Harish ridicules CM Revanth Reddy’s promise to implement crop loan waiver by August 15

Harish Rao

Hyderabad: BRS senior leader and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao ridiculed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s assurance to implement crop loan waiver upto Rs 2 lakh by August 15, terming it as another attempt to deceive farmers and gain votes in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

He demanded Revanth Reddy to tender unconditional apologies to farmers for his previous electoral promise to implement crop loan waiver on December 9, during the Assembly polls.

In a strong counter to the Chief Minister’s statement, Harish Rao stated that Revanth Reddy made the announcement as he feared severe backlash from farmers in the wake of the BRS party waging a war against the Congress government in Telangana demanding for implementing the promises made to farmers of the State.

He demanded to know the fate of other electoral promises like Rs 15,000 per acre to farmers and Rs 12,000 per acre to agricultural labourers under Rythu Bharosa.

He also demanded clarification on the delay in providing monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to poor women under Mahalakshmi scheme and also increased social security pension of Rs 4,000 to the elderly citizens.

“The Congress government, which is not prepared to implement the promises given earlier, is making fresh promises again with the fear of losing the elections. But people of Telangana have lost faith in the party,” he said.

Iran FM criticizes UK's support for Israeli crimes in Gaza

“What good is it for the British government to provide this amount of irresponsible support [to Israel]?” Amir-Abdollahian asked British Foreign Secretary David Cameron during a phone conversation on Monday, Press TV reported.

It is strange that Britain is concerned about Iran’s response to Israel’s brutal attack on the Islamic Republic’s diplomatic premises in Damascus, but shows no concern about the thousands of tons of bombs dropped on Palestinian homes by the Tel Aviv regime over the past six months.

He emphasized that Iran’s retaliatory strikes against Israel, dubbed Operation True Promise, were carried out in line with the principle of legitimate self-defense as stipulated in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran does not welcome the escalation of tension in the region but if the Israeli regime is after adventurism, our next response will be immediate, stronger and more extensive,” the top Iranian diplomat emphasized.

Amir-Abdollahian said the operation against Israel aimed to punish the regime for its deadly attacks against the consular section of Iran’s embassy in Damascus on April 1, which killed Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers.

In response, on Saturday night, the IRGC targeted the Israeli-occupied territories with a barrage of drones and missiles. The retaliatory strikes inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories.

The extent of the damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories is yet to be specified.

However, informed sources told Press TV that all the hypersonic missiles used in Iran’s punitive strikes against Israel hit their targets after evading the regime’s air defense systems.

The British foreign minister, for his part, expressed concern over the escalation of tensions in the region after Iran’s retaliatory response to Israel.

Cameron said Iran’s military operation against Israel was very worrying and will heighten tension in the region.

However, he added, Britain will at the same time ask Israel not to take any action in response because it will deteriorate the situation.

Iran FM criticizes UK's support for Israeli crimes in Gaza

Israel’s war crimes, genocide, hybrid war in Gaza root causes of crisis in region

In a phone call with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg on Monday, Amir-Abdollahian said Israel’s war crimes, genocide and hybrid war in the Gaza Strip are the root causes of crisis in the region, according to the Press TV report.

He once again reiterated that Iran has never sought to escalate tensions in the region but the Israeli regime had apparently misinterpreted Tehran’s restraint.

The Austrian foreign minister, for his part, said the continuation of conflicts would harm all the countries in the region.

Schallenberg emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and added that more diplomatic consultations and talks are necessary to solve the crisis in the Strip.

Austria, along with the European Union, has condemned Israel’s attacks on Iran’s diplomatic facilities in Damascus, he noted.

Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza began on October 7 in the aftermath of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas’s Operation Al-Aqsa Storm. It has so far killed at least 33,797 people, mostly children and women, and wounded 76,465 others with thousands more presumed dead under the rubble.

'Spends Summers In London': GN Azad's 'Tourist' Jibe At Omar Abdullah

'Spends Summers In London': Ghulam Nabi Azad's 'Tourist' Jibe At Omar Abdullah

Doda:

Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) president Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday alleged that former chief minister Omar Abdullah comes to the valley only as a “tourist,” while he spends summers in London and winters in warmer climates abroad.

Mr Azad made the sally as he hit the campaign trail in Doda as a star campaigner, canvassing for party candidate and former minister G M Saroori.

The campaigning in Udhampur-Kathua Lok Sabha constituency has become intense with the exchange of personal attacks by rival politicians.

Congress’s Lal Singh is pitted against Union minister and BJP candidate Jitendra Singh in the Udhampur-Kathua parliamentary constituency, which goes to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election on April 19.

DPAP’s G M Saroori is among 10 others in the fray.

“Omar sahib … You visit your maternal grandfather’s house during summers in London and some hot country during winters and you come here as a tourist,” Mr Azad took a dig at the National Conference vice president in his speech.

Omar Abdullah is also on a campaign trail in Doda district canvassing for Choudhary Lal Singh of Congress, in capacity as a partner in the INDIA bloc.

Lal Singh is contesting for the fourth time from Udhampur Lok Sabha seat.

Mr Azad alleged that Mr Omar used to visit Chenab Valley for five minutes and hasn’t come to the area even once in the last several years.

“Have you seen his face in Doda, Bhaderwah or Kishtwar during his tenure as CM? Has he been here for the last 10 years?” Mr Azad said, addressing the public.

He also questioned the whereabouts of “political tourists” during the region’s years of hardship and criticised the parties for their silence on issues like land eviction order and the abolition of Article 370.

He accused the NC of tacitly supporting the BJP’s agenda for its own interests, over the welfare of the people.

“Where were these political tourists in Chenab Valley during these ten years of people’s suffering? Did they raise their voices against land eviction or Article 370 in Parliament?

“They seem to be aiding the BJP in every action. Their leaders are too busy appeasing the BJP, just check their statements. They are the ones who declared their doors open for NDA, not me. So who’s the BJP’s A team? It’s NC,” Mr Azad said.

The former Congress leader said that despite such restrictions as the Public Safety Act, Omar Abdullah and “his cohorts” have continued to live luxuriously.

Mr Azad, who is also a former J-K chief minister, said that unlike some, he does not indulge in leisurely vacations and is committed to the alleviation of the suffering of the people.

Mr Azad questioned the Congress party’s stance on Article 370 and said he always advocated for Article 370 and 35A, as well as the restoration of statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that instead of confronting the BJP, the Congress seems to focus on targeting his party.

“Congress is silent on Article 370, they didn’t even speak when I was in Congress. Only I know how I managed to speak on Article 370 in parliament,” he said.
