"Bhaiya…": Pant's Emotional Message For Shah Rukh After IPL Meeting

Rishabh Pant has made steady gain since returning to action after recovering from injury sustained due to a car crash. In what has been a bad start to the season for Delhi Capitals, their captain Rishabh Pant’s form has been a silver lining for the team. Slowly but steadily Pant is returning to form. He struck a well-crafted 55 against KKR on Wednesday, his second half-century of the IPL 2024. After the match, he met KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan and posted an image of the meeting with an emotional message.

“Always good to see you Bhaiya so warm as always,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

Former England skipper Eoin Morgan opened up on Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant’s scintillating 55-run mark against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and said that the wicketkeeper-batter is looking good currently after returning from injury. Rishabh made his return to competitive cricket during this edition of the IPL after surviving a life-threatening car accident back in December 2022. Though his comeback inning against Punjab Kings was a disappointing one of just 18 runs, Pant has shown improvement in his next inning. During the match against KKR, Pant registered back-to-back half-centuries, scoring 55 in 25 balls, with four boundaries and five sixes.

While speaking to JioCinema, Morgan said that he and others can’t believe Pant’s progress in the game after suffering injuries from a car accident.

The former cricketer added that the DC skipper needs a bit of help from his teammates like Mitchell Marsh, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw.

“Rishabh Pant is certainly looking good and a lot of people, including myself, can’t believe his progress both physically, mentally and his performance on the field. There is one thing getting your own body and mind right, there is another thing delivering on the field. He is leading his team and he is actually leading quite well. He needs a little bit of help alongside it. He needs to find more out of the likes of Mitchell Marsh, more runs from David Warner and a lot more from Prithvi Shaw,” Morgan told JioCinema.

He is the fourth-highest run-getter in the league so far, having made 152 runs in four matches at an average of 38.00 and a strike rate of over 158. His best score is 55 and he has scored two fifties so far.

Summarizing the match, KKR’s target of 273 turned out to be too much for DC as they gave in to pressure and ended up suffering a 106-run defeat.

The pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora bagged two wickets each to reduce DC to 33/4 in the powerplay.

These early blows derailed DC’s approach to chasing down the massive total which got more challenging with each delivery.

Eventually, the required rate turned out to be too much as they ended up suffering a 106-run defeat.

Hamas: Netanyahu keeps obstructing ceasefire agreement

The Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas says the Israeli regime’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu keeps stonewalling a potential agreement that could end the regime’s ongoing genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.

Hamas’ senior representative in Lebanon, Osama Hamdan made the remarks during a press conference in Beirut on Thursday.

“Netanyahu continues to obstruct reaching an agreement, showing no interest in releasing the Israeli prisoners,” he said.

Israel launched the war on October 7 last year following al-Aqsa Storm, a surprise operation by Gaza’s resistance movements against the occupied territories, during which hundreds were taken captive. More than 33,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the brutal military onslaught so far.

By the end of a six-day truce on November 30, 105 captives had been released by Hamas and 240 Palestinian prisoners had been freed by the Israeli regime.

Israel believes 130 captives still remain in Gaza, while there are roughly 7,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, many of whom have been detained without charge.

Hamdan went on to detail Tel Aviv’s dilatory tactics that have prevented conclusion of a ceasefire agreement.

“The occupation continues to prevaricate, making the negotiations go in circles, as the occupation still refuses our people and our legitimate resistance’s demands for a comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal from the Strip, the return of displaced persons, and a real prisoner exchange,” he said.

The Hamas’ official, however, asserted, “What the occupation has failed to achieve through killing, criminality, and genocide war, it will not succeed in achieving through prolonging negotiations.”

Hamdan, meanwhile, described the war as “the largest, most horrific, and longest heinous crime in modern history.”

He decried the international community’s “incapacity” in the face of the Israeli atrocities, which “serves as a green light for committing more massacres.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Palestinian official pointed to the Israeli military’s recent killing of seven aid workers serving the World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity in the central Gaza city of Deir al-Balah.

The atrocity further establishes that this regime is “rogue, detached from all humanitarian values,” he said.

