Crazy behavior of Zionists because of desperation: Gen Sharif

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Brigadier General Ramazan Sharif, head of the Intifada and Quds Central Headquarters said, “The failure of the Israel regime in advancing its goals during the past 6 months shows that the situation of this regime will not return to days before the Al-Aqsa storm operation.”

“In the past few days, we witnessed the presence of thousands of people in London who expressed support for the oppressed Palestinian people and asked their rulers to reconsider their support for the Zionist regime,” he said.

This year, Quds Day will be truly an international day thanks to the endurance, steadfastness, courage and resourcefulness of Resistance forces, especially the fighters of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, who fights agaisnt Zionists, General Sharif said.

Today, the analysts announced that Gaza cannot be destroyed, he also said, adding that the crazy behavior of Zionists is not because of power, but because of desperation.

“We hope that God will soon bring about the victory of the Palestinians and we will witness more humiliation of the Zionists,” he added.

Musk’s Tesla overtakes Mercedes-Benz as 2nd largest seller of imported cars in March

Seoul: Elon Musk-run Tesla overtook Mercedes-Benz as the second-largest seller of imported vehicles in South Korea last month, industry data showed on Wednesday.

The number of newly registered imported cars came to 25,263 units in March, up 6 per cent from 23,840 units a year ago, the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association said in a statement.

Of those, BMW accounted for 6,549 units, followed by Tesla and Mercedes-Benz, with 6,025 units and 4,197 units, respectively, reports Yonhap News Agency.

It marked the first time for Tesla to beat Mercedes-Benz in South Korea in terms of sales. Lexus and Volvo came in fourth and fifth, selling 1,218 units and 1,081 units, respectively.

Industry watchers attributed Tesla’s strong advance in sales to the confirmation of government EV subsidies last month. Also, Mercedes-Benz saw a significant decrease in registrations due to delivery delays caused by political tensions in the Middle East.

In terms of individual models, Tesla’s Model Y was the bestselling car, selling 5,934 units, followed by the BMW 5 and the Lexus ES, with 2,259 units and 822 units, respectively.

Meanwhile, Tesla has released its first quarter (Q1) of 2024 delivery and production results.

In Q1, the company said it produced over 433,000 vehicles and delivered approximately 387,000 vehicles. It deployed 4,053 MWh (megawatt-hour) of energy storage products in the first quarter, the highest quarterly deployment yet.

Pakistan determined to complete Iran gas pipeline project

The government of Pakistan appears determined to finish a multibillion dollar gas transmission project with Iran, despite stiff opposition from the US.

Petroleum Minister of Pakistan Musadik Malik stated that Islamabad urgently needs the gas transfer project with Iran and intends to pursue exemptions from US sanctions by presenting both technical and political justifications for the project’s completion.

During a congressional hearing in Washington last week, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu was explicit in his declaration that Washington opposes the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and is making concerted efforts to thwart its construction.

Experts believe that Islamabad’s stance on the gas transfer project with Iran is not merely a matter of preference, but rather a necessity given the current circumstances.

We have to look into things a little deeply. Turkey and Iraq are currently purchasing Iranian gas, yet they are not under US sanctions.

We have to see what mechanism they are using, Turkey, Iraq and the Iranian governments, so that we can adopt the same mechanism to avoid any sanctions from the United States because we have to provide energy for our people. They need cheap energy.

Anwar Abbas, Energy Expert

Iran has granted Pakistan a 180-day extension of the deadline until September 2024.

If Islamabad fails to provide a favorable response by then, Iran will be obliged to initiate arbitration proceedings at the Paris-based ICC International Court of Arbitration, seeking damages totaling 18 billion US dollars.

Iran has already invested 2 billion US dollars in the pipeline, known as the Peace Pipeline, on its side of the border.

Iran has completed 95 to 96% of the work on the gas pipeline.

The pertinent ministries from both countries are engaged in talks for the completion of this vital project.

