The families will first need to file a missing complaint at the police station, and then it will be thoroughly examined at different levels before being published in newspapers, social media and government gazette as per process, VB Pathak said.

In case, a person from outside Sikkim went missing, the family has to lodge a complaint with the police in their state, which will then be transferred here for examination, he said.

The flash flood in the Teesta river basin created chaos in the state on October 4, killing at least 46 people, besides the 77 missing persons.

CLAT 2024 applications surge by 24.5 per cent

As per the details shared by the Consortium of National Law Universities that organizes the CLAT, the admission test received over 1 lakh registrations.

Hyderabad: The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2024 scheduled for Sunday recorded a 24.5 per cent surge in applications compared to CLAT 2023.

As per the details shared by the Consortium of National Law Universities that organizes the CLAT, the admission test received over 1 lakh registrations. Applications for the undergraduate law programmes surged by 34.7 per cent and PG courses saw a jump in registrations by 25.8 per cent.

“The surge in both categories culminates in an outstanding overall growth of 24.5 per cent, showcasing the enthusiasm and widespread interest in CLAT 2024. It can be attributed to the shift of the exam to the month of December from June, which enables a tension fee timeline for both the aspirants and organizers,” said Prof. Vijender Kumar, president, Consortium of NLUs, on Saturday.

To ease stress of candidates appearing for the test, the Consortium revised the UG paper reducing the questions from 150 to 120 and retained the same duration of two hours. The test is set to be conducted at 139 test centres across the country.

According to the Consortium, to accommodate candidates from regions with a significant tribal population, the CLAT 2024 expanded its footprint by introducing new test centres in Silvassa and Diu in the union Territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu.

US attack on Jurf al-Nasr, ‘violation of Iraqi sovereignty’: Iraq’s PM

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has slammed the United States’ latest attack on the Jurf al-Nasr area, reiterating his country’s commitment to safeguarding its borders and sovereignty against any aggression.

Sudani made the remarks in a phone call with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Saturday, emphasizing that Baghdad considers as a “violation of Iraqi sovereignty” the US attack on paramilitary forces stationed in the area last month.

He also reiterated Iraq’s unwavering commitment to protecting international coalition advisors currently stationed in the country, as he conveyed the Iraqi government’s staunch rejection of any attacks on its territory.

On November 22, US airstrikes killed eight members of the anti-terror resistance group Kata’ib Hezbollah in the Jurf al-Sakhar region.

Kata’ib Hezbollah, which has been targeting US forces in Iraq over the past weeks in response to Washington’s support for ongoing Israeli aggression on Palestine, said in a statement that it would attack a wider array of targets if US strikes are repeated.

Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), an umbrella group of paramilitary forces that controls Kata’ib Hezbollah, also said that it would never shun its responsibility for defending Iraq’s territorial integrity.

Resistance groups in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon have been targeting US and Israeli interests in the region since Israel launched a full-scale invasion of the Gaza Strip in early October with direct support from the US.

The groups have threatened to escalate the attacks if the Israeli carnage in Gaza is not stopped.

Kata’ib Hezbollah and other Iraqi groups have launched more than 60 attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria since the start of the Gaza war.

The US has responded by carrying out two series of attacks on resistance forces in Iraq and three others on their peers in Syria.

"Total Destruction" Of Hamas Would Mean "War Will Last 10 Years": Macron

'Total Destruction' Of Hamas Would Mean 'War Will Last 10 Years': Macron

Emmanuel Macron urged Israel to clarify its goals towards Hamas

Dubai:

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that France was “very concerned” by the resumption of violence in Gaza and that he was heading to Qatar to help in efforts to kickstart a new truce ahead of a ceasefire.

Macron also told a press conference at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai that the situation required the doubling down on efforts to obtain a lasting ceasefire and the freeing of all hostages.

A temporary truce between Israel and Hamas collapsed on Friday after mediators were unable to extend the pause. Israel and Hamas have traded blame over the collapse.

Macron also urged Israel to clarify its goals towards Hamas.

“We are at a moment when Israeli authorities must more precisely define their objectives and their final goal: the total destruction of Hamas, does anyone think it is possible? If this is the case, the war will last 10 years,” he said.

“There is no lasting security for Israel in the region if its security is achieved at the cost of Palestinian lives and thus of the resentment of public opinions in the region. Let’s be collectively lucid,” Macron added

CPI national secretary K Narayana accused party leader and ex-MLA Puvvada Nageswara Rao of favouring his son Puvvada Ajay Kumar instead of the party and its priorities

Khammam: CPI national secretary K Narayana accused party leader and ex-MLA Puvvada Nageswara Rao of favouring his son Puvvada Ajay Kumar instead of the party and its priorities.

In an open letter written to Nageswara Rao and released to the media on Tuesday, Narayana said he was supposed to write the letter long back but abstained because of the former’s services to the party. While maintaining that Nageswara Rao played a vital role in the State politics and strengthened CPI in the district, Narayana stated that after Ajay Kumar started playing a key role in politics, there were basic changes in Nageswara Rao’s approach towards the party affairs. The party respects Nagewara Rao and his flex banner was still displayed at the district party office in Khammam. However, he never endorsed the party’s ideological decisions openly in recent times and has supported his son on every occasion.

In the recent Assembly elections, as part of its ideological decision, the party fielded ex-MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao for Kothagudem Assembly seat. But Nageswara Rao failed to support his candidature and on other hand campaigned for Ajay Kumar in Khammam in many ways, Narayana noted. In a rather harsh manner, the CPI national secretary told Nageswara Rao that he could not bear the damage being done to CPI anymore and the latter could acknowledge the letter addressed to him in any manner he wished to.

Narayana told Nageswara Rao not to insult the party and its workers and to remove his flex banner being displayed at the district office on his own.

