UP Official "Forced" To Convert To Islam And Marry Again, Claims Wife

UP Official 'Forced' To Convert To Islam And Marry Again, Claims Wife

It remains unclear whether Mr Gupta was forcibly converted to Islam or if he did it on his own accord.

New Delhi:

The wife of a revenue official has filed a police complaint alleging that her husband, Ashish Gupta, converted to Islam, changed his name to Mohammad Yusuf, and married a Muslim woman in the southern Uttar Pradesh town of Maudaha.

The saga began on September 2 when Ashish Gupta assumed his role as Naib Tehsildar in Maudaha. For days, an unfamiliar figure was seen at the town’s Kachariya Baba Masjid, ardently participating in namaz. The town’s curiosity piqued, an inquiry ensued, revealing the man’s identity as Mohammad Yusuf, a self-proclaimed resident of Kanpur.

However, further probe by the people revealed that Mr Yusuf was none other than the Naib Tehsildar Ashish Gupta himself. Anticipating potential fallouts of the bizarre situation, the mosque’s cleric alerted the police.

A fresh twist emerged with the entry of Mr Gupta’s wife – Aarti Yagyasaini – who filed a case of forced religious conversion and ‘immoral’ marriage of her husband to a woman named Rukshaar. The complaint implicated individuals with unknown identities, adding a new layer of mystery to the story.

Ms Yagyasaini’s police complaint claims Rukhsaar’s father, identified as Munna, along with a cleric from the mosque and several others, orchestrated the conversion on December 24, before the alleged forced wedding.

It remains unclear whether Mr Gupta was forcibly converted to Islam or if he did it on his own accord to legitimise an affair with Rukshaar. All angles are being probed, the police said.

Ayodhya: Voting on Lord Ram Lalla’s idol today, Temple trust to select best among three designs

Ayodhya

Ayodhya: Voting to decide the idol of Lord Ram Lalla, which will be installed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the grand temple next month, is to be held on Friday, sources said.

As per sources, the voting will take place at the meeting of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the trust entrusted with the construction and management of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

“All three designs, made by separate sculptors, would be put on the table. The one idol that will get the most votes will be installed at the consecration of the shrine on January 22,” sources said.

Earlier on Wednesday, trust secretary Champat Rai said that a 51-inch-tall idol of Lord Ram reflecting a five-year-old–Ram Lalla–would be selected among three designs.

“The one that has the best divineness and has a childlike look about it will be selected,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shri Ram Mandir Construction Committee Chairman Nripendra Misra on Thursday took stock of the ongoing construction work on the Ram Janmabhoomi Path and the complex along with the top official of the district.

The inspection came ahead of the consecration ceremony, scheduled next month, and just two days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the temple city.

“The work is not being done hastily, rather it is being done qualitatively by investing enough time into it,” Misra said while speaking to ANI.

“The construction work has been categorised into three phases. The first phase will be completed by December 2023, the second phase, when the construction of the temple will be completed, will be carried out in January and the third phase includes the construction work in the complex,” he added.

Misra also instructed the officials to complete the work of security equipment being installed along with the ‘welcome gate’ and canopy on Janmabhoomi Path under any circumstances by December.

As per temple officials, the consecration ceremony will be held over a span of seven days starting on January 16.

On January 16, the host appointed by the temple trust, Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, will conduct the atonement ceremony. The ‘Dashvidh’ bath, Vishnu worship, and offering to cows will be held on the banks of the Saryu River.

Following that, on January 17, a procession carrying the idol of Lord Ram in his child-like form (Ram Lalla) will reach Ayodhya. Devotees carrying Saryu water in Mangal Kalash will be reaching the Ram Janmabhoomi temple.

On January 18, formal rituals will kick off with the Ganesh Ambika puja, Varun puja, Matrika puja, Brahmin Varan, and Vastu Puja.
On January 19, the holy fire will be lit, followed by the establishment of ‘Navagraha’ and a ‘havan’ (holy ritual surrounding the fire).

The sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple will be washed with Saryu water on January 20, after which the Vaastu Shanti and ‘Annadhivas’ rituals will take place.

On January 21, the Ram Lalla idol will be bathed in 125 urns and will finally be laid to rest. On the final day, January 22, after the morning puja, the deity of Ram Lala will be consecrated in ‘Mrigashira Nakshatra’ in the afternoon.

Watch: MCG Crowd Dances To Hasan Ali's Moves. Video Breaks Internet

The Boxing Day Test in Melbourne between Pakistan and Australia has produced several impressive performances till now but on Thursday, the crowd were witness to hilarious scenes as a section of fans danced to Hasan Ali’s moves. During the action on Day 3, Ali was fielding at the boundary and he decided to try out some dance moves. The spectators behind him did not hesitate and they also joined in with the Pakistan cricketer. Ali ended up doing a couple of moves that the fans replicated and at the end of it, he applauded the fans for their effort. The video of the entire incident has already gone viral on social media.

