"Next Sensation For India": Ex-ENG Skipper's Heartwarming Praise For Gill

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has picked two youngsters who he feels will be the future legends of world cricket. In a video posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Hussain revealed his picks — star India opener Shubman Gill and New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra. “I am going with Shubman Gill. I think he had a very good three quarters, nine-tenths of 2023. He must have learned so much from having the likes of Rohit Sharma on the other end. Maybe that illness towards the end just got him a little bit and his form dipped. He is a super talent and he is going to be the next sensation for India for years to come. Hopefully, he will have a good 2024,” said Hussain.

In 47 international games this year, Gill scored 2,126 runs at an average of 48.31, with seven centuries and 10 fifties. He ended this year as the highest run-maker in international cricket.

Though Gill is still finding his feet in T20Is and Tests, this Punjab batter roared out loud in the ODIs, even becoming the number one ranked batter.’

In six Tests this year, Gill scored 258 runs at an average of 28.66, with a century. His best score was 128. In 29 ODIs, Gill scored 1,584 runs at an average of 63.36 and a strike rate of over 105, with five centuries and nine fifties. His best score was 208. Gill has had an underwhelming 2023 in T20Is, scoring 312 runs in 13 innings at an average of 26.00, with a century and fifty. His best score was 126*.

About Rachin, Hussain revealed that he witnessed him during New Zealand’s tour of England this year before the ICC Cricket World Cup and liked his game.

“And the man who lit the World Cup up was Rachin Ravindra. Going into the World Cup, I had seen him in England a bit. He came in at the Lord’s down the order and smashed it around. I thought he could play. When he was given a chance at the top of the order, he was a revelation. Hopefully, he can continue his progression,” said Hussain.

Ravindra emerged as one of the biggest stars of the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, ending as the fourth-highest run-getter with 578 runs in 10 matches at an average of 106.44, with three centuries and two fifties.

In 37 international matches this year, Rachin scored 911 runs at an average of 36.44, with a strike rate above 110, with three centuries and three fifties. His best score was 123*. He also took 23 wickets across all formats this year.

Ravindra has just played three Tests and 18 T20Is, across which he has batted mostly down the order. Fans are yet to see how the all-rounder will perform in these formats as a top-order batter.
His ODI statistics stand out as he has scored 820 runs in 25 matches, across 21 innings at an average of 41.00 and a strike rate of above 108. He has three centuries and three fifties in the format.

FTX Founder Sam Bankman-Fried Won't Face Second Trial: US Prosecutors

Bankman-Fried is expected to be sentenced in March 2024.

New York:

U.S. prosecutors said on Friday they do not plan to proceed with a second trial against Sam Bankman-Fried, who was convicted last month of stealing from customers of his now-bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange.

In a letter filed in federal court in Manhattan, prosecutors said much of the evidence that would be offered at a second trial was already presented at the first trial, and there was a “strong public interest in a prompt resolution” of the matter.

Bankman-Fried is expected to be sentenced in March 2024.

UN frustrated as Israel hinders life-saving aid to Gaza

UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths called out the “impossible situation” facing people in Gaza and those trying to help them, saying that aid convoys are constantly coming under fire in the territory.

“You think getting aid into Gaza is easy? Think again,” Griffiths said on Friday in a post on X.  “This is an impossible situation … The fighting must stop.”

He made the remarks after Israeli forces fired on an aid convoy as it returned from northern Gaza along a route designated “Safe” by the military.

Thomas White, director of UNRWA affairs in Gaza said, “Our international convoy leader and his team were not injured but one vehicle sustained damage – aid workers should never be a target.”

The persistent difficulty in getting humanitarian relief into the besieged Palestinian territory comes as a UN-backed report said last week that the entire 2.3 million population of Gaza is facing crisis levels of hunger, with 576,600 people at catastrophic – or starvation – levels.

Israel imposed a “total siege” on the coastal enclave since it launched its relentless air and ground offensive on Palestinians on Oct.7. The blockade has deprived the population of Gaza of food and water.

The United Nations Security Council passed a resolution last week to boost humanitarian assistance to Gaza with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.

The UN chief said then that a humanitarian ceasefire “is the only way to begin to meet the desperate needs of people in Gaza and end their ongoing nightmare.”

He also said Israel is creating “massive obstacles” to the entry of aid into Gaza. “The real problem is that the way Israel is conducting this offensive is creating massive obstacles to the distribution of humanitarian aid inside Gaza.”

Delhi Police nabs international drug trafficker from Telangana

New Delhi: Delhi Police Crime Branch on Saturday informed that it apprehended an international drug trafficker from Telangana.

The trafficker, according to Delhi Police, was convicted in a rape case and had been absconding after obtaining parole in 2014 Further details are awaited.

Earlier, in November, the Mumbai Police arrested two key associates, including a Zambian national and a Tanzanian woman, for peddling cocaine in the city.

Tel Aviv assassinated IRGC advisor after failing in Gaza

“You assassinate Martyr [Brigadier General] Seyyed Razi Mousavi because you could not achieve anything in the Gaza battleground,” Brigadier General Esmail Ghaan said on Friday, addressing the Israeli regime.

