Maheshwar Reddy urges CS to enhance rental amount of Sai Sindhu Foundation

Hyderabad: Stating that the 15 acres of prime land leased to Sai Sindhu Foundation by the State government was causing a huge loss to the exchequer, BJP Legislative Party leader A Maheshwar Reddy urged Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari to make changes in the lease agreement and enhance the lease amount.

In a letter written to the Chief Secretary on Tuesday, Maheshwar Reddy said the State government had leased the 15 acres of land at Khanamet in Serilingampally of Rangareddy district to the Foundation for Rs 5 lakh per year per acre (total Rs 75 lakh per year) with 5 percent annual increase of lease rent.

Whereas going by the market value of the land parcel the lease amount should be fixed at Rs. 50 crore per annum with 10 percent annual increase of lease rent, he said.

Giving details of the issue, the said the BRS government allotted the land in 2018 for construction of cancer hospital, on non-profit basis, on lease basis for a period of 30 years, renewable for another 30 years and the lease amount was fixed at Rs 1,47,743 per year for the first three years and a 5 percent increase thereafter every 3 years.

However in June 2023, a High Court bench heard a writ petition filed by Urmila Pingle, sets aside the GO and refers the matter back to the State government for a fresh consideration, he said.

Meanwhile in September 2023, the BRS government again issued orders allotting the land by fixing lease amount at Rs 2 lakh per acre with 5 percent annual increase of lease rent.

On January 29, the Congress government re-examined the matter and kept the BRS government’s orders in abeyance and again on March 14, the government issued GO 37, revoking its abeyance orders and increased the lease rental to Rs 5 lakh per year per acre (total Rs 75 lakh per year) with 5 percent annual increase of lease rent, he said.

He reminded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, as an Opposition leader, had termed the allotment of land to the Foundation as “illegal” and opposed it. He urged the Chief Secretary to make changes in the GO 37 and enhance the lease amount.

Iran says Israel prime source of tension in region

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian (L) and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says the Israeli regime is the main source of tension in the region.

He says Iran’s retaliatory operation of April 13 against Israel was within the framework of the legitimate right to self-defense and international law.

Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a phone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on Tuesday.

The duo discussed the latest developments in the region as well as relations between Tehran and Jakarta.

The top Iranian diplomat said Tehran has never been for escalation in the region, and the Islamic Republic will always remain the pillar of regional stability.

Amir-Abdollahian thanked Jakarta’s position in condemning the Israeli regime’s April 1 attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, and invited his Indonesian counterpart to visit Tehran.

Marsudi, for her part, said Indonesia was ready to cooperate further with Iran regarding the Palestinian issue.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched extensive missile and drone strikes against the occupied territories late on Saturday in response to Israel’s missile attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

Operation True Promise has inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories. The extent of damage is yet to be specified.

Following the reprisal, Iran warned Israel against taking any retaliatory action and also urged the United States to stay away from invovlement in the conflict and signaled that it viewed the matter as “concluded.”

Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC Quds Force, his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers were assassinated in the Israeli attack on Iran’s diplomatic mission.

Killed Maoist leader Shankar Rao had a Rs 25 lakh reward on his head.

New Delhi:

Twenty-nine Maoists, including a senior rebel leader – Shankar Rao, who had a bounty of Rs 25 lakh on his head – were killed by security forces during an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Tuesday afternoon. A huge quantity of weapons, including Ak-47 and INSAS rifles, were recovered.

Three security personnel were injured in the gunfight, which took place in forests near the village of Binagunda after a joint team of District Reserve Guard and Border Security Force were attacked.

Two of the three injured are from the BSF. Their condition is stable but the third – from the DRG – is in critical care. All three received treatment at a local hospital and are to be shifted to a larger facility.

Sources said the fighting began at around 2 PM, when a joint DRG-BSF team was conducting an anti-Maoist operation. The DRG was set up in in 2008 to combat Maoist activities in the state, and the Border Security Force has been deployed extensively in the area to for counter-insurgency ops.

There was another encounter in the district last month, in which two people – a Maoist and a cop – were killed, and security forces recovered a gun, some explosives, and other incriminating materials.

