Israeli regime attacks Hamas office in Beirut

Italian MP Takes Gun To Party, Guest Gets Shot, Says 'Not Me That Fired'

Rome, Italy:

An MP from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s party was at the centre of a political storm on Tuesday after taking a gun to a New Year’s Eve party where someone was shot with it.

Emanuele Pozzolo, a lawmaker for Meloni’s far-right Brothers of Italy party, has admitted owning the mini revolver — reported to be a 22-calibre North American Arms revolver — but says he did not fire it.

It was discharged by accident, he said, causing a light injury to the leg of a guest, the son-in-law of a bodyguard of junior justice minister Andrea Delmastro — who was also in attendance.

“I confirm that the shot was accidentally fired from a pistol I legally held but it was not me that fired,” Pozzolo, 38, said in a statement cited by the La Repubblica daily.

The incident at the party in Rosazza near Turin, which about 30 guests attended, is under investigation, according to reports.

But the story drew astonishment and outrage among opposition politicians.

Possession of firearms in Italy is strictly regulated, although Meloni’s party last month proposed to reduce to 16 the minimum age at which someone can obtain a permit for a hunting rifle.

“We could not have imagined that the passion for weapons of Giorgia Meloni’s party was such that MPs would take them loaded to New Year’s Eve parties,” said Elly Schlein, leader of the centre-left Democratic Party.

Former centrist prime minister Matteo Renzi added: “Why bring guns to a New Year’s Eve party in the presence of MPs and members of the government?

“Meloni’s (party) are not a ruling class. They are inadequate, incapable, unpresentable. And dangerous, first and foremost for themselves.”

Neither Meloni or her party has yet to react officially.

Lok Sabha election slogan will be Modi vs Rahul Gandhi, says Bandi

BJP national general secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar addressing party meeting held in Karimnagar on Tuesday.

Karimnagar: BJP national general secretary and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday said the forthcoming Parliament elections would be fought on the slogan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi versus AICC leader Rahul Gandhi.

Claiming that surveys by various organisations said more than 80 percent of people across the country wanted Modi to become the PM for the third term, Sanjay Kumar said the BJP would win eight to 12 Parliament seats in Telangana.

Stating that financial condition of the State was in bad shape, he said let alone for implementation of the Congress party’s poll promises, there was no money to pay salaries to employees. The Chief Minister was facing troubles implementing schemes and the smile on his face had disappeared. The situation was likely to worsen further after the Lok Sabha elections, he said, claiming a BJP government at the Centre was the only option to streamline the State’s economy.

Participating in a meeting of BJP mandal presidents and mandal in-charges in Karimnagar on Tuesday, Sanjay Kumar said the BJP would win 350 Lok Sabha seats in the elections. People

If BJP candidates were elected, there would be a possibility to bring additional funds since the Modi government would be there at the Centre, he added.

New Delhi:

BJP workers will help devotees willing to visit Ram temple in Ayodhya from different parts of the country after the January 22 consecration ceremony.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of top BJP leaders presided over by party chief J P Nadda. The meeting also discussed the party’s preparations and strategy for the Lok Sabha elections due to be held in April-May, BJP sources said.

Among those present in the meeting were party general secretary Sunil Bansal, Union ministers Bhupender Yadav, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Mansukh Mandaviya, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

State leaders and some MPs also attended the daylong meeting held at the BJP office here.

“After the January 22 consecration ceremony, party workers will provide assistance to devotees who want to visit Ram temple in Ayodhya from January 25 to March 25,” a BJP leader said after the meeting.

“BJP workers will take part in every programme associated with the Ram temple consecration ceremony,” the leader added.

Volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliates embarked on a 15-day long nationwide door-to-door public outreach programme on Monday to exhort people to join the consecration ceremony at Ram temple in Ayodhya by offering prayers at temples in their neighbourhoods.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and thousands of saints from across the country have been invited for the consecration ceremony scheduled on January 22. The Ram temple trust has extended invitations to the top leaders of various opposition parties as well.

“The BJP leadership has given a clear message that workers across all booths must provide all required assistance to those who want to visit Ram temple,” another BJP leader said, adding “BJP workers have been asked to celebrate January 22 like Diwali”.

The BJP units in Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states have been assigned the task of ensuring proper arrangements for the people to be visiting Ram temple in Ayodhya after the consecration ceremony, a source in the party said.

The meeting also reviewed the party’s preparations and discussed its strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP has recently formed a committee comprising senior leaders to vet joining of new members ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, a source in the party said, adding, “The BJP will consider induction of new members only after the are vetted by the committee.”

Spanish Star Jenni Hermoso Testifies About Luis Rubiales's World Cup Kiss

Spanish World Cup-winning star Jenni Hermoso told a judge on Tuesday that the kiss forced on her by disgraced former Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales was “at no point consensual” and that she had come under pressure to defend his actions. Arriving at the Audiencia Nacional in Madrid just before 10:00 am (0900 GMT), the 33-year-old went to testify before Judge Francisco de Jorge, who is investigating Rubiales on allegations of sexual assault and coercion. “Now everything is in the hands of the justice system and that’s all I can say,” she told reporters on leaving court several hours later.