Hamdan also lashed out at the regime over its recent terrorist attack on the consular section of Iran’s Embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus, which killed seven members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

The attack, he said, amounted to “a blatant violation of international law, an infringement on state sovereignty.”

“The US administration alone bears responsibility for its support and partnership with the occupation in these crimes, destabilizing the security and stability of the region, and its consequences,” the Hamas’ official noted.

Hamdan finally called for mass participation of the Palestinian people in International Quds Day rallies.

The day was so designated by Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic. It is marked annually across the world on the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. This year, the event falls on April 5.

Almost Impossible To Deliver Aid In Gaza, Say Top Charities

Almost Impossible To Deliver Aid In Gaza, Say Top Charities

Major international aid groups warned Thursday it was now almost impossible to work in Gaza.

Jerusalem:

Major international aid groups warned Thursday it was now almost impossible to work in Gaza, as one accused countries supplying arms to Israel of being complicit in what “amounts to genocide”.

Isabelle Defourny, president of Doctors Without Borders NGO, spoke out about the risk of genocide as 13 major humanitarian groups blasted Israel for restricting aid getting into the Gaza Strip.

The killing of seven aid workers from the US-based World Central Kitchen (WCK) by Israeli air strikes Monday has sparked an outcry.

US President Joe Biden said he was “outraged and heartbroken” by the attack.

But Defourny, president of MSF France, said the United States, Britain, France and other nations were “morally and politically complicit with what to our eyes amounts to genocide” by providing military support to Israel.

The aid groups also demanded that Israel abandon its plans to launch a ground offensive on Rafah in the south of Gaza, where well over one million civilians are sheltering.

The bloodiest ever Gaza war erupted with Hamas’s unprecedented October 7 attack which resulted in the deaths of about 1,170 Israelis and foreigners, most of them civilians,  according to an AFP tally of official Israeli figures.

Israel’s retaliatory campaign, aimed at destroying Hamas, has killed at least 33,037 people, mostly women and children, according to the Gaza health ministry.

– ‘Absolute horror’ –

While WCK has suspended its operations in Gaza, none of the 13 groups including Oxfam and Save the Children who made the joint call said they were pulling out.

Defourny, who said MSF had lost five of its 300 staff in Gaza, said the killing of the seven WCK employees was no surprise.

She said the “conditions today to deliver humanitarian assistance are not there (in Gaza).

“Because for the last six months we have witnessed the choices which Israel makes in waging war on an entire population, a population that is trapped, deprived of food and massively bombed.

“Gaza is progressively being made unfit for human life,” she added, it “has passed the threshold of absolute horror”.

Defourny said the International Court of Justice ordered “measures to prevent a genocide” in January and again last week.

But “Israel has so far done the exact opposite, continuing to block humanitarian aid and destroy vital civilian infrastructure as illustrated by the attack on WCK and the Al-Shifa hospital destruction”, she added.

Israel has fiercely pushed back against accusations it is blocking aid, alleging instead that humanitarian groups have failed to distribute it.

In war-torn Gaza, where vast areas have been reduced to rubble, 2.4 million Palestinians have been under bombardment for six months while enduring dire shortages of food, water, fuel and other basic supplies.

After the ICJ’s January ruling, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the charge against Israel “is not only false, it’s outrageous, and decent people everywhere should reject it”.

– ‘War against civilians’ –

The charity Oxfam said that people in starving northern Gaza have been forced to survive on an average of 245 calories a day — less than a can of beans, and a fraction of the recommended average daily 2,100 calorie intake per person.

Scott Paul of Oxfam said almost half of people in the north are actually “living on less”.

“Is it any wonder that there is either an imminent famine or a famine that is actually taking place” there, he added.

The charities called for an immediate ceasefire, saying Israel and the countries supplying it with arms “have the obligation (in international law) to protect populations from atrocity crimes”.

Doctor Tanya Haj-Hassan, an American paediatric intensive care doctor, who has been working in Gaza hospitals, said “everybody’s a target” in Gaza.

“Evidence on the ground does not suggest that this is a war against Hamas, but a war against civilians.

“When you are in the operating theatre, you do not see Hamas, you see entire families wiped off the civil registry.

“I saw (in theatre) direct sniper shooting of children in the head and elderly people.”