We have been waiting for Pakistan’s response since 2009.

We hope that the ministries from both sides will show their seriousness and will complete it without any further delay whatsoever.

Reza Amiri Moghadam, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan

Tehran has proposed cooperation not only in the field of energy, but also in fostering barter trade and enhancing economic relations with Pakistan.

Despite the significant potential benefits, the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has encountered formidable challenges due to American opposition and threats of sanctions.

Pakistan stresses that the project represents a strategic economic partnership with Iran and that it will press ahead to complete the much needed project regardless of the challenges.

Global condemnation pours in over terrorist Israeli attack on Iranian consulate

Global condemnation of Israel’s attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria surges as the UN Security Council has held an emergency meeting over the deadly strike.

The UNSC session was held at the request of Russia on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the deadly Israeli aggression on the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus on April 1.

Israeli warplanes bombed the diplomatic building, killing seven military advisors of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, and his deputy General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi were among the martyrs of the terrorist attack.

‘Inviolability of diplomatic premises’

Khaled Khiari, assistant secretary general for the Middle East at the UN, said in his address that the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel must be respected in all cases and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states must be respected under international law.

“The rules-based international order is essential for international peace and security, which this Council is mandated to maintain,” Khiari said.

“Any miscalculation could lead to broader conflict in an already volatile region, with devastating consequences for civilians who are already seeing unprecedented suffering in Syria, Lebanon, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and the broader Middle East,” he added.

Khiari appealed to the Council to continue to actively engage all concerned parties to prevent further escalation, reiterating UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ calls on all concerned parties to exercise utmost restraint and avoid further escalation.

Russia: Israel attack designed to further fuel conflict

Vassily Nebenzia, the Russian ambassador to the United Nations, condemned Israel’s incessant missile and bomb attacks targeting Syria.

“On 1 April, the Israeli air forces struck Iran’s consulate in Damascus, leveling the building to the ground.  Any attack on diplomatic and consular premises violates the 1961 and 1963 Vienna Convention,” Nebenzia said.

Drawing particular attention to the fact that it was not the first attack carried out by Israel in the densely-populated area of Damascus, he said, “In the past few months alone, Israeli aircraft have attacked the international airports in Damascus and Aleppo — the main gateways for the entry of humanitarian aid into Syria — several times.”

Denouncing the ongoing raids on the sovereign territory of Syria, Nebenzia said such aggressive actions are designed to further fuel the conflict and might have extremely dangerous consequences for the entire region.

Calling on the international community to condemn Israel’s reckless actions, he said, “If we don’t reaffirm this position of solidarity, next time, the diplomatic mission by any State can be targeted by an air raid.”

China: Israel’s attack breach of sovereignty of both Syria, Iran

The Chinese representative denounced Israel’s airstrikes on the Iranian diplomatic premises in Syria as “a grave violation of the UN Charter and international law” and “a breach of the sovereignty of both Syria and Iran.”

The envoy stressed that in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and the universally recognized basic norms governing international relations, the safety and security of diplomatic missions is inviolable.

“The red line of international law and the basic norms of international relations has been breached time and again,” he said, adding that such a situation must stop immediately.

Recalling that 25 years ago, China’s Embassy in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was bombed by a United States-led North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) airstrike, which resulted in personnel casualties and damage to the Embassy, the envoy offered sympathy and condolences to the government of Iran and its people over the deadly aggression.

Cowardly terrorist attack

At the beginning of the emergency meeting, Iran’s Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Zahra Ershadi delivered a strongly-worded statement before the Security Council condemning the Israeli regime’s targeting of Iranian diplomatic premises in the Syrian capital.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns these horrific crimes and cowardly terrorist attacks. The Israeli regime committed a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” Ershadi said.

“The crime committed by the Israeli regime goes beyond mere criminality; it represents a profound affront to the shared principle of the international community, namely, the inviolability of representatives and diplomatic and consular premises,” she added.

