India declares Canada-based gangster Landa terrorist

New Delhi: India has designated one of the most wanted fugitive and Canada-based gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa as a terrorist.

Landa (34), a native of Harike, district Tarn Taran, Punjab and presently residing in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada belongs to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) which is listed as a terrorist organisation at serial number 1 of the First Schedule to the said Act, read the MHA notification.

Landa, backed by the cross border agency, was involved in the terror attack through shoulder mounted Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) on the building of Punjab State Intelligence Headquarter at Mohali last year.

Landa has been involved in supply of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), arms, sophisticated weapons, explosives from across the border to various modules for carrying out terrorist activities in the State of Punjab, India, And whereas, the said Landa has also been involved in various criminal cases related to raising of terror modules, extortion, killings, planting IEDs, smuggling of weapons and narcotics and using funds or proceeds thereof for terrorist acts in the State of Punjab and other parts of the Country, a notification of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reads.

The MHA notification also said that Landa and his associates have been conspiring to disrupt the peace, law and order in the State of Punjab by carrying out targeted killings, extortions and other anti-national activities in different parts of India. An open ended warrant has been issued against Landa and he is also a subject of Look Out Circular dated June 9, 2021. The Central Government believes that Lakhbir Singh Landa is involved in terrorism and the said Lakhbir Singh Landa is to be added as a terrorist in the Fourth Schedule to the said Act.

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-section (1) of section 35 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Central Government hereby makes the following amendment in the Fourth Schedule to the said Act, namely: In the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in the Fourth Schedule, after serial number 54 and entries relating thereto, the following serial number and entries shall be inserted, namely: Lakhbir Singh Landa,” the notification read.

Last year, the Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali, Punjab, was the target of a dramatic RPG attack. Shockingly, it has come to light that the intended victim was the late Punjabi singer Shubhdeeep Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala. However, the perpetrators altered their plan, fearing a higher casualty count if the attack occurred during a gathering or meeting, top sources in Delhi Police said.

The RPG was supplied by Khalistani terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu, alias Rinda and it was originally meant to be used to assassinate Sidhu Moosewala when he was at a public rally or event, a senior police official told the IANS on the condition of anonymity.

However, a shift in plans occurred, and the alleged gangsters and terrorists opted to target the Punjab Police headquarters instead. This revelation was brought to light during an interrogation with incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. According to official sources, the RPG was illicitly smuggled into India through the Pakistan border, implicating Pakistan’s spy agency, ISI.

Rinda had reportedly enlisted members of Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang to carry out the operation. Further investigation uncovered that fugitive gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa had collaborated with Rinda, sharing manpower, logistics, and resources and he is second in command. Goldy Brar was found to have direct links with Landa, another BKI operative working closely with Rinda as revealed in NIA investigations so far.

Turkish SuperCup in Saudi Arabia Postponed Over 'Political Slogans'

The Turkish SuperCup in Riyadh between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce scheduled Friday was postponed at the last minute after Saudi organisers refused to allow players to wear jerseys bearing “political slogans”. “The match has been cancelled. The match will not take place,” announced the commentator on the Saudi sports television channel SSC. According to Turkish media, both teams wanted to warm up wearing shirts bearing the image of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of modern-day Turkey, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the republic.

Given the refusal of Saudi organisers to allow such a gesture, the fierce Istanbul rival teams and the Turkish football federation decided to postpone the match that was to be played at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh.

British Man Finds Long-Lost Mother, Only To Discover She's Gone

British Man Finds Long-Lost Mother, Only To Discover She's Gone

Steven’s biological mother died before he could meet her.

British national Steven Smith, 43, spent decades yearning to connect with his biological mother, a figure shrouded in mystery since his adoption as a baby. Years of searching culminated in a life-changing breakthrough: a DNA test revealed the whereabouts of his long-lost mother, Daphne Morfydd, according to BBC.

Overcome with anticipation, Steven decided to surprise her at her home in March 2021. However, the joy of this longed-for reunion was tragically shattered. Entering Ms Daphne’s Bethnal Green flat, Steven found her lifeless on the bathroom floor.

Devastated by this sudden loss, Steven’s grief is compounded by the incompleteness of his journey. Driven by a relentless desire to understand his heritage, he now seeks to find his biological father, hoping to meet at least one of his biological parents.

“I was born at St David’s Hospital in Carmarthen in 1980 and moved to East London with my mother when I was just three months old. Not long after that, I was placed into care, all of which I didn’t find out about until I was a teenager,” Steven told to BBC.

“Turns out I was named Jason Jones on my birth certificate, and my real mother was called Daphne. It was a real shock.”

He added that the truth about his origins had been further muddied by social services having lost his adoption case file.

“In 2021, I did a DNA test that revealed I had a half-brother I never knew about-it turns out he’d just done a similar test himself,” said Steven, who had moved to Essex by that point.

“What is more, he was living barely 30 minutes up the road from me.”

He found out he had a half-sister, and she knew where his mother was.

“I was given an address in Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets, and I waited until the Covid restrictions had lifted before going over there,” Steven told The BBC.

Wanting to make his mom happy, he dressed up in a suit and brought flowers. However, when he reached her apartment, she didn’t respond to the doorbell, and there was a pile of unopened mail outside. Checking around the back, he discovered the back door was open. Upon entering, he found her dead on the bathroom floor.