She said she noticed a “consistent pattern of targeting particular groups (by Israeli forces) — health care workers, press and humanitarian aid workers.”

US Man Executed For Killing Indian And Another Person In Oklahoma In 2002

Houston:

A 41-year-old man convicted of shooting and killing two people, including an Indian, in the US state of Oklahoma in 2002 was executed on Thursday.

Michael Dewayne Smith was executed by lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in the McAlester town, television station KOCO-TV reported.

Smith had been on death row for the murders of 24-year-old Indian store clerk Sharath Pulluru and 40-year-old Janet Moore in separate incidents on February 22, 2002.

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond released a statement on Smith’s execution, saying, “I pray that today brings some measure of peace for the families of Janet Miller-Moore and Sharath Pulluru. It has been a long and difficult 22 years for their loved ones, and my heart aches over the agony they have endured.” “I want the people of Oklahoma to know that the victims of Michael Smith were good and decent people who did not deserve their fate,” Drummond said.

“Sharath, a bright young man with a generous spirit, was the first in his family to come to the United States to pursue an education. He was fun to be around, was an inspiration to his family, and had a promising future,” he said.

He added that the two were murdered because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. “That was all. I am grateful that justice has been served,” he said.

Last month, Sharath Pulluru’s brother, Harish Pulluru, released a statement demanding the denial of Smith’s clemency.

“Sharath was a wonderful person, he was the first in our family to come to the United States in our family. He is the reason I became a doctor. When he first came to the United States I would wait in a phone booth in India for him to call and cherished every conversation we had,” KFOR television channel had reported, citing the statement.

“I saw the pain that my parents lived with every day. Sharath was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He was the life of our family. We are a very close family and his sudden death in such a violent manner has affected our lives every day since. We ask that clemency be denied,” Harish said.

Before his execution, Smith said in a statement: “My life is on the line. Despite new evidence, my attorney Mark Henricksen has informed my family that he will be filing no further appeals on my behalf. I am releasing this statement to demand that Mr Henricksen do his job and fight for my life.”

Further investigation in the matter is underway, say cops (Representational)

Gurugram:

A two-year-old child died after falling into a manhole in the Sector 37 area, with his father alleging that the authorities had left it open, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place in Sihi village on Wednesday evening when Pradeep Kumar was playing near the tea stall of his father Bhagat Kumar, SHO Satyawan said.

“My son was playing near my tea stall and fell into the manhole. When we started searching for him, he was found lying in the sewer,” Mr Kumar said in his complaint.

“The police team was called, who pulled my son out from the sewer and rushed him to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead,” he added.

Mr Kumar alleged that his son died due to the authorities’ negligence, the SHO said. “My son died due to negligence of the department concerned,” he said in the complaint.

Mr Kumar, a native of Nepal has been living in the village with his family from the past two years and runs a tea stall, according to the SHO.

Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered under the Indian Penal Code Section 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigating), and 304A (causing death by negligence) against unknown persons at the Sector 37 police station on Thursday, the SHO said.

The body was handed over to the boy’s family after postmortem and further investigation in the matter is underway, he added.

US Support Depends On Gaza Civilian Protection: Biden Warns Netanyahu

US Support Depends On Gaza Civilian Protection: Biden Warns Netanyahu

During phone call with Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza.

Washington:

President Joe Biden warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Thursday that US policy on Israel depends on the protection of civilians in Gaza, in his strongest hint yet of possible conditions on military aid after an Israeli strike killed seven aid workers.

In their first call since the deaths of the employees of the US-based World Central Kitchen group on Monday, Biden also called for an “immediate ceasefire” after the “unacceptable” attack and wider humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Democrat Biden is facing growing pressure in an election year over his support for Israel’s Gaza war — with allies pressing him to consider making the billions of dollars in military aid sent by the United States to its key ally each year dependent on Netanyahu listening to calls for restraint.

Biden “made clear the need for Israel to announce and implement a series of specific, concrete, and measurable steps to address civilian harm, humanitarian suffering, and the safety of aid workers”, the White House said in a readout of the call.

“He made clear that US policy with respect to Gaza will be determined by our assessment of Israel’s immediate action on these steps.”

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that the United States wanted to see action within the “coming hours and days” including a “dramatic” increase in aid to Gaza, where the United States has warned of impending famine.

