Narayankhed MLA manages to get DCC President post to his brother against wishes of Damodara Rajanarasimha

The Congress high command has appointed Patolla Chandrasekhar Reddy as Sangareddy DCC president, ending a prolonged deadlock over the post. The decision came despite opposition from Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha and leaves rival factions assessing their next political moves

Sangareddy: The efforts of Narayankhed MLA Patlolla Sanjeeva Reddy appear to have paid off, with the Congress high command appointing his brother, Patolla Chandrasekhar Reddy, as the president of the Sangareddy District Congress Committee (DCC).

What made the appointment significant was that Chandrasekhar Reddy secured the post despite opposition from Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha. More than half a dozen leaders were in the race, with Chandrasekhar Reddy, Nagesh Shetkar, brother of Zaheerabad MP Suresh Shetkar, and Zaheerabad Congress leader S Ujwal Reddy emerging as the top contenders.

While appointing DCC presidents for all districts in November last year, the party leadership had kept the appointments for Sangareddy, Rangareddy and Ramagundam Corporation pending.

The AICC announced the DCC presidents for these three units on Saturday night. Chandrasekhar Reddy replaced outgoing DCC president T Nirmala Jagga Reddy, who had continued in the post due to the delay in making the appointment.

The appointment of Chandrasekhar Reddy has sparked an intense political debate within the Congress and across the political spectrum in the district, as he secured the post despite opposition from the Health Minister.

Interestingly, Jagga Reddy had also supported Ujwal Reddy, who enjoyed the backing of some key ministers in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Cabinet. The appointment left Ujwal Reddy and Zaheerabad MP Suresh Shetkar, a strong rival of Narayankhed MLA Sanjeeva Reddy within the Congress, disappointed.

Sanjeeva Reddy not only managed to secure the post for his brother but also surprised Suresh Shetkar and Ujwal Reddy with the outcome. However, it was not immediately clear how Sanjeeva Reddy managed to convince the high command to appoint his brother.

Congress cadres heaved a sigh of relief as the party leadership finally put an end to the issue, which had appeared to be an unending saga. However, they remained wary of how Damodara Rajanarasimha, Suresh Shetkar and Ujwal Reddy would respond to the appointment.