Ershadi called on the Security Council to vehemently condemn the Israeli regime’s terrorist attack as the grave repercussions of its reprehensible act could escalate tensions in the region and potentially spark further conflict involving other nations.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has exercised considerable restraint, but it is imperative to acknowledge that there are limits to such forbearance,” Ershadi said.

“The occupying regime must bear full responsibility for its consequences. Iran reserves its legitimate and inherent right under international law and the United Nations Charter to take a decisive response to such reprehensible acts.”

Underlining that the Security Council must promptly fulfill its duty in response to Israel’s reckless defiance, Ershadi said it is high time for the 15-member UN body to shoulder its responsibility and address the real threat to international peace and security.

Algeria: Israeli strike cannot be justified or tolerated

The representative of Algeria said such a grave breach of international obligation by the Israeli occupation cannot be justified or tolerated, warning that this could lead to escalating tensions and wider regional consequences.

The envoy said the timing of these attacks — in the face of international pressure for a ceasefire in Gaza through Council resolution 2728 (2024) — indicates a deliberate disregard for the international community’s call for a cessation of hostilities.

“The Council must respond firmly and decisively to these threats to fundamental principles of State sovereignty, diplomatic sanctity and respect for territorial integrity,” he said.

“The integrity of our international order hangs in the balance,” he added, stressing that the choice is either to uphold the principle of the UN Charter or risk plunging into chaos and regional spillover.

Switzerland: Diplomatic buildings must not be targeted

The Swiss representative at the UN condemned the airstrike against the Iranian consulate in Damascus, stating that the spiral of escalation must stop immediately.

“All channels of communication must be used to avoid any misunderstandings as a single miscalculation can have disastrous consequences,” he said.

“A further deterioration in the situation must be avoided, and any use of force must strictly comply with international law,” he added. “Given the current climate, the proper conduct of diplomatic activity is of utmost importance. diplomatic buildings must not be targeted.”

S Korea warns of spillover of tension to other regional countries

The representative of the Republic of Korea said that, amid the high tensions and the lack of implementation of resolution 2728 (2024), seeing another incident in a neighboring country is “very concerning.”

He warned that such incidents have the potential to spill over into Lebanon.

“History tells us that an unexpected event could expand into irrecoverable tragedies,” the envoy cautioned, expressing concern that additional violent flashpoints could escalate into new tragedies in the region.

Japan urges restraint

The representative of Japan said her country is monitoring with deep concern the situation following the reported airstrikes against Iranian diplomatic premises in Damascus.

“The current volatile situation in the Middle East, in which any additional conflicts could lead to a wider escalation and confrontation, is worrisome,” she said.

The Japanese envoy called on all relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint and not to engage in any further destabilizing actions.

Ecuador calls respect for diplomatic missions

The representative of Ecuador condemned all attacks carried out against diplomatic and consular missions and representatives.

Rejecting such acts of violence, regardless of origin, he said that the attack on the Iranian diplomatic premises runs counter to principles enshrined in international law, has cost the lives of civilians and has destroyed civilian infrastructure.

“Nothing justifies these types of attacks,” he said, calling on all states to respect the inviolability of diplomatic and consular offices.  These acts must be duly investigated and perpetrators brought to justice, he added.

US, UK, France stop short of condemning Israeli attack

The US representative at the UN declined to condemn the Israeli aggression and claimed that his country had no involvement in the regime’s strike in Syria, nor did it know about the assault.

“Iran and its proxy and partner groups need to avoid escalating tensions in the region,” he said, apparently shifting the blame without condemning the attack.

“Washington, D.C., does not have confirmation of the status of the building that was struck in Damascus,” he added. “Any confirmed attack on a diplomatic facility would be of concern to the United States.”

The representative of the United Kingdom underlined the importance of respect for the inviolability of diplomatic premises and protection of diplomatic and consular staff for the proper conduct of diplomatic relations.