Kirby acknowledged that the call followed “growing frustration” with Netanyahu although he reiterated that US support for Israel’s security was “ironclad.”

A key Biden confidant had earlier urged him to use the leverage afforded by the huge military aid that Washington gives Israel — something Biden has resisted for the past six months.

“I think we’re at that point,” Chris Coons, a Democratic senator from the president’s home state of Delaware, told CNN.

If Israel began its long-threatened full-scale offensive in the southern city of Rafah, without plans to protect some 1.5 million people sheltering there, “I would vote to condition aid to Israel,” Coons said.

“I’ve never said that before, I’ve never been there before,” he added.

Biden also reportedly faces pressure from even closer to home — from First Lady Jill Biden.

“Stop it, stop it now,” she told the president about the growing toll of civilian casualties in Gaza, according to comments by Biden himself to a guest during a meeting with members of the Muslim community at the White House, and reported by The New York Times.

– ‘Outraged and heartbroken’ –

Biden has supported Israel’s six-month-old war sparked by Hamas’s October 7 attack, but has increasingly voiced frustration with Israel’s right-wing premier over the soaring death toll and dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

In his strongest statement since the war began, Biden said Tuesday that he was “outraged and heartbroken” by Israel’s killing of the seven aid workers, who included a US-Canadian citizen.

Israel has said the deaths were unintentional.

But Biden’s words have not been matched by any concrete steps to limit the billions of dollars in military aid that Washington supplies to its bedrock regional ally.

In a sign of business as usual, Biden’s administration approved the transfer of thousands more bombs to Israel on the same day as the Israeli strikes that killed the seven aid workers, The Washington Post reported on Thursday.

Many Democrats fear the controversy could hurt Biden’s chances of reelection in November against Republican Donald Trump, as Muslim and younger voters express their anger over Gaza.

A former senior aide to Barack Obama — the president under whom Biden served as vice president — called for Biden’s actions to back his words.

“The US government is still supplying 2 thousand pound bombs and ammunition to support Israel’s policy,” Ben Rhodes, a former deputy national security advisor in Obama’s administration, wrote on X.

“Until there are substantive consequences, this outrage does nothing. Bibi (Netanyahu) obviously doesn’t care what the US says, its about what the US does.”

US voters are also increasingly turning against Israel’s Gaza offensive.

A majority of 55 percent now disapprove of Israel’s actions, compared to 36 percent who approve, according to a Gallup poll released on March 27.

"False, Malicious": Government Denies Report On Targetted Assassinations

'False And Malicious': Government Denies Report On Targetted Assassinations

New Delhi:

The foreign ministry has denied allegations in a report by the UK daily The Guardian that accuses India of conducting targeted killings in Pakistan to eliminate terrorists. The ministry has called it “false and malicious anti-India propaganda” and quoted foreign minister S Jaishankar, who had said targeted killings in other countries were “not the government of India’s policy”.

The ministry’s denial was mentioned in the report by The Guardian, which claims that Delhi “has implemented a policy of targeting those it considers hostile to India”.

Claiming that upto 20 such assassinations were carried out by the Indian intelligence agency RAW since the Pulwama attack of 2019, the report mentions that it is based on evidence supplied by Pakistan and interviews with intelligence officials from both sides of the border.

Quoting an un-named Indian official, The Guardian reported that India had drawn inspiration from Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and Russia’s KGB — which have been linked to extrajudicial killings on foreign soil — and the killing of Saudi journalist and dissident Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

The report said Pakistani authorities have produced documents about some of the killings, which could not be independently verified. It said Pakistani officials also claimed that the killings were orchestrated by sleeper cells of Indian intelligence established in the UAE.

Earlier, US and Canada had accused India of being involved in assassinations and such attempts on foreign soil.

In September last year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had claimed that there were “credible allegations” of Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. A Canadian citizen and a wanted terrorist in India, Nijjar was shot outside a gurdwara in Surrey in June. India had rejected the allegation as “absurd”.

Later, the US had claimed that they had foiled an attempt to kill another Khalistani separatist, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

The US claimed Pannun, an American-Canadian citizen, was the subject of an assassination bid orchestrated by Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, and an un-named Indian government official.

