"Next Year I Will Try To Do It Again": Cristiano Ronaldo Sets Target For Himself

Legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo had a stupendous 2023 as he ended the year after becoming the world’s top goal-scorer. Following the landmark, the Portuguese superstar said that he will try to achieve it again next year. In 2023, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored 54 goals for his country and his current club, Al Nassr. English striker Harry Kane stood in second place with 52 for his country and newly joined club Bayern Munich. PSG and French attacker Kylian Mbappe scored 52 goals. Meanwhile, City and Norwegian striker Erling Halaand placed 50 goals.

While speaking to the Saudi media outlet SSC Sports, Ronaldo said that he was very happy to achieve the milestone and help his club and country.

“I’m very happy, it was a good year for me as an individual and as a collective. I scored so many goals, I helped the team a lot at Al-Nassr and for the national team. I feel good, I feel happy and next year I will try to do it again,” Ronaldo was quoted by Goal.com as saying.

Ronaldo is considered one of the best footballers in the world, and he has set a few records which are hard to be broken.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo recently joined the Saudi club Al Nassr in January 2023, and he has played 50 matches for his new team and scored 44 goals.

In the ongoing season of the Saudi Pro League, the Portuguese has appeared in 18 matches for the Riyadh-based club and scored 20 goals. Ronaldo also made nine assists in the 2023-24 season for Al Nassr.

Earlier, the Portuguese superstar returned to his boyhood club Manchester United in 2021 after leaving Juventus, however, his stint in the English club did not last very long after he lambasted the United coach Erik Ten Hag in a controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

After Ronaldo claimed that Ten Hag did not respect the Portuguese player, United terminated the 38-year-old’s contract. In his second run at United, CR7 played 54 matches and scored 27 goals.

Hodeida, Yemen:

At least 10 Houthi rebels were killed Sunday when US forces struck their boats in the Red Sea, two sources at Yemen’s Hodeida port said.

The US military earlier said it had destroyed several small boats operated by the Iran-backed Houthis after the rebels had attacked and tried to board a container ship.

One source at the rebel-controlled port said the wounded were rescued following the strike. The other source, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said there were four other survivors.

“Ten Houthis were killed and two were wounded in the US strike on Houthi boats that tried to stop a vessel in the sea off Hodeida,” the first source said.

The second source said that “four survivors have arrived in Hodeida with two wounded who were taken to hospital”.

The US Navy had responded to a distress call from the Maersk Hangzhou, a Singapore-flagged, Denmark-owned and operated container ship that reported coming under attack for a second time in 24 hours while transiting the Red Sea, the US Central Command said in a statement.

Houthis had fired on US helicopters, who “returned fire in self-defence”, sinking three of four small boats that had come within 20 meters of the ship, according to the statement.

Vikarabad: Seasoned bird watcher Sriram Reddy has photographed a Long-billed pipit at the Enkathala grasslands in Mominpet mandal recently. This is said to be the first sighting of the rare bird in Telangana.

With this record, the number of birds that were sighted and photographed in the State has increased to 442. It is also the first and only bird added to the list of birds sighted in Telangana in the year 2023. Pipits feed on insects and grains foraging on the ground in grasslands. The plumage of the bird is generally brown and streaked, providing camouflage in grassland habitats. It has a relatively long bill compared to other pipits.

The bird is native to the Middle East, Africa, and South Asian countries. In India, it is a native of different States in north India. However, it generally migrates down South to avoid the harsh weather during winter. Since it was sighted in Karnataka many times, birders were hoping that they would certainly see this bird in Telangana during winter. Among the pipits, only the paddyfield pipit, which can be seen everywhere in grasslands in the State, is native to Telangana. The pipit family comprises the Richard’s pipit, Tawny pipit, Blyth’s pipit, Tree pipit and Olive-backed pipit.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Sriram Reddy said they were searching for the bird for at least three to four years during the winter season. However, no wildlife photographer had managed to photograph it in the State so far. Since the Enkathala grassland is the only major grassland left in the State, he said the Long-billed pipit had chosen it as its winter destination.

Harish Rao skeptic over implementation of six guarantees

During the poll campaign, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other Congress leaders promised to fulfill certain poll promises on December 9 itself. But no action has been initiated, causing distress among the people, said Harish Rao

Hyderabad: Amid speculations over the Lok Sabha election schedule to be announced before the third week of February, former Minister T Harish Rao expressed doubts over the State government’s intentions to fulfill its six guarantees before the 100-day deadline. He feared that the election code could be used as a pretext to bypass the 100-day mark set by the Congress to implement its guarantees. He demanded for swift policy decisions and also release of guidelines, to dispel public concerns.

In an informal interaction with mediapersons here on Sunday, Harish Rao pointed out public dissatisfaction over the delay in implementation of the promised benefits even under the ongoing schemes, especially those pertaining to farmers including Rythu Bharosa financial assistance and Rs.500 bonus per quintal for paddy crop.

Highlighting the key guarantees related to farmer welfare, he criticised the Congress government’s failure to announce bonuses for the Kharif season crops.

“During the poll campaign, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other Congress leaders promised to fulfill certain poll promises on December 9 itself. But no action has been initiated, causing distress among the people,” he said.

Highlighting the suspicion that the recent white papers on the State finance might be used to sidestep guarantees, Harish Rao stressed the need for transparency in the State government’s actions. He urged the Congress government to address these issues by February 20, noting that the decision to present a Vote-on-Account budget might hinder the full-scale implementation of promises.

The former Minister specifically pointed to promises related to farmer assurances, crop loan waivers, social security pensions, and waiver of electricity bills upto 200 units, which were promised for implementation from December 9 onwards. None of these promises were realised, as promised, he said, calling for immediate decisions on crucial matters like the paddy crop bonus, particularly with the Lok Sabha elections coinciding with the Yasangi crop.

“Unlike the Congress which complained against Rythu Bandhu amount disbursement, the BRS will not approach the Election Commission of India to stop implementation of the people welfare schemes,” he said.

Expressing skepticism about the government’s commitment, Harish Rao urged the formulation of guidelines for the job calendar and called for transparency in reporting the increased Aarogyasri scheme benefits of upto Rs.10 lakh. He also criticised the Congress government’s decision to obtain fresh loans to the tune of Rs.13,000 crore over the next three months, after criticising the previous BRS government for increased debts.

Further, the BRS legislator lambasted Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka for denying to have promised unemployment sops to youth, despite assurances from Congress senior leaders Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi during the election campaign. He warned that guarantees could only be properly implemented with a full-scale budget, emphasising that a Vote-on-Account budget could lead to cuts in allocations to various sectors.

He strongly condemned the violation of protocol in the State government programmes and the reported disrespect shown to the elected BRS MLAs, while giving prominence to the defeated Congress candidates in official meetings. He reminded the government of its commitment to treat all MLAs equally.
