Ranchi: Experienced batter Joe Root became England’s most successful batter after he became the first batter from his nation to go past the 19,000-run mark following his unbeaten ton against India on Day 1 of the fourth Test.

Root tapped into his prime form to pull England back into the game after debutant pacer Akash Deep provided India with a dream start.

Along with Ben Foakes, he stitched up a 114-run partnership and ensured that England went wicketless in the second session for the first time in the series.

With an exquisite drive, he found the boundary line to raise his bat for his 31st Test ton.

With his knock of 106*, Root has now amassed 19,014 runs and became the first England batter to do so. His closest competitor is former England skipper Alastair Cook who struck 15,737 runs during his decorated career.

Root’s knock was a perfect blend of patience and aggression as he picked his moments to find the boundary line which kept the scoreboard ticking. With his game-changing knock, Root brought up his 10th Test ton against India in 52nd innings which is the most by any batter in the format.

Australia’s veteran batter Steve Smith has nine tons against India in red ball cricket. Cricket legends Gary Sobers, Viv Richards and Ricky Ponting have eight tons each to their name against India.

Coming to the day’s action, at stumps, England posted a score of 302/7 with Root and Ollie Robinson unbeaten with scores of 106(226) and 31(60) respectively.

Root’s composure was on full display while making his first appearance of the tour, Robinson caught the eye of the spectators with a six and a four during the final overs of the day’s play.

Root and Robinson stitched up an unbeaten 57-run stand which allowed England to amass runs at a healthy run rate. Their unbeaten partnership ensured England went past the 300-run mark and finished the day on a dominant note.

4th Test: Akash Deep’s dream debut shines; England 112/5 at lunch

4th Test: Akash Deep’s dream debut shines; England 112/5 at lunch

Ranchi: Fast-bowler Akash Deep shone in his dream-like Test debut as England were reduced to 112/5 in 24.1 overs by India at lunch on day one of the fourth Test at the JSCA International Stadium here on Friday.

Akash Deep, who picked 11 wickets for four games for India ‘A’ against England Lions last month, did the bulk of the damage with his sensational spell of 3-24 on a pitch which has a lot of cracks. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took a scalp each to add more joy for India in the morning session.

After being handed his debut cap by head coach Rahul Dravid and replacing the rested Jasprit Bumrah, Akash had Zak Crawley clean bowled for three via a nip-backer through the gate to send the off-stump on a cartwheel ride. The moment of happiness on getting his first Test wicket changed when the no-ball siren came calling, as replays showed he overstepped at the crease.

Crawley took full advantage of being let-off by Akash Deep, with his crisp drives, showing full face of the bat and flicking very well, including taking 18 runs off the fourth over of Mohammed Siraj. Akash Deep’s wait for the first Test wicket ended in the tenth over when he got a length delivery to nip away and took the outside edge of Ben Duckett’s bat to wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

One brought two as Akash Deep got one to seam in to beat the inside edge and hit the pad in front of off-stump. India got the lbw decision in their favour via review as Pope fell for a two-ball duck. Akash Deep finally took out Crawley for run-a-ball 42 when he got one to seam in from outside off-stump and went through the gate to hit the top of off-stump.

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root stitched a 52-run stand off 57 balls for the fourth wicket, but the former missed the sweep against Ashwin and was trapped lbw on the back thigh in front of the stumps, falling for 38 off 35 balls.

At the stroke of lunch, Stokes was trapped lbw for just three as Jadeja’s delivery kept low and hit the front pad just above the ankle. With Root still unbeaten on 16, England would need for him and other batters to hang around to make a competitive total.

Brief Scores: England 112/5 in 24.1 overs (Zak Crawley 42; Akash Deep 3-24) against India

Los Angeles: Actor and wrestler John Cena, who once tried his hands on rapping, has now joined an adults-only platform to show his other side while promoting his upcoming movie ‘Ricky Stanicky’.

