolution process under the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

Jaideep Dang, Managing Director of JLL’s Hotels and Hospitality Group, India, expressed optimism for 2024, citing strong performance in hotel stocks and diverse growth avenues like expanding commercial office markets and new infrastructure developments.

Management contracts continued to dominate signings, accounting for 78 per cnet of total keys signed, while lease and revenue share models saw a rise, comprising 4 per cent of total signings. This growth trajectory is attributed to the sector’s enduring confidence in long-term potential, especially evident in Tier-2 city developments and emerging tourism hotspots.

Opposition parties utilizing natural calamities for LS polls: Sridhar Babu

Peddapalli: IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu found fault with opposition parties for politicizing farmers issues and utilizing natural calamities to gain benefit in parliament elections.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, the minister alleged that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was politicizing the issue for votes.

The State government was giving top priority to welfare of farmers, he said.

To ensure that there should not be power cuts, the state government was purchasing eight percent excess power than that of the electricity that was utilized in the months of February and March last year and supplying it to the people. Claiming that there were no power cuts in the State, the Minister said opposition parties were spreading wrong propaganda.

Adequate funds would be allocated in the full-fledged budget to be presented after parliament polls for the implementation of six guarantees promised before assembly elections by the Congress, he said.

"Should I Remain Chief Minister?" Siddaramaiah's Appeal For Lok Sabha Poll

'With Folded Hands', Siddaramaiah's Appeal Amid Leadership Change Buzz

Mysuru/Mandya:

Amid speculation about leadership change, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday asked the people of his Varuna Assembly segment to give the Congress candidate a lead of at least 60,000 votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha poll, to ensure that he remains in the post.

In Mandya, Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President DK Shivakumar, who has made no secret about his chief ministerial ambitions, told the people that the desire with which they supported the party in the Assembly poll in May last year, keeping him in mind, “will not turn out to be false.”

The statements gain significance amid persistent rumours about leadership change in the ruling Congress in the state after Lok Sabha poll or mid-way of the current Assembly’s tenure.

“In 2019 (Lok Sabha polls) Dhruvanarayan (Congress candidate) lost by a margin of only 1,817 votes…. This time in the Assembly you made me win by giving a lead of 48,000 votes (in Varuna). Will you give the same lead or more now? (Our candidate should win) with a lead of at least 60,000 votes,” Siddaramaiah said.

Addressing a public meeting, he said: “In Varuna you know me, as well as (HC) Mahadevappa (Minister). I’m your representative, (my son) Yathindra is a former MLA from here (Varuna). When we are all there, there should be a lead of at least 60,000 votes.”

“If you make (Congress candidate) victorious by a lead of 60,000 votes, I will be happy. No one will be able to touch me. Should I remain (as Chief Minister) or not? So I request you with folded hands…I will come back to thank you after winning,” he added.

Siddarmaiah’s Varuna Assembly segment comes under the Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency, from where Minister Mahadevappa’s son Sunil Bose is the Congress candidate.

Meanwhile, asking voters to support Congress in the Vokkaliga bastion of Mandya, Shivakumar said: “I want to tell you that, keeping me in mind, you gave more seats (in Assembly polls to Congress) in Mandya district. Your desire will not turn out to be false. You need not worry.” He said Congress has given tickets to eight Vokkaligas in the Lok Sabha polls.

Openly expressing his chief ministerial aspirations ahead of assembly polls, Shivakumar had asked the Vokkaliga community, to which he belongs, not to lose out an opportunity with him as the party’s state unit president while pointing out that SM Krishna was the last Vokkaliga to lead the party in the polls and then went on to become the Chief Minister in 1999.

There was stiff competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for the Chief Minister’s post after the Assembly election results in May last year, and the Congress had managed to convince the latter and made him the Deputy Chief Minister.

There were some reports at the time that a compromise had been reached based on a “rotational Chief Minister formula,” according to which Shivakumar will become Chief Minister after two-and-half years but they have not been officially confirmed by the party.

Former Minister Niranjan Reddy slams Congress for ignoring plight of farmers, to meet its political agenda

Hyderabad: Former Minister S Niranjan Reddy criticised the Congress-led government for neglecting the plight of farmers in the State and remaining a mere spectator as farmers are burning their drying crops due to inadequate irrigation facilities.

He accused the Ministers and other Congress leaders of shying away from confronting the harsh realities faced by farmers, instead of consoling them and coming to their rescue.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Niranjan Reddy stated that farmers who expected the Congress to provide more support than the BRS regime, are now disheartened over lack of adequate support.

He said despite having a provision to utilise about 4,000 cusecs of water which is being discharged downstream wastefully from Godavari River and diverting it to irrigate crops, the Congress government is intentionally ignoring it.