Mousavi, a senior IRGC commander, was martyred in a missile attack by the regime against the Sayyeda Zeinab neighborhood of the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday. He was martyred while serving as part of Iran’s military advisory mission in the Arab country.

The atrocity came amid a war that the occupying regime has been waging against Gaza since October 7 following an operation staged by the Palestinian territory’s resistance movements, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm. Ghaani considered al-Aqsa Storm to be a response to “the extensive atrocities that the Zionist regime had committed against the Muslim people of Palestine.”

At least 21,320 people, mostly women and children, have been killed during the Israeli military campaign across the coastal sliver.

Tel Aviv, however, has stopped short of realizing any of its stated goals, including obliteration of the Gaza-based resistance movement of Hamas, enabling the release of the people who were taken captive during the al-Aqsa Storm, and prompting forced displacement of Gaza’s population to neighboring countries.

Ghaani likewise noted that the Israeli regime and the US — Tel Aviv’s most dedicated ally, which has thrown all-out military and political support behind the war — had achieved nothing throughout the aggression other than killing innocent women and children.

He noted the US had been investing all of its power in supporting the Zionists, but said Washington would eventually be held accountable for its crimes.

As opposed to the Zionist regime, which has been receiving maximal Western support, the people of Gaza have solely been defended by the regional resistance front, Ghaani, meanwhile, reminded.

The Iranian commander said the Zionist regime had, so far during the war on Gaza, incurred a sizeable number of casualties, including thousands of fatalities and as many as 500 cases of blindness.

“They, however, are not man enough to announce the number of their casualties,” Ghaani said.

Selection Process Of Ram Lala Idol Complete, 3 Sculptures Were In Race

Selection Process Of Ram Lala Idol Complete, 3 Sculptures Were In Race

The selection process for the idol of Lord Ram Lalla has been completed for Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir

Ayodhya:

The trustee of Ram Janmbhoomi Teertha Kshetra, Bimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra, said that the selection process for the idol of Lord Ram Lalla has been completed and the unanimously selected idol will be brought for ‘Pran Pratishtha’ next month.

“Today’s (trust) meeting was regarding the selection of the idol for the Ram temple and the process has been completed,” said Bimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra on Friday.

Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra is the trust entrusted with the construction and management of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The meeting of the trust was held on Friday to undertake voting to decide the idol of Lord Ram Lalla, which will be installed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the grand temple next month.

On being asked about the parameters of the idol selection process, Bimlendra said that the idol speaks to you, as once you see it, you get mesmerised by it.

“Even if multiple idols are placed together, the eyes will get fixated on the one that will be the best. And the coincidence was such that I liked an idol and gave my vote for it. Champat Rai will decide further. There was a voting system and we gave our preferences. The idol selected unanimously will be brought for Pran Pratishtha,” he said.

Champat Rai is the secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.

Earlier on Wednesday, trust secretary Champat Rai said that a 51-inch-tall idol of Lord Ram reflecting a five-year-old–Ram Lalla–would be selected among three designs.

“The one that has the best divineness and has a childlike look will be selected,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shri Ram Mandir Construction Committee Chairman Nripendra Misra on Thursday took stock of the ongoing construction work on the Ram Janmabhoomi Path and the complex along with the top district official.

The inspection came ahead of the consecration ceremony, scheduled next month, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the temple city on Saturda.

“The work is not being done hastily, rather it is being done qualitatively by investing enough time into it,” Misra said while speaking to ANI.

As per temple officials, the consecration ceremony will be held over a span of seven days, starting on January 16.

On the final day, January 22, after the morning puja, the deity of Ram Lala will be consecrated in ‘Mrigashira Nakshatra’ in the afternoon.

'End of Israeli regime, US has begun', Malay politician says

Speaking in an interview with Mehr News Agency on the sidelines of the Tehran International Conference on Palestine, Muhammad Khalil bin Abdul Hadi, Deputy Member of the Terengganu State Executive Council (EXCO) of Malaysia stressed the need for unity of all Muslims in support of Palestinians.

“When we talk about the Palestinian issue, this common issue between Muslim countries and nations, whether you are Iranian, Malay, Araba, Sunni or Shia, we have to unite,” he said.

Hailing Iran’s policy of supporting oppressed Palestinian people, he noted, “Iran is a country that is consistent on its policy towards the Palestinian issue since the victory of Islamic Revolution in 1979.”

He went on to say, “Since the revolution, we recognized Iran and we worked together towards this issue.”

Commenting on the future of war between Palestinians and the Israeli regime, he said, “I think now what we see is the beginning the end of the Israeli regime and imperialism, the United States and the West.”

“Because it is the first time that we see that all nations of the world, not only the Muslim nations, are against Zionism and the Americans’ support for Israel,” he underlined.

Responding to a question raised by other reporters about the measures taken by the Malaysian government about the issue of Gaza, he said, “At the moment the government and the people stand united with Palestinian people and against the Israeli occupation.”

“We are consistent in supporting the Palestinian people to defend themselves from Zionism and Israel,” he concluded.
