Hyderabad: The Congress’ announcement of its candidates for the Graduates’ constituency MLC elections has triggered unrest within the party, with several leaders and workers opposing the nominations, citing a raw deal to aspirants from BC and minority communities.
The Congress had announced Sama Rammohan Reddy as its candidate for the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates’ Constituency and Ramreddy Sarvotam Reddy for the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal Graduates’ Constituency. The Congress high command approved the two names on Tuesday when Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was in New Delhi along with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy. However, a few senior leaders from erstwhile Nalgonda are learnt to have expressed unhappiness over the decision to field Ramreddy Sarvotam Reddy without consulting them.
With Ramreddy Sarvotam Reddy finalised as the MLC candidate, the Suryapet Assembly seat is likely to be offered to former Tourism Corporation chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy in the 2028 elections. Ramesh Reddy is considered a close associate of the Chief Minister. This, a senior leader from Gandhi Bhavan said, could impact the political plans of a few senior leaders.
Similarly, objections are being raised over the decision to field Sama Rammohan Reddy from the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates’ Constituency.
The Telangana Core Congress NRIs has even appealed to graduates to reject the Congress candidates. In a social media post, the Telangana Core Congress NRIs strongly condemned the MLC nominations. “Who is this Sama Ram Mohan Reddy? Where were our core Congress workers who fought BRS on the streets for the last five years? Where was he?” they asked.
Questions are also being raised over the alleged neglect of other communities, particularly BCs and minorities. “Did you not find any BC children? Did you not find any Minority children? This is blatant social injustice and we hope Rahul Gandhi takes this violation seriously. Except for shouting in TV debates and defending the failed ABVP CM Revanth Reddy, just like Addanki Dayakar and Balmoor Venkat, what does he know about graduate issues?” the Telangana Core Congress NRIs stated.
“This is nothing but donating the MLC seat to the BJP! In the past, you yourself donated eight MP seats in the MP elections and the Karimnagar MLC to the BJP. Now the same conspiracy again! We, as Telangana Core Congress NRIs, reject this nomination. We appeal to the graduates of Telangana to teach them a befitting lesson,” they added.
