Infanticide characteristic of Israeli regime: Iran FM

Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a tweet on the occasion of the death anniversary of the 12-year-old boy Muhammad al-Durrah in his father’s arms in the Gaza Strip.

Mourning the loss, the minister said, “Infanticide is a characteristic of the Israeli regime”, noting that “since the beginning of 2023, 40 Palestinian children have been martyred by the apartheid, fake Zionist regime.”

Muhammad al-Durrah was killed by Israeli fire on September 30, 2000, the second day of the Second Intifada (uprising) against the Israeli regime.

A video showing Muhammad and his father, Jamal, sheltering by a concrete water barrel in a hail of bullets shortly before Muhammad’s death sparked anger across the world.

Over the past months, the Israeli regime has ramped up attacks on Palestinian towns and cities throughout the occupied territories. As a result of these attacks, dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives and many others have been arrested.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed this year in the occupied Palestinian territories and Gaza. The majority of these fatalities have been recorded in the West Bank.

The United Nations said 2023 is the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank since it began keeping track of fatalities almost two decades ago.

Previously, 2022 had been the deadliest year with 150 Palestinians killed, of whom 33 were minors, according to the UN.

The rising number of fatalities last year prompted UN experts to condemn the treatment of Palestinians, including attacks on their homes and destruction of their property.

Russia will gain more regions in Ukraine: Medvedev

Russia’s former president Dmitry Medvedev has said Russian troops will gain more new regions in Ukraine, marking the first anniversary of the country’s unification with the four Ukrainian regions of the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, and Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine will continue until the “original Russian territories” are free, Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel on Saturday.

The residents of the four territories took part in referendums a year ago and made the decision “to be with their Fatherland,” he said, adding, “This choice became a symbol not only of the restoration of historical justice but also of the unity of the Russian people, their colossal will and dedication.”

Medvedev, who now holds the position of deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, insisted that the campaign will be continued until the Kiev regime is “destroyed and the original Russian territories are liberated from the enemy.”

Russia will even add more new regions to its territory, Medvedev asserted. “Victory will be ours. And there will be more new regions within Russia.”

Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson signed agreements to join the Russian state at the Kremlin on September 30, 2022.

It followed referendums in the four regions held between September 23 and 27 last year. During the votes, the number of those who supported unification with Russia stood at 99.23 percent in Donetsk, 98.42 percent in Lugansk, 87 percent in Kherson, and 93.11 percent in Zaporizhzhia.

In a speech on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the unification of the new territories was a “conscious, long-awaited, hard-won, and genuinely popular decision … made collectively through referendums in full compliance with international norms.”

Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine in late February 2022, following Kiev’s failure to implement the terms of the 2014 Minsk agreements and Moscow’s recognition of the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.

Putin said the goal of the operation was to “de-Nazify” Ukraine and stop NATO westward encroachment.

Prior to this, Crimea had declared independence from Ukraine on March 17, 2014, and formally applied to become part of Russia following a referendum, in which 96.8 percent of participants voted in favor of the move.

After Crimea’s reunification, the United States and its Western allies in the European Union slapped sanctions on Russia, initiating a downward trend in diplomatic relations with the Kremlin which has gotten worse till this day.

Hyderabad: Those anticipating a cooler weather in Hyderabad with the arrival of October may have to wait for some more time.

The wait could as well stretch till November as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts above-normal temperatures this month.

The IMD, employing probability models for long-range predictions, expects elevated maximum temperatures across the State, including Hyderabad.

In recent days, maximum temperatures in the city have been on the rise, leading to discomfort. Hyderabad’s average maximum temperature for October is 31.4 degrees Celsius, with an average minimum temperature of 20.9 degrees Celsius.

El Niño conditions are currently prevailing in the equatorial Pacific region and are expected to persist in the upcoming season, potentially resulting in higher temperatures statewide. Additionally, reduced rainfall is likely in October across the state, including Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Even as India is going through a purple patch at the Asian Games, the medal haul hit a false note on Monday when heptathelete Swapna Barman accused bronze medal winner Agsara Nandini of being ineligible to compete as a woman.

Swapna triggered a controversy on social media as she claimed that the athlete who won the bronze is a ‘transgender’ who was ineligible to participate in the event. Interestingly, Swapna later deleted the post which made it apparent that she was accusing Agsara Nandini.

“I have lost my Asian Games bronze medal to a transgender woman at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. I want my medal back as it is against the rules of athletics. Help me and support me please(Sic.)” Burman said in her now deleted tweet.

According to reports, the Athletics Federation of India(AFI) refused to comment on the issue and said that it would first look into the matter before making any official statements.

Responding to Swapna’s cryptic tweet, Nandini slammed her and said that she would take up the matter with the federation.

As per the rules of World Athletics regulations which came into effect from March 31 this year, all athletes who go through what is defined as ‘male puberty’ cannot compete in female events.

Indian Athletics fans however, were unhappy with the exchanges between two compatriots as the battle unfolded in the Hanfzhour Asian Games. Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their anguish.

Adani Group commissions Kharghar-Vikhroli transmission line

Ahmedabad: Kharghar Vikhroli Transmission Limited, which will enable additional power to be brought into Mumbai and thus enable meeting the city’s growing and future electricity demand, is commissioned, said Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) through a release on Monday.

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), earlier known as Adani Transmission Limited (ATL), is a part of the diversified Adani Group. It is the transmission and distribution arm of the Adani portfolio.

Built by Adani Energy Solutions Limited (earlier known as Adani Transmission Limited), the energy solution, transmission and distribution arm of the Adani portfolio, the project is critical for Mumbai as the existing capacity of the transmission corridor is not sufficient to carry further power into the city.