The UK envoy said Iran must cease its support for resistance groups in the region and use its influence to prevent their attacks.

The French representative also said the strikes in Damascus have taken place in the context of heightened tensions in Syria and the region.

The envoy said the international community must do everything possible to ease tensions and called on all actors to show restraint and prevent regional spillover.

Taking the floor a second time, the representative of the Russian Federation criticized the Western troika in the Council for cynicism and double standards.

“The representative of France said everything except for a single word of condemnation for yet another violation of international law by Israel,” Nebenzia said.

“The United States always possesses information on any topic firsthand thanks to its intelligence capabilities. But surprisingly, Washington, D.C., has no confirmation regarding the attack against the consulate of Iran,” he added. “The United Kingdom and the United States almost directly accused Iran and Syria for the Israeli strikes on the Iranian consulate.”

The 2022 champions are playing under the leadership of young batter Shubman Gill after their original skipper Hardik Pandya move to Mumbai Indians. So far, GT have played three matches and won two of them. Their only defeat came against Chennai Super Kings, where they lost the game by 63 runs. However, in their previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gill and co registered a comfortable seven-wicket win in Ahmedabad.

Despite playing only two seasons in the IPL, GT have gathered a large fan base all over the world. A perfect example of their fandom was witnessed in a video, which is now going viral on social media.

The viral footage is believed to be from the match against SRH, where a young fan was seen merrily cheering for GT by jumping on the seat. He got so excited that he ended he removing his t-shirt and throwing it away while dancing.

The netizens quickly compared his celebration to a viral meme from a football match, where a fan was seen excitedly dancing while cheering for his team.

Talking about the match, veteran seamer Mohit Sharma was at his deceptive best in the last over for his splendid figures of 3/25, while Afghan spin twins Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad bossed the middle overs as GT restricted the marauding SRH to a modest 162/8 after Pat Cummins opted to bat.

South African batter David Miller found his flair in his 44 not out from 27 balls to anchor the small chase despite suffering cramps and finished the game with a six off Jaydev Unadkat in the first ball of the final over.

Sai Sudharsan also lifted his game, top-scoring for GT with his 45 from 36 balls as GT won with five balls to spare.

GT will now be squaring off against Punjab Kings in their next IPL 2024 match on Thursday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Kolkata building collapse death toll rises to 13 as man succumbs to injuries

Kolkata: The death toll in the collapse of an under-construction five-storey building at Garden Reach area in Kolkata on March 17 has reached 13, as one more person succumbed to injuries.

The man, identified as Mainul Haque, was under treatment at a city hospital and died late Tuesday night.

After being recovered from under the debris of the collapsed building he had been rushed to a local hospital. Later he was shifted to the state-run S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital.

Trinamool Congress-run Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) came under scathing criticism from different corners after the collapse.

Questions were raised on how the promoter of the said building got permission for raising a five-storey construction in that dingy lane of Garden Reach, which is adjacent to the Kolkata dock area. The promoter of the said building was also arrested.

There were severe differences between the city mayor Firhad Hakim and the deputy mayor Atin Ghosh over the development. As the mayor said that identifying illegal constructions was not the responsibility of KMC or the local councillor, the deputy mayor said the corporation under no circumstance can avoid the responsibility on this count.

The KMC later formed a seven-member probe panel on the building collapse.

Video Shows California Police Shooting Teen They Were Supposed To Rescue

Radio traffic apparently from the helicopter warns officers that Savannah is there.

Los Angeles, United States:

Newly released video shows US police shooting dead a kidnapped teenage girl they had been tasked with rescuing, in a chaotic incident on a busy California highway.

Savannah Graziano, 15, was gunned down as one deputy called her away from her gun-toting father, who had killed her mother a day earlier and abducted his daughter.

The episode unfolded in September 2022 when officers in San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles, began chasing the vehicle Anthony Graziano was driving with Savannah in the passenger seat.