Iran-Russia 9-month trade up 30%

Olga Basha told IRNA in an exclusive interview in Moscow that bilateral trade between Iran and Russia more than doubled from 2020 to 2022, reaching $4.6 billion in 2022 from $2.22 billion in 2020.

Responding to a question on the usage of national currencies in settling trade transactions between the two nations, Basha noted that given the fact that mutual trade experienced a 30 percent increase, we witness a hike in the ratio of financial exchanges by the use of Russian ruble and Iranian rial in the two sides’ foreign trade.

Tehran, Moscow aim for 10m tons of annual transit

In line with the two countries’ determination to increase the level of trade exchanges, during a video conference meeting between the deputy transport ministers of Iran and Russia on Saturday, the two sides discussed ways of increasing annual transit through Iran to 10 million tons.

In this virtual meeting, the two sides discussed transportation cooperation between the two countries in all areas including rail, road, and sea.

Speaking in this meeting, Iranian Deputy Transport Minister Shahryiar Afandizadeh referred to the high potential for port cooperation between the two countries, especially in the Caspian Sea, and noted that there is a good capacity in Iran’s northern ports for receiving goods sent from Russia and sending them to desired destinations using combined transportation methods.

The officials also discussed the Rasht-Astara railway project and the representative of the Iranian contractor of the project, namely the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company, presented a report on the project’s physical progress.

Iran and Russia have been taking serious steps to boost their mutual trade over the past few years.

In late January, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that the Islamic Republic and Russia have reached an agreement to boost the trade between the two countries up to $10 billion.

“We agreed to remove trade barriers and boost the economic exchanges between the two countries. Currently, the level of mutual trade is not acceptable, so the two countries agreed to increase trade to $10 billion a year,” Raisi said on January 21, upon arrival to Tehran after a two-day visit to Moscow.

As major players in the world and West Asia’s political and economic scene, Iran and Russia have been expanding political and economic ties for many years, however, the relations between the two countries have entered a whole new level over the past few months.

The imposition of sanctions on both countries has been a major factor in bringing the two sides closer together, making them a strong alliance against U.S. pressures. Over the past few months, senior officials from the two sides have been meeting and visiting each other to consolidate bilateral cooperation in various fields, including energy, oil, gas, and transit, as well as diplomatic and political relations.

As the most significant event among the mentioned exchanges, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin visited Tehran on July 19 to attend the 7th Summit of the Guarantor States of the Astana Process.

During his visit to Tehran Putin met with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and President Raisi and exchanged views on the recent development in the world and the relations between the two countries.

In these meetings, the two sides reached new agreements and stressed the need to take the necessary measures for broadening political and economic ties between the two countries to nullify the impacts of the U.S. sanctions.

Among other issues, Tehran and Moscow have been negotiating a free trade agreement to ensure acceleration in the economic relations between the two countries.

Erdogan says Netanyahu 'the butcher of Gaza' has to be tried in ICC

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he described as “the butcher of Gaza,” must be tried in the International Criminal Court (ICC) for committing war crimes in the besieged Palestinian territory.

The Turkish leader once again urged the court in The Hague to ensure accountability for Netanyahu, who has “already written his name in history as the butcher of Gaza.”

He said the Netanyahu government’s massacre in Gaza is etched in history as a “black stain.”

“This is state terrorism. We cannot stay silent against this state terrorism.”

The Turkish president has repeatedly called for the occupying regime to be held accountable for war crimes in the Gaza Strip since Tel Aviv waged its war on the populated Palestinian territory almost two months ago.

Israel has so far killed more than 15,200 people, according to the Gaza health ministry, which said Saturday that 70 percent of those killed are women and children.

“The occupation (forces) continues to expand its bombing of civilians after the end of the humanitarian pause,” the ministry said, referring to a week-long ceasefire that expired on Friday.

Chance for peace lost

Referring to the resumption of Israel’s attacks on Gaza, Erdogan said that the chance for peace in the Palestinian territory was lost for now due to “Israel’s uncompromising approach.”

“We have always emphasized that we are in favor of a permanent ceasefire rather than a humanitarian break.”

The truce that started on Nov. 24 had been extended twice. It saw the release of 105 Israeli captives held in Gaza and 240 Palestinian prisoners.

The temporary ceasefire also allowed some humanitarian aid into Gaza but the aid supplies were far below what is needed, according to aid workers.

Israel kills 2 IRGC military advisors in strike on Syria

Panah Taqizadeh (L) and Mohammad Ali Ataee Shoorcheh. Israel killed the two military advisors of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in an attack in Syria.

Israel has killed two military advisors of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in an attack in Syria.

In a statement on Saturday, the IRGC said two of its members, Mohammad Ali Ataee Shoorcheh and Panah Taqizadeh, were martyred by the Zionist regime while on an advisory mission.

It said the two IRGC members were martyred against the backdrop of the relentless savagery of the “fake and child-killing” Israeli regime in Gaza.

Israel is committing widespread crimes in Gaza with an absolutely uncritical, flagrant support of the United States and a number of European governments, the IRGC statement read.

Iran maintains an advisory mission in Syria at the request of Damascus with the aim of helping the war-torn Arab country get rid of the foreign-backed militants who have been fighting the democratically-elected Syrian government since 2011.

In 2017, Iran’s advisory assistance helped Syria defeat the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group. Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike near the Baghdad International Airport in January 2020, played a key role in the disgraceful defeat of Daesh.

Israel waged its war on Gaza on October 7, after Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupied territories in response to the regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians. Tel Aviv also blocked access to water, food, and electricity in Gaza.

On Saturday, the regime launched an intense bombardment campaign on various areas in the Gaza Strip. It was the second day of the regime’s strikes since the truce between Israel and Hamas collapsed.