Cena took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce his new venture and wrote: “…like you’ve never seen me before,” he teased. “Subscribe at the link in bio. @onlyfans.”

On clicking the link, fans are taken to an OnlyFans account of his character in the upcoming adult-rated dramedy.

The bio read: “You’ve found the verified OnlyFans account for Ricky Stanicky; renowned impersonator, philanthropist, investment banker, socialite, cancer survivor and method actor. Subscribe to get SPICY pics and vids!”

Unlike most other accounts on the platform which can only be accessed by those who make subscription payments, it’s free to subscribe to Stanicky’s OnlyFans account.

However, users must be at least 18 years old and create an OnlyFans account themselves, reports aceshowbiz.com.

There were two posts on the newly-launched Stanicky account. The first had a short three-second clip from the film which features Cena dressed as Britney Spears in her iconic ‘…Baby One More Time’ schoolgirl outfit, licking the ground.

The caption for it read: “Anyone want to hit this one more time?” the suggestive caption reads.

The other clip showed a sweaty Cena with a wallet in his mouth as an off-camera character says: “We’ll calm him down, relax.”

While his account seems to be a publicity stunt for the new movie, fans were nevertheless shocked by his move.

In ‘Ricky Stanicky’, Cena plays the imaginary friend of three childhood pals who comes to life. The film also stars Zac Efron, Andrew Santino and Jermaine Fowler.

4th Test: Akash Deep debut; Ahmed returns as England elect to bat vs India

India 2-1 Up in Series, Aiming for Unassailable Lead; England Must Win in Ranchi for Decisive Showdown

4th Test: Akash Deep debut; Ahmed returns as England elect to bat vs India

Ranchi: Fast-bowler Akash Deep has been handed a Test debut by India as England won the toss and elected to bat first in the fourth Test at the JSCA International Stadium on Friday.

India are currently leading the five-game series 2-1 and need a win in Ranchi to take an unassailable lead. On the other hand, England must win at Ranchi if they are to force the series into a tantalising decider at Dharamshala.

Akash Deep, who’s been a consistent performer for Bengal and India ‘A’ in the red-ball format, was handed his maiden Test cap by head coach Rahul Dravid. He becomes the 313th men’s player to play Test cricket for India. Akash Deep’s debut comes after India opted to rest fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah from the Ranchi Test.

“We would have batted first as well. Looks a bit dry and has some cracks, but that’s the nature of the pitch here. The last two games were good for us and we’ll have to play in the same way.

“Proud of a lot of young guys in the squad, they’ve taken the responsibility and have taken the challenge head-on. They are confident in their skills, moving forward it’s a good thing,” said India captain Rohit Sharma.

England have brought in fast-bowler Ollie Robinson and off-spinner Shoaib Bashir into their playing eleven, in place of Mark Wood and Rehan Ahmed respectively on a pitch which looks dry and has cracks already. “We will bat first. 2-1 down, a bit more important in the context of the series, but every game is important.

“The first one hour will give us an idea about how the pitch will play, but it was always going to be a bat-first track. My bowling is coming off well, it’s been a long time coming. I’m happy with the way we’ve operated throughout the series and looking forward to more of the same.”

Later, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement that Ahmed will return home from the India tour for personal reasons with immediate effect. “He will not be returning to India. England will not be replacing Ahmed for the rest of the tour.”

Iran to face Brazil in 2024 Beach Soccer World Cup semis

Japan, meanwhile, bowed out of the tournament after falling 8-4 to Brazil earlier in the day.

The hosts took the lead in the second period when Ali Mohammad crossed for an unmarked Abdulla Abbas to head home.

Just over three minutes later, though, Iran were level when Mohammad Masoumi scored with a header of his own, before goalkeeper Mehdi Mirjalili netted with a terrific volley.

While the UAE, who had not trailed at any point in the tournament before Mirjalili struck, tried to get back into the game, they couldn’t find a way through a staunch Iranian rearguard.

Team Melli will lock horn with Brazil on Saturday.