Footage filmed by a California Highway Patrol helicopter and released on Friday shows the pickup truck racing along at upwards of 110 miles (175 kilometers) an hour, with multiple shots fired at officers from inside Graziano’s vehicle.

The chase ended after Graziano went the wrong way up a freeway entrance ramp and came to a halt on scrubland, surrounded by police vehicles.

Footage released Friday shows Savannah getting out of the car and walking towards an officer, who can be heard on another recording calling her over.

Radio traffic apparently from the helicopter warns officers that Savannah is there.

“The girl’s out. The girl’s out. Alright, girl’s out, guys. The female… is out. She’s out on the passenger side,” a male voice says.

The footage shows Savannah crouching on the ground for several seconds before getting up and walking towards a group of police officers.

An apparent gunshot is heard on the video and Savannah is then blurred out as the voice on the radio says “Oh no.”

Audio captured by a microphone worn by an officer on the ground records him calling Savannah over.

“Come to me! Come, come, come… walk, walk, walk,” he says, as heavy gunfire rings out.

“Hey! Stop! Stop shooting her,” he tells his colleagues. “He’s in the car!”

A number of shots can be heard after this utterance.

The narration on the video, which was released by San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner, describes this moment.

“You can hear him calling her over and telling other deputies that the person who exited the truck was the passenger and for them to stop firing, but it was too late.”

The teenager was declared dead in a local hospital.

Her father was pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple weapons and items of body armor were found in the pickup, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition, police said.

The names of officers involved have not been released.

The incident is being investigated by California’s Department of Justice (DOJ).

San Bernardino Sheriff Shannon Dicus said Tuesday his department had been transparent in the aftermath of the incident.

“My hope is that this video will be watched in its entirety and provide insight into the unfortunate events that unfolded that day,” he said.

“I would ask the public to allow the DOJ to complete its independent investigation before reaching a conclusion.”

The video was released just weeks after deputies from the same sheriff’s department shot dead a 15-year-old autistic boy who was having a mental health episode.

Both incidents have highlighted police use of force.

Violent encounters involving the public and police are not uncommon in the United States.

A tally by the Washington Post newspaper shows more than 1,100 people have been shot dead by officers nationwide in the last 12 months.

The figures are not official as police departments are not required to report incidents to the federal government.

Firearms claim tens of thousands of lives every year in the United States, a country where there are more guns than people.

Delhi BJP Sues AAP's Atishi After She Claimed Offer To Switch Over

Atishi has claimed that the BJP offered her to switch over

New Delhi:

The Delhi unit of BJP has sent a defamation notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and minister Atishi after she alleged that the BJP approached her with a request to switch over. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva told the media today that they have sent the notice and demanded a public apology from Ms Atishi.

“Atishi failed to provide evidence of who approached her, how and when. The AAP is undergoing a crisis in Delhi, which is why they are making such baseless allegations out of frustration. But we will not let her get away with this,” he said.

In a press meet yesterday, Ms Atishi said, “The BJP has approached me through someone very close. They have asked me to join the BJP and said this will save my political career. They have threatened that if I don’t switch over, ED (Enforcement Directorate) will arrest me within a month.”

She also claimed that she and three other AAP leaders — Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP MP Raghav Chadha and party MLA Durgesh Pathak — may be arrested over the next couple of months.

She said the person who approached her on behalf of the BJP had said the ruling party had “made up its mind on crushing everyone in AAP”.

“First, they put everyone in AAP’s leadership in jail. Satyendra Jain, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and now Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have been arrested. The BJP’s plan is to arrest four more AAP leaders in the next two months. They will arrest me, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Durgesh Pathak and Raghav Chadha,” she said. Sanjay Singh has been granted bail and will be released today.

Mr Sachdeva today dared the Delhi minister to submit her phone to an investigation agency to prove her claims.