Why Gambhir Gives "So Much Controversial Statements?" His Reply Is…

Former Indian cricket team opener Gautam Gambhir is no stranger to controversies. Gambhir is well known for his fiery comments and straightforward analysis which sometimes leads to conversations on social media. During a recent Q&A session on X (formerly Twitter), a fan ended up asking Gambhir why he makes such ‘controversial statements’. “Why you always give so much controversial statements? #AskGG,” he posted. In response, Gambhir came up with his blunt style of answering.

“I say what I feel. You should think who benefits from the controversies!,” he remarked.

Earlier, on the question, “Biggest threat to India In T20 World Cup?”, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir gave interesting replies.

“Afghanistan, in those conditions can be very very dangerous. Australia, because they have got impact players, and England because they play T20 cricket the way it should be played,” Gambhir said.

“I have different angle. I think South Africa should win. They have not won a white-ball tournament. The way I saw their progress in the 50-over World Cup and obviously Pakistan who are very dangerous,” Yuvraj Singh said.

“See Pakistan, their fielding is, I saw in the 50-over World Cup, probably the worst in international cricket. They will have to literally pull their socks up if they really want to compete in the T20 format,” Gambhir added.

“The amount of finals that India have reached…I don’t think Pakistan have reached anywhere close to the amount of finals that Indi have reached in the last five or six years. And you are just one step away from the trophy. hopefully in the T20 World Cup could be one.”

Watch: Virat-Rohit Moment After Ex Skipper's Dismissal Has Fans In Shock

Rohit Sharma acknowledging Virat Kohli’s effort© Twitter

Virat Kohli emerged as the lone fighter as India looked to put runs on the board against a formidable South Africa pace attack Thursday. Kohli’s 76-run knock was the highest score by an Indian batter in the second innings, that too by a big margin, as the batting unit crumbled against Proteas pacers. On Day 3 of the first Test, skipper Rohit Sharma knew that Virat’s dismissal meant that it was all over for the team. Yet, he went ahead and gave Kohli his due credit for the valiant knock.

A video has emerged on social media in which Rohit could be seen lauding Kohli for his effort in the middle as the latter walked up the stairs to head into the Indian dressing room.

Both Rohit and Kohli have been in the spotlight, having marked their return to cricket after the World Cup 2023 final heartbreak. While Kohli did manage to show his true self in the second innings, skipper Rohit was far from convincing.

After the conclusion of the match, Rohit admitted that there’s a need for both batters and bowlers to step up to the challenge and play fearless cricket.

“We were not good enough to win. Having been put into bat, KL batted well to get us that score but then we didn’t exploit the conditions with the ball and then again didn’t show up today with the bat. If we have to win Test matches, we have to come together collectively, and we didn’t do that.”

“Guys have come here before; we know what to expect and everyone has their own plan. Our batters were challenged and we didn’t adapt well. This is a boundary-scoring ground; we saw them score many but we need to understand the opposition and their strengths as well. We didn’t bat well in both innings; that’s why we stand here. Not too many positives to finish the game within 3 days, but KL showed what we need to do on this sort of pitch,” Rohit asserted.

PM Modi to inaugurate redeveloped station, new airport in Ayodhya

Ayodhya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Ayodhya on Saturday during which he will inaugurate a redeveloped station and a newly-built airport in the temple town.

He is also expected to lay the foundation stones for a slew of development projects in Uttar Pradesh.

To welcome the prime minister, the holy city has been decked up with flowers, murals and thematic ornamental columns amid heavy security deployment. Huge posters with images of Modi have been put up at prominent locations here, while cut-outs of Lord Ram have been installed outside the redeveloped railway station.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made along the Ram Path to the Ayodhya airport, located about 15 km from the main city.

Devotional songs dedicated to Lord Ram played out on the streets here on Saturday morning while ringing of bells and holy chants at several temples filled the air.

“The prime minister is expected to reach Ayodhya airport around 10.45 am. After landing at the airport, he will head to the Ayodhya railway station where he will inaugurate the redeveloped railway station. He will then return to the airport, inaugurate the newly-bult airport and subsequently address a ‘jan sabha’ (public rally),” Gaurav Dayal, Divisional Commissioner of Ayodhya, told PTI on Friday.

About 1.5 lakh people are expected to assemble for the rally that will last nearly an hour, after which the prime minister will depart from Ayodhya, he added.
In a statement on Friday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office said during Modi’s visit, more than 1,400 performers will present folk art and cultural programmes in a total of 40 stages set up along the route from the airport to the railway station.

The prime minister would hold a roadshow while travelling from the airport to the railway station and acknowledge the greetings of the people of Ayodhya, sources had earlier said.

He is expected to spend about three hours here.

At around 11.15 am, Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped Ayodhya railway station and flag off new Amrit Bharat trains and Vande Bharat trains, the PMO said in a statement on Thursday, adding, he will also dedicate several other railway projects to the nation.

At around 12.15 pm, the prime minister will inaugurate the newly-built Ayodhya airport. He would later participate in a public programme where he would inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 15,700 crore in the state, the statement said.

“The phase-1 of the state-of-the-art airport has been developed at a cost of more than Rs 1,450 crore. The airport’s terminal building will have an area of 6,500 square metres, equipped to serve about 10 lakh passengers annually,” it said.

The interiors of the terminal building have been decorated with local art, paintings and murals depicting the life of Lord Ram.

This visit by the prime minister comes just ahead of the ‘pran pratishtha’ or consecration ceremony of the Ram temple here.

A grand Ram temple is currently under construction here, with the consecration ceremony to be held on January 22, which will be attended by the prime minister.