Mumbai witnessed grid failure twice in recent times on 27 February 2022, and on 12 October 2020; localities across the metropolis went dark for a considerable period.

The Kharghar-Vikhroli line will bring additional 1,000 MW reliable power to Mumbai city as a solution to mitigate any such incidents in the future. With this project’s commissioning, Mumbai gets a 400 KV grid within its municipal geography, bringing enhanced import capability within its electricity grid and improving reliability and stability. For consumers, it provides that much more sustainability to commuting through bullet trains, Metro Rail and city railways, as also for commercial and residential establishments,” the release read.

Kharghar Vikhroli Transmission Limited comprises approximately 74 circuit kilometres of 400 kV and 220 kV transmission lines, along with a 1,500 MVA 400kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Vikhroli, the first 400KV substation of its kind in Mumbai.

As per the release, the KVTL project starts in the Kharghar area of Navi Mumbai, traverses through its urbanlocations and terminates at Vikhroli in Mumbai city. The project includes the following major elements: 1. 400 kV/220 kV GIS Vikhroli substation, having 1500 MVA transformation capacity2.

Air Insulated System switchyard at Kharghar3. 400 kV double/multi circuit Kharghar-Vikhroli line4. 400 kV loop in loop out (LILO) on Talegaon-Kalwa line at Vikhroli5.

220 kV LILO on Trombay-Salsette line at Vikhroli AESL is the country’s largest private transmission company. ATL also operates a distribution business, servingmore than 12 million consumers in Mumbai.

Japan's Top Talent Agency To Dissolve After Sex Abuse Scandal By Founder

Japan's Top Talent Agency To Dissolve After Sex Abuse Scandal By Founder

New president said the agency would change its name to “Smile-Up”

Tokyo:

Japan’s top talent agency Johnny & Associates said on Monday it would split into two entities – one devoted to compensating victims of sexual abuse by its late founder, adding that 325 people so far have sought damages. The agency will also be changing its name, disassociating itself from its founder Johnny Kitagawa.

The agency, which represents only male entertainers, last month admitted that Kitagawa, who died in 2019, had abused hundreds of boys and young men seeking stardom going back to at least the 1970s. Kitagawa’s niece Julie K. Fujishima last month resigned as agency president, apologising and promising reform and compensation.

New president Noriyuki Higashiyama said the agency, commonly known as Johnny’s, would change its name to “Smile-Up” and focus exclusively on compensating Kitagawa’s victims before being dissolved.

A separate company would be spun off to take over the talent management business, renewing contracts with those individuals or groups wishing to stay, he told a briefing. Its new name will be chosen by fans of its entertainers.

The first media reports of Kitagawa’s abuse were carried by the local tabloid Shukan Bunshun in 1999, but the scandal blew wide open this year as more victims came forward after a report by the BBC in March.

Following the agency’s acknowledgment of the abuse last month, dozens of major companies have said they would end their contracts with its entertainers.

In a statement by Fujishima read out in her absence, the former chief executive, who owns 100% of the agency, said it was her duty as Kitagawa’s relative to put an end to Johnny & Associates.

“I want to remove all traces of Johnny Kitagawa from this world,” her statement said.

Sangam India eyes close to Rs 4,000 crore revenue by FY25

Sangam India has also introduced a seamless garment manufacturing plant with 52 knitting machines capable of creating 5.4 million items per year.

Mumbai: Cotton, PV-dyed yarn and ready-to-stitch fabric producer Sangam India expects to achieve a revenue of around Rs 4,000 crore by 2024-25, following capacity expansion at its seven production units in Bhilwara in Rajasthan, a top company executive has said.

“We recorded Rs 2,730 crore revenue in FY23, and this financial year we are expecting to touch Rs 3,000 crore. With our capacity expansion in various product categories, we are targeting close to Rs 4,000 crore revenue by 2024-25,” Sangam India Managing Director and CEO S N Modani told PTI over phone.

However, in this financial year the company’s profit will be impacted as the market is under pressure following global economic conditions, he added.

The long-term debt of the company, which employs over 1,200 people, is Rs 600 crore.

The company has seven production units in Bhilwara with over 2,36,000 spindles and 3,000 rotors. It manufactures 35 million metres of PV (polyester viscose) fabric and 48 million metres of denim fabric annually.

Sangam India has also introduced a seamless garment manufacturing plant with 52 knitting machines capable of creating 5.4 million items per year.

“We had a capital expenditure of Rs 900 crore for expanding production capacity in a phased manner of cotton, denim, and synthetic weaving. We have already spent Rs 600 crore and this year we have plans to spend another Rs 300 crore for expansion of our production units, which will be done by December this year.

“We produce 0.6 million metres of fabric daily. Our annual production includes 45 million metres of denim, 95,000 tonnes of synthetic materials, and 12,000 tonnes of cotton yarn,” Modani stated.

The company, he said, continuously upgrades its manufacturing facilities for consistent quality and modernises with auto-doffing ring frames in PV-dyed yarn to save energy and labour costs.

“With technology integration we are able to maintain control and efficiency as we expand. We use automated systems for remote monitoring and addressing machine issues, supported by a skilled team of mechanical engineers. We focus on high-quality products, minimal rejections, and reducing delivery times through in-house processes,” he added.

The company exports 30 per cent of its products to 58 countries and the remaining 70 per cent of products are consumed in the domestic market, he said.

Sangam India’s major export destinations include Turkey, the USA, Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, said Modani.

“The market conditions are tough currently, with our exports down by around 20 per cent. However, this is compensated by 10-15 per cent growth in the domestic market. We are expecting a turnaround in exports from this month onwards. With this expansion, we are looking at strengthening our existing markets, both in India as well as overseas,” he added.