“The Congress leadership is hellbent on destroying the reputation of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao known for his farmer-friendly initiatives. But they are ignoring the plight of farmers to achieve this and indulging in rhetorics. They should prioritise farmers’ interests over political posturing,” the former Agriculture Minister demanded.

He said leaders who criticised BRS chief Chandrashekhar Rao during the Telangana statehood movement as well as those who worked in his Cabinet, were criticising him, to gain political mileage in the current Congress government.

Niranjan Reddy demanded that the State government provide a compensation for the crops lost by farmers and vosed that the BRS will continue its fight to ensure justice for farmers.

He criticised the Congress government’s failure to effectively manage water resources, alleging negligence in addressing farmers’ needs.

He underscored the pivotal role of effective leadership in mitigating agricultural challenges, citing former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s commitment to supporting farmers.

Harish Rao slams government over TET fee hike

He criticised the government’s decision to double the TET fees compared to Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), asserting that it is unfair to levy such high charges on candidates.

Harish Rao slams government over TET fee hike

Hyderabad: Former Minister and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao strongly opposed the significant hike in Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) fees, expressing concern over the burden it places on the government job aspirants.

He criticised the government’s decision to double the TET fees compared to Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), asserting that it is unfair to levy such high charges on candidates.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday, Harish Rao highlighted the detrimental impact of the fee hike on unemployed youth, particularly those from marginalised sections.

He said the government’s failure to provide fee concessions for SC and ST as well as differently-abled students, is unacceptable, considering their financial constraints.

He urged the State government to reconsider the fee hike, pointing out that other States as well as the Centre offer fee concessions for reserved category candidates and lack of such provisions is violation of the constitutional principles.

Drawing the State government’s attention to the ongoing protests by B.Ed. and D.Ed. candidates for fee concession, the former Minister questioned the government’s indifference to their demands.

“Notwithstanding the number of papers attempted only Rs 400 was collected towards TET fee under the previous BRS rule. But the Congress government is now collecting Rs 1,000 for one paper and Rs 2,000 for two papers which is double the fee collected for CTET,” he added.

He also asked whether the current state of affairs aligned with the State government’s much-hyped ‘Indiramma Rajyam’ and ‘Praja Palana’ slogans.

BRS lost Assembly polls due to failure in effective communication, says KTR

While the BRS had focused on development and welfare politics, the Congress had focused on propaganda politics.

BRS lost Assembly polls due to failure in effective communication, says KTR

Nalgonda: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said on Monday that the party had lost the Assembly elections due to its failure to effectively communicate to the people its achievements in development of the State and the welfare measures it had initiated.

While the BRS had focused on development and welfare politics, the Congress had focused on propaganda politics.

Participating in the Nalgonda parliamentary constituency preparatory meeting in Nalgonda on Monday, Rama Rao said despite significant efforts, including recruitment of 1.6 lakh government jobs and a 73 percent salary hike for employees, the BRS could not effectively explain it to the voters, especially students.

He criticised the false claims of the Congress, particularly Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, of providing 30,000 jobs though the Congress government did not issue any notification, but took credit for recruitment done during the BRS rule.

Highlighting the transformative initiatives undertaken by the previous K Chandrashekhar Rao government, the BRS working president emphasised the unprecedented support extended to farmers, including the remarkable growth in rice production, which positioned Nalgonda at the forefront.

He reminded that the BRS government ended the fluorosis problem permanently and sanctioned three medical colleges to erstwhile Nalgonda district.

“The reason for our defeat in the Assembly elections is neither our leader KCR nor voters. It is our failure to effectively highlight these accomplishments which led to the electoral setback. Let us not repeat this mistake,” he said.

He said the trust among the voters on the new Congress government is rapidly eroding due to its failure to fulfill promises, especially those related to crop loan waivers and agricultural support schemes.

He urged the minorities to realise that a vote for the Congress in Telangana, is nothing but vote for the BJP as Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his supporters would defect to the BJP after the Lok Sabha polls.

Siddipet: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has asked the BRS president K Chandrashekhar and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bandi Sanjay to join hands with the Congress government in Telangana to get funds from the Centre.

Speaking to news reporters in Kohed on Monday, the BC Welfare Minister alleged that Chandrashekhar Rao was trying to mislead the people during his visit to agriculture fields in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Jangaon districts on Sunday.

He said the State had not received enough rain during the last monsoon season when the BRS was in power. Accusing Chandrashekhar Rao of attributing the drought to the Congress government, he said Sanjay was also making statements that he will sleep at paddy procurement centres.

He said Sanjay did not know that the procurement centres were yet to be opened.

Sanjay should pursue the Centre to grant funds to Telangana to compensate the farmers here, he said, adding that the Congress government was ready to give Rs.20,000 if the centre released an equal share.