The Delhi BJP’s lawyer said the party has sent a defamation notice to Atishi to withdraw her statement, which he termed “false, defamatory, and concocted”. If she cannot prove her claim, they will take more legal steps, the lawyer said.

Over 10 million Pakistanis may fall below poverty line: World Bank

The WB report also highlighted that Pakistan is expected to miss its primary budget target as well, which would keep Islamabad in deficit for at least three more years.

Over 10 million Pakistanis may fall below poverty line: World Bank

Islamabad: The World Bank has cautioned that over 10 million Pakistanis may fall below the poverty line, mainly due to a slothful economic growth rate and spiraling inflation at a staggering 26 per cent for the current fiscal year.

The World Bank’s bi-annual report titled ‘Pakistan Development Outlook’ sketched out a very grim picture of the country’s economy, giving indications that it is poised to fall short of meeting any of its major macroeconomic targets.

The WB report also highlighted that Pakistan is expected to miss its primary budget target as well, which would keep Islamabad in deficit for at least three more years.

“Despite a broad-based yet nascent economic recovery, poverty alleviation efforts remain insufficient,” said Sayed Murtaza Muzaffari, lead author of the WB report.

“Economic growth is projected to stagnate at a paltry 1.8 per cent maintaining the poverty rate at around 40 per cent with approximately 98 million Pakistanis already grappling with poverty. The vulnerability of those hovering just above the poverty line, with 10 million individuals at risk of slipping into poverty in the face of shocks,” he added.

The WB report also warns that the persistent rise in inflation and cost-of-living crisis coupled with high transportation costs had the potential to trigger an increase in out-of-school children and delayed medical treatments, while food security remains a serious and major challenge in the country.

“Poverty reduction is projected to stall in the medium term due to weak growth, low real labor incomes, and persistently high inflation,” stated the WB report.

“Chronic inflation in the absence of substantial growth, along with policy uncertainty, could cause social discontent and have negative welfare impacts,” the report added.

As far as Pakistan’s economic growth is concerned, WB report stated that Islamabad’s growth is expected to grow by only 1.8 per cent during the current fiscal year ending June 2024, while the official target is 3.5 per cent.

Moreover, growth during the next fiscal year is also expected to be at only 2.3 per cent, which is even lower than the population growth rate of 2.6 per cent.

“The subdued recovery reflects right monetary and fiscal policy, continued import management measures aimed at preserving scarce foreign reserves, and muted economic activity amid weak confidence,” stated the WB report.

All the above-mentioned and many more such indicators on circular debts, inflation and GDP growth show a very grim and weak picture of Pakistan’s economy and its growth forecasts for at least three years or more, giving no hopes to the locals, who are fast falling under the poverty line every day.

Japan’s imperial family – the world’s oldest continuing monarchy, made an Instagram debut on Monday, hoping to reach out to younger people on social media. The Imperial Household Agency, a government agency in charge of the family’s affairs, shared 21 posts, which included formally staged photos and videos of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako carrying out royal duties at recent public appearances.

The verified account which goes by the username Kunaicho_jp currently has 6,03,000 followers. The account does not follow any other users and has so far not ventured into Instagram Stories. Also, users cannot comment on posts and can only press the “like” button. The images are currently limited to the family’s official duties and do not include private or candid moments. The agency said it was considering adding activities of other royal members.

The first photo published was of the imperial couple sitting on a sofa with their 22-year-old daughter Princess Aiko, all smiling as they marked New Year’s Day.

The Japanese monarchy has mythological origins stretching back more than two millennia, and any public criticism of the emperor remains taboo in the country. By joining social media, the institution hopes to spark interest among younger generations about what the imperial family does, an IHA spokesperson confirmed to AFP.

The Japanese imperial family’s social media debut comes 15 years after Britain’s royal family joined X, formerly Twitter, in 2009. “The [Japanese] were perhaps the last notable royal family not to fully engage the digital era,” said social media analyst Andrew Hughes.