Mitchell Marsh hit a counter-attacking 96 in a fighting rescue mission with a dogged Steve Smith to help Australia build a 241-run lead and regain control of the second Test against Pakistan.

The hosts were reeling at 16-4 after dismissing Pakistan for 264 in reply to their first innings 318 in Melbourne.

But Marsh and Smith put their heads down to compile what could be a match-saving 153-run partnership.

At stumps on day three, the hosts were 187-6 with Smith out for 50, off 176 balls, in the last over of the day, leaving Alex Carey unbeaten on 16.

Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mir Hamza both took three wickets.

It could have been a different story but Abdullah Shafique spilled a regulation catch in the slips when Marsh was on 20.

Marsh eventually fell four runs short of a deserved century, but it took a superb one-handed diving catch at slip from Agha Salman to remove him.

“Obviously that one hurts at the end,” Marsh said of Smith’s dismissal. “But from 16-4, if you’d told us we’d have a 240-run lead at the end of the day, we’d take that.

“It’s evenly poised,” he added. “As we saw, I think there’s still enough in the wicket so add a few more runs tomorrow and we’ll give it our all.”

After Cummins took 5-48 and Nathan Lyon 4-73 to dismiss Pakistan, Australia needed to negotiate a tricky 15 minutes of the morning session.

But Usman Khawaja was out for a duck second ball, caught behind by Mohammad Rizwan off bowling spearhead Afridi.

The same combination struck again when Marnus Labuschagne edged down the legside on five as the hosts slumped to 6-2 at lunch.

When they returned, David Warner let rip with a drive to the boundary off Afridi, but he didn’t last, dragging a Mir Hamza ball onto his stumps on six.

He received a standing ovation as he walked off for the last time as a batsman at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with the third Test in Sydney set to be the last of his long career.

US Tries to Persuade Shippers to Sail Red Sea Despite Houthi Attacks

US Tries to Persuade Shippers to Sail Red Sea Despite Houthi Attacks

Half of the container-ship fleet that transits the Red Sea and Suez Canal is avoiding the route.

The US military is trying to reassure shipping companies that a multinational force is making it safe to sail through the Red Sea and Suez Canal even though attacks from Yemen-based Houthi rebels show no sign of stopping.

The Pentagon is “engaged with industry on a near-daily basis to gauge needs and provide reassurance that the international community is there to help with safe passage,” Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Bryon McGarry, a Defense Department spokesperson for the Middle East and Africa, said Thursday in an emailed response to questions.

So far, that’s not proving enough for most shipping lines to gamble that a drone or missile aimed at their vessels won’t be one that gets past the defenses.

“It will take a little while for shippers to get a sense about the security situation,” said Mark Cancian, a retired Marine officer and senior adviser with the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. “If it turns out that the US and the coalition can maintain safe passage, then I think they’ll come back. But right now they really can’t be sure.”

Cancian said in an interview that some shippers will remain “more risk-averse than others. Ones that have connections with Israel might be more reticent.”

The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have said they’re targeting ships linked to Israel to show support for Palestinians, though ships without direct links to Israel also have been singled out.

Half of the container-ship fleet that regularly transits the Red Sea and Suez Canal is avoiding the route now because of the threat of attacks, according to new industry data. Many tankers and container ships are resorting to the longer – and costlier – route around the southern tip of Africa, which may lead to higher prices for oil and a variety of consumer goods.

A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S, the world’s No. 2 container line, said it’s preparing to resume Red Sea passages “as soon as operationally possible.” But even Maersk has cautioned that “the overall risk is not eliminated in the area,” and the company said it would “not hesitate” to re-evaluate the safety situation for its vessels and employees.

Gene Moran, a defense analyst and retired Navy captain, once commanded the USS Laboon, the destroyer that shot down four drones in the Red Sea Saturday. From his perspective, the shipping companies are still looking for the American-led coalition to do more.

“This method doesn’t appear to address the cause of the threat,” Moran said in an interview. “The Houthis are able to operate from the uncontrolled portions of Yemen. Something will need to be done about that. We seem to be moving very gingerly when the conditions seem to call for a more forceful response.”

But the Biden administration has been reluctant to take action that could turn Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip – which began after that group’s Oct. 7 assault on Israel – into a broader regional conflict. Shipping companies may share that concern.

“If the United States were to start shooting at Houthi camps, that would arguably increase the risk, not decrease it,” Cancian said. “So I don’t think the shippers are particularly anxious to start that.”