Personnel from the DRG and Bastar Fighters, both units of the state police force, with the Border Security Force, were involved in that operation, officials told news agency PTI. The patrolling team was cordoning off a forested area when fired on indiscriminately, leading to the gun battle.

In February, three Maoists were killed in another encounter in Kanker.

In November last year, while the state was voting in the first phase of an Assembly election, a gunfight broke out between security forces and Maoist rebels in the same district.

Iran operation debunks Israel’s invincibility myth: Cmdr.

Haydari stated on Tuesday that the successful launch of hundreds of missiles and drones at the occupied territories in retaliation for the Israeli regime’s April 1 terrorist strike on the Islamic Republic’s consulate in Syria was a severe and crushing response to the notorious Zionist regime.

He emphasized that the destruction of Israeli military bases falls within the framework of Tehran’s success in countering and neutralizing the financial, logistical and intellectual support of the criminal US administration and its allies in West Asia and across the globe.

“The Iranian Armed Forces can now confront any type of threats and nip any threat in the bud, thanks to constant vigilance and watchfulness… The courageous and decisive action of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran melted the hearts of millions of freedom-loving Muslims, grief-stricken Gazans and fighters from resistance factions, and lived up to the divine promise about the victory of truth over falsehood,” the Iranian Army’s Ground Force chief pointed out.

Haydari further highlighted that the Iranian retaliatory attack targeted the most strategic base and surveillance site of the Israeli military at the Jabal al-Sheikh Heights on the border between the occupied Palestinian territories and Syria.

“The strike on that base and Nevatim Airbase, which accommodates the Zionist regime’s strategic logistics, delivered a crushing blow to the regime’s decision-making and deterrence power,” the high-profile Iranian military figure stated.

Haydari underscored that the deterrence power and combat preparedness of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Armed Forces have warded off any act of aggression against the country, stating that the recent retaliatory attack against Israel showcased a fraction of Iran’s military might and made the Israeli army taste a great defeat.

“A much severe response awaits the Zionist regime’s forces if they commit another strategic mistake,” he stressed.

Separately, Haydari said at a news briefing in Tehran on the occasion of the National Army Day, which is celebrated annually on April 18, that the Tel Aviv regime will receive a much stronger response if it opts to carry out a new act of aggression against Iran.

He stated that Iranian Armed Forces are now at the apex of their combat preparedness, and that the Israeli regime must know that they have created a new equation and will response to their vicious bids.

“Armed Forces decisively responded to the nation’s request. Our forces proved that the Zionist regime is weaker than a spider’s web,” Haydari stated.

"AAP Created Illusion Of Free Water": Lt Governor's Open Letter To Arvind Kejriwal

AAP Created Chimera Of Free Water: Lt Governor's Open Letter To Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has written an open letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in jail in connection with the liquor policy case, after a note by AAP minister Atishi to him seeking suspension of the CEO of Delhi Jal Board over a murder triggered by a water dispute in the national capital. “It has become habitual on the part of your ministers to blame officers for their own fault,” he wrote.

He also accused the AAP government of deceiving the people by “creating a chimera of free water”. “Instead of fixing the iniquitious water supply, you and your ministers created a chimera of free water. Deception of people has been mastered into an art form by you and your minister,” he said.

A woman was killed following a quarrel with her neighbour over taking water from a common tap in Farsh Bazar area in north-east Delhi.

“In light of this shocking incident of the death of a woman in Farsh Bazar following violence due to water shortage, Hon’ble LG is requested to immediately suspend the CEO of Delhi Jal Board within 24 hours as this criminal negligence has taken place under his watch,” Atishi, who holds the water portfolio, alleged.

Hitting back, Mr Saxena said Atishi has indicted her own government by “underlining the inadequate supply of water as the cause of the incident”. “Atishi has ironically indicted her own government of more than nine years. Her note indeed is a prima facie admission of guilt, inaction and inefficiency over,” he added.

Detailing the crisis in numbers, Mr Saxena claimed of about 2.5 crore people in the city, “more than 2 crore (over 80%) people are deprived of drinking water supply in varying degrees”.

“It simply points to the fact that there has been no effort whatsoever during the last ten years for plugging the leaks and we seem to be spending thousands of crores in pumping water into a leaking bucket,” the Lt Governor claimed.