A judicial source told AFP that she had “ratified the statement made at the public prosecutor’s office that the kiss was completely unexpected and at no point was it consensual”.

During the incident on August 20, the then head of Spain’s RFEF football federation held her head in both hands and forcibly kissed her on the lips after Spain won the World Cup in Australia.

He has said the act was “a consensual peck” but Hermoso has insisted it was not.

She filed a lawsuit against him in September and told the judge she had come under pressure to defend Rubiales, both on the flight back from Australia and on a subsequent team holiday to Ibiza in the Balearic Islands.

“After the event, the situation experienced by the victim, both on the flight back to Spain and during her stay in Ibiza was one of constant harassment by the parties under investigation, which disrupted her normal life, causing her anxiety and distress,” the source said, quoting Hermoso’s testimony.

Under Spanish law, a non-consensual kiss can be considered sexual assault — a criminal category that groups all types of sexual violence.

Penalties for such a kiss range from a fine to four years in prison.

The 46-year-old Rubiales, who is subject to a restraining order banning him from being within 200 metres (yards) of Hermoso, is also accused of “coercion” for allegedly pressuring her to justify his actions, which were broadcast live round the world.

The kiss provoked widespread outrage and prompted his suspension by world football governing body FIFA.

Rubiales appeared in court on September 15.

In October, the judge quizzed three others over allegations they also pressured Hermoso — former women’s coach Jorge Vilda, men’s team director Albert Luque and RFEF marketing boss Ruben Rivera.

Numerous other witnesses have testified in court over the pressure faced by Hermoso, among them two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and two other Spanish teammates.

Qassam Brigades say killed 5 Israeli soldiers, hit tank

Al-Qassam also said on Tuesday that it targetted and destroyed a Merkava tank of the Israeli army using an Al-Yassin 105 rocket near the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, Palestinian sources reported.

The Israeli army dispatched a second helicopter to evacuate soldiers wounded on the battlefield in southern Gaza.

The confrontation between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian fighters comes as the Israeli army is expanding its ground offensive into refugee camps in central and southern Gaza.

Additionally, the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, said it launched a rocket attack on gathering points of the Israeli forces in the central city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.

At least 22,185 Palestinians have been killed and 57,035 other wounded since the Israeli regime launched the devastating war on Gaza on October 7, the Gaza Ministry of Health said.

Open To Idea Of 1 Palestinian Government For Gaza, West Bank: Hamas Chief

Open To Idea Of 1 Palestinian Government For Gaza, West Bank: Hamas Chief

Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh said this in a televised address.

Palestinian Territories:

Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh said Tuesday he is open to a single Palestinian administration to govern Gaza, which is ruled by the militant group, and the occupied West Bank.

“We have received numerous initiatives concerning the internal (Palestinian) situation and we are open to the idea of a national government for the West Bank and Gaza,” Haniyeh said in a televised address.

Hamas has controlled the Gaza Strip since winning the 2006 Palestinian elections, which were followed by violent clashes with the Fatah party of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.

Multiple attempts at reconciliation between the factions have failed, while Abbas’s popularity as head of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank has plummeted.

Future governance of Gaza has been raised repeatedly during nearly three months of war between Hamas and Israel, which has vowed to crush the group.

The United States has stressed Palestinians must be part of any post-war administration, but the future role of the internationally-recognised Palestinian Authority remains unclear.

In Haniyeh’s address, broadcast by Al Jazeera, the Hamas chief also addressed discussions over a second possible pause to the fighting.

A previous truce paved the way for nearly half of the 250 hostages abducted from Israel on October 7 to be released by Gaza militants.

“The enemy’s prisoners will only be released on terms set by the resistance,” Haniyeh said, without further detail.

Some 129 hostages still remain captive in Gaza.

Pay special attention to slow learners, Bhadrachalam ITDA PO tells HMs and wardens

ITDA PO Prateek Jain speaking at a meeting at Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem district on Tuesday.

Kothagudem: Bhadrachalam ITDA project officer (PO) Prateek Jain directed ATDOs, headmasters and wardens in Yellandu division to pay special attention to slow-learning students studying in Ashram schools and hostels.

He held a meeting with the HMs and hostel wardens at Bhadrachalam on Tuesday to discuss measures to be taken to record better results in the upcoming 10th class examinations and ensure that as many students as possible score 10/10 grade in the exams. Jain said that 100 percent attendance of students must be ensured in every school, especially in 13 Ashram schools, three hostels and seven post matric hostels under the Yellandu division.

He said that daily slip tests and weekly tests must be conducted according to the hundred days plan for preparing the students for tenth class exams. Care must be taken that all the students watch video lessons prepared for learning English and mathematics in an easy way.

E-grade students should be given special attention. HMs, wardens and subject teachers must stay locally. Students have to be taught using the study materials already supplied to the schools. A special teacher has to be nominated to teach the students on computer and projector on a daily basis, the PO suggested.

ATDO Rupa Devi informed the PO that students were facing difficulty to study in the night due to problems related to supply of three-phase electricity to the hostels and minor repairs were required in some of the Ashram schools. Responding to the grievance the PO directed the DD Tribal Welfare prepare work proposals to address the problem.