Less Traffic Through the Suez Canal | The daily number of tanker and cargo ship crossings has slipped this month

The Pentagon has said the Red Sea security initiative it’s leading – named Operation Prosperity Guardian – brings together forces from the UK, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the Seychelles, Spain, Australia and Greece as well as some other nations that don’t want to be named. Yet the military hasn’t spelled out details of how it will operate.

Major General Pat Ryder, the Pentagon press secretary, said earlier this month that the coalition will function as a “highway patrol” in the sea.

Moran said that the mixed nature of the threat, which includes potential attacks from drones, missiles and small boats, makes it more challenging to respond because not all the ships participating in the force will have the same capabilities as the US ships.

For now, the operation will continue indefinitely.

“We are not putting a timeline on this operation,” said McGarry, the Pentagon spokesperson. “We’ll stand firm with our partners in the region for as long as it takes until the threat to international shipping in these waterways has ceased.”

Researchers Study Kilonova, The Explosion Behind The Birth Of Gold

Researchers Study Kilonova, The Explosion Behind The Birth Of Gold

The research team models the various signatures of a kilonova explosion.

Imagine the universe’s most powerful fireworks: two ultra-dense stars crashing together, creating not just dazzling light but rippling spacetime and forging the gold in your ring. This cosmic dance, witnessed in 2017, wasn’t just a spectacle. It was a forge, churning out the precious metal that is precious to us. From a violent collision to a whisper in our telescopes, this event unveiled the universe’s hidden alchemy, where stars become gold dust and light dances in spacetime.

According to Space.com, a team of scientists, including researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics and the University of Potsdam, have used cutting-edge software to scrutinize kilonova explosion signatures, integrating data from neutron star observations, nuclear physics calculations, and collision experiments in Earth’s particle accelerators for a comprehensive analysis.

“By analysing the data coherently and simultaneously, we get more precise results,” said Peter T H Pang, scientist at Utrecht University.

“Our new method will help to analyze the properties of matter at extreme densities. It will also allow us to better understand the expansion of the universe and to what extent heavy elements are formed during neutron star mergers,” explains Tim Dietrich, professor at the University of Potsdam and head of a Max Planck Fellow group at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics.

As per the statement by the scientists, a neutron star is a superdense astrophysical object formed at the end of a massive star’s life in a supernova explosion. Like other compact objects, some neutron stars orbit each other in binary systems. They lose energy through the constant emission of gravitational waves-tiny ripples in the fabric of space-time-and eventually collide. Such mergers allow researchers to study physical principles under the most extreme conditions in the universe. For example, the conditions of these high-energy collisions lead to the formation of heavy elements such as gold. Indeed, merging neutron stars are unique objects for studying the properties of matter at densities far beyond those found in atomic nuclei.

First Time In 146 Years: Virat Kohli Achieves A New High In World Cricket

Stalwart batter Virat Kohli became the first batter to score 2000 runs in seven different calendar years during India’s crushing defeat to South Africa in the 1st Test on Thursday. Dean Elgar‘s elegant 185 combined with South Africa’s precise pace flattened India within three days. When the rest of the batters failed to deal with the deadly pace trio of Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen and Nandre Burger, Kohli churned up runs with quick singles and boundaries.

He scored 76 off 82 balls during India’s defeat by an innings and 32 runs, which took his tally to 2006 runs in 2023.

He had previously achieved the feat in 2012 (2186 runs), 2014 (2286 runs), 2016 (2595 runs), 2017 (2818 runs), 2018 (2735 runs) and 2019 (2455 runs). No other player, since international cricket was first played in 1877 (as per official record), has any other player achieved the feat.

Coming to day 3 action, India skipper Rohit Sharma‘s dreadful run in South Africa, especially against Kagiso Rabada continued. Rabada’s inward angling delivery left Rohit baffled as he failed to read the line, which resulted in the ball crashing into the stumps.

The veteran right-handed batter got removed for an eight-ball duck and this dismissal marked his 7th in 11 innings against Rabada.

Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to leave the delivery, but the ball glanced off his glove and went straight to the wicketkeeper.

Shubamn Gill looked set to spend a good amount of time on the field but his attempt to play a shot across the straight line failed. Marco Jansen picked his first as Gill departed with a score of 26(37).

After a dismal start to their second innings, South Africa struck India hard by removing Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahu in quick succession.

After Burger removed Ravichandran Ashwin for a golden duck, India’s fate was more or less sealed.

Jasprit Bumrah‘s runout following a brilliant effort in the field by Dean Elgar caused a mood of dismay. A brilliant review from the South Africa team saw Mohammed Siraj gloving the ball straight to the wicketkeeper.

Prasidh Krishna struggled hard but Jansen got the better of Kohli (76) which brought an end to India’s struggle within the first three days.