India said it is examining US inputs on the “nexus between organized criminals, gun runners, terrorists and others” amid the US allegations.

“India takes such inputs seriously since it impinges on our own national security interests as well. Issues in the context of US inputs are already being examined by relevant departments,” former foreign ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi had said.

Later, India had told the US that its investigation has found the involvement of a rogue official, reported Bloomberg. Quoting un-named intelligence officials, the report said that the person was no longer working with the agency.

Shashank Overshadows Gill's Knock To Hand PBKS A Famous Win Over GT

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill’s unblemished unbeaten half-century was overshadowed by uncapped Shashank Singh’s fiery knock as Punjab Kings registered a thrilling three-wicket win in an Indian Premier League match in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Gill made 89 off 48 balls, the highest individual score this season so far, and in the process hit six fours and four maximums to guide GT to an imposing 199 for four. He was also helped generously by B Sai Sudharsan’s 19-ball 33 and Rahul Tewatia’s eight-ball unbeaten 23.

But there was a heartbreak in store for GT as Shashank played the knock of his life, remaining unbeaten on 61 off 29 balls during which he hit six boundaries and four sixes to guide PBKS home with a ball to spare.

He was ably supported by Ashutosh Sharma (31 off 17) as the duo shared 43 runs off just 22 balls to raise PBKS’ hopes, which eventually came true.

Chasing a big total, PBKS suffered an early jolt in the form of captain Shikhar Dhawan, who played on to an Umesh Yadav delivery while going for a shot through the cover region.

Jonny Bairstow (22 off 13), not in the best of form, was then cleaned up by Afghanistan left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad.

PBKS kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as the next to follow was Prabhsimran Singh (35 off 24; 5x4s, 1×6), caught by Mohit Sharma at third-man as the batter went for a heave against a tossed-up delivery from Ahmad only to get a top edge as PBKS slid to 64 for three by the end of the eighth over.

Sikandar Raza was dropped twice in Umesh Yadav’s 11th over, albeit both were difficult chances.

But it was Shashank who capitalised on the lives, clobbering Umesh for two boundaries and a six to pick up 17 runs in the 11th over.

Raza, however, didn’t last long as he edged a Mohit hard-length delivery to Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps.

Shashank kept on using his long handle, picking up a few boundaries and sixes to keep PBKS in the hunt.

Shashank held on to one end and brought up his 50 off just 25 balls with the help of five boundaries and three hits over the fence.

Shashank single-handedly kept PBKS in the fray with his pyrotechnics. He was ably supported by Ashutosh as the duo snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Earlier sent in to bat, opener Gill made a rousing start to the innings as he clobbered spinner Harpreet Brar straight over his head for the first six of the match.

Runs flowed for GT till the third over before Kagiso Rabada (2/44) ousted Wriddhiman Saha, latched by PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan at mid-off.

Kane Williamson (26 off 22), who replaced injured David Miller, looked in great touch as he hit Sam Curran and Rabada for a few boundaries to keep GT scoreboard ticking.

But Williamson’s knock was cut short by Brar’s extra bounce, caught at backward point by Jonny Bairstow in the ninth over.

Zimbabwe all-rounder Raza was taken to task by Gill and new man Sudharsan as the duo picked up 14 runs off the 12th over, courtesy three hits to the fence.

Gill led from the front and clobbered Rabada for a maximum before Sudharsan struck the bowler to the mid-off boundary to keep up the tempo.

Sudharsan went about his business in style, picking up boundaries at will while Gill was happy to play second fiddle.

Sudharsan’s cameo came to an end when Harshal Patel snared him, caught by wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma as the batter went for an upper cut off a slower delivery.

Gill brought up his fifty off 31 balls with a boundary behind deep square leg in the 15th over.

Gill was at his imperious best as he dispatched Harshal over long-on for a maximum in the 17th over.

While Gill was going all guns blazing from one end, Vijay Shankar was flat and was caught by a diving Brar at long-off off Rabada.

In his second spell, Harshal was wayward with his lengths and Tewatia made good use of it as the penultimate over yielded 20 runs.

Tewatia played a blinder, including two boundaries off pacer Arshdeep Singh in the last two balls.