Atishi, in her note, alleged “inaction” by officers of the Delhi Jal Board and claimed that “there has been a concerted conspiracy to stop the funds of Delhi Jal Board in the FY 2023-24”.

Rebutting her claim, Mr Saxena said, “Since 2015, Rs 28,400 crore has been spent as Capital Expenditure by DJB. However, according to the Economic Survey 2023-24, over the last decade, water treatment capacity has grown marginally from 906 MGD to 946 MGD, a barely 4.4 percent increase.”

“We will uproot all gangs and goons”: CM Shinde after meeting Salman post firing outside his residence

Mumbai: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met superstar Salman Khan at the latter’s Bandra residence on Tuesday. The meeting came close on the heels of the firing incident outside the actor’s upscale Galaxy Apartments, last Sunday.

During the visit, CM Shinde assured Salman and his family members of tight security cover in light of the firing incident.

“I met Salman Khan and assured him that the government is with him. I have also directed the police to take immediate action in the matter. The two accused persons in the matter have been arrested and are being questioned for leads,” CM Shinde told media persons after meeting the superstar.

Vowing to wipe out the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which is alleged to have had a hand in the incident, the ruling Shiv Sena supremo brought up the crackdown on the underworld, saying, “There are gangs left in Maharashtra anymore. We will uproot all the gangs and goons. Goons will not be allowed to run their writ here. The arrested accused are being interrogated…no one will be spared. I have also directed the commissioner of police to provide additional security for Salman Khan and his family. It is our duty to take care of our people. I don’t want to comment on what happened during the previous government, but we will act decisively against all the gangs and goons who try to bring harm to anyone in the state,” CM Shinde added.

Veteran screenwriter and Salman’s father, Salim Khan, former MLA Baba Siddiqui, his son and MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui and Yuva Sena’s Rahul Kanal were also present during the meeting. In the immediate aftermath of the incident on Sunday, last week, CM Shinde spoke to Salman over the phone and provided him with additional security cover.

Shinde also brought up the firing incident with the Mumbai Police Commissioner and suggested increasing the superstar’s security.

He assured Salman that the government was with him and he need not worry. Earlier, on Tuesday, Kutch Police arrested the two accused persons and handed them to the Mumbai Crime Branch. Later, a city court sent the two accused to the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch until April 25 in connection with the firing incident.

The accused, identified as Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21) from Bihar, were presented before the court after a medical examination.

The two men, who came on a motorbike, fired four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments, where the actor resides, around 5 am on Sunday morning and fled. CCTV footage showed that both accused sported caps and carried backpacks.

The clip also showed them firing in the direction of the actor’s home. After the arrest of the accused, Kutch DSP AR Zankant said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

“Mumbai Police is investigating the case of firing outside the residence of actor Salman Khan. We informed the Kutch Police that the two accused had fled to the Gujarat district. Different teams were formed to catch the accused. They were eventually arrested by the Kutch Police and handed over to the Mumbai Police. During primary interrogation of the accused, we learned that they were in contact with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang,” DSP Zankant said.

Notably, since November 2022, Salman’s security level has been elevated to Y-Plus after threats from gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. The actor was also authorised top carry a personal firearm and has also acquired a new armoured vehicle for added protection.

On Monday, Salman’s brother Arbaaz Khan issued a statement on the family’s behalf, saying they all have been affected due to the ‘disturbing’ firing incident.

“The recent incident of firing by two unidentified person in a motorcycle at Galaxy apartment the residence of the Salim Khan family is very disturbing and unnerving. Our family has been taken aback by this shocking incident that took place. Unfortunately, some people claiming to be close to our family and pretending to be the spokesperson have been making loose statements to the media saying it’s all a publicity stunt and the family remains unaffected which is not true and these views should not be taken seriously,” the statement read.

He also shared that the family was fully cooperating with the Mumbai Police in the ongoing probe into the incident.

“No member of the Salim Khan family has made any statement regarding this incident to the media. At this time, the family is helping and cooperating with the police in the investigation of this untoward incident. We have faith in the Mumbai police and we have been assured they will do everything in their capacity to protect and secure our family.

Thank you everyone for your love and support,” Arbaaz added in his statement.
