New York: With just over three months remaining for the marquee clash between archrivals India and Pakistan on June 9 in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States and West Indies, construction work has started for the stadium in Nassau County. Construction of the modular Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York has made great strides in the last month ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, starting on June 1.

The 34,000-capacity stadium will host eight matches in the tournament, including the much-awaited clash between archrivals India and Pakistan. The ground will be home to India during the entirety of the group stages, where they will also face Ireland and hosts the USA.

The World Cup which begins on June 1 has seen the project in Eisenhower Park, Nassau County, 30 miles east of Manhattan rapidly taking shape. There has been significant progress to the impressive East Stand — which will house 12,500 fans — over the past month with cranes lifting the modular framework in place. In addition, preparation work has started on the north and south premium hospitality and media pavilions, as well as the modular stadium’s outfield.

The launch of the “out of this world” campaign film, and larger-than-life cricket balls landing in the nine host locations including Times Square in New York City and Bridgetown in Barbados, marked the countdown to the biggest T20 World Cup ever.

ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley said: “It is extremely exciting to see the progress made in the construction of the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York over the past month. Work on the outfield commenced in January and in the past few weeks the East Stand framework has really started to take shape.”

T20 USA, Inc. CEO Brett Jones said: “We are thrilled to see the venue taking shape and excited to welcome fans to the Men’s T20 World Cup from all over the world. While ticket sales have been strong, there are limited seats available for select matches and we encourage fans to visit tickets.t20worldcup.com now to guarantee their spot at the biggest T20 World Cup ever.”

New Delhi: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has overtaken Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, as the richest person in the world, as per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

As per the latest figures, the Amazon founder’s net worth is $200 billion, while Musk’s net worth is at $198 billion.

Bernard Arnault is ranked third with a net worth of $197 billion.

Elon Musk’s net worth is down $31.3 billion in the last year while Bezos net worth is up $23.4 billion.

He also owns space exploration company Blue Origin, which is included at Bloomberg’s calculation of investment cost.

Determining a valuation for Blue Origin is difficult because of its unique strategy and the fact that Bezos is the sole shareholder with no apparent intent to sell, according to Chad Anderson, CEO of venture fund Space Angels.

Shuttler Sai Praneeth retires, to join US club as head coach

B Sai Praneeth

New Delhi: World Championships bronze medallist B Sai Praneeth on Monday brought curtains to his international badminton career to pursue a coaching career in the USA.

The 31-year-old from Hyderabad decided to hang his racquet after battling nagging injuries since the Tokyo Games, ending a fairly successful career during which he won the 2017 Singapore Open. “With a mix of emotions, I pen down these words to bid farewell and announce my retirement from the sport that has been my lifeblood for over 24 years,” he posted on his Instagram account.

“Today, as I embark on a new chapter, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude for the journey that brought me here. “Badminton, you have been my first love, my constant companion, shaping my character and giving purpose to my existence. The memories we’ve shared, the challenges we’ve overcome, will forever be etched in my heart,” he wrote.

Praneeth will be beginning a new innings now as he is set to join as head coach of Triangle Badminton Academy in the US next month. “I will be joining mid-April. I will be the head coach of the club. So, I will be overseeing all the players there. Of course, once I am there, we will discuss elaborately about the role,” told PTI.

During an international career that lasted over two decades, Praneeth had some fine moments but the 2017 Singapore Open Super Series win and the bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships in Basel, Switzerland, were the most twinkling among them. Praneeth had reached a career-best ranking of world number 10 and also qualified for the Tokyo Olympics but couldn’t make a mark, losing all the matches to make a shock exit at the group stage.
