Ganesh idol immersions begin at Hussain Sagar on third day of festivities

Hyderabad: On the third day of Vinayaka Chaturthi festivities, a trickle of idol immersions was witnessed at Hussain Sagar here on Wednesday.

Though no pandal idols were taken out for immersion today, devotees were seen bringing idols from their homes for immersion.

Households traditionally immerse Ganesh idols on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, or 11th day of the festivities; this year’s astrological calendar extends the festival, meaning the final grand Ganesh immersion for Anant Chaturdashi will take place on the 12th day.

The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) has officially announced that the centralised idol immersion in Hyderabad will take place on Anantha Chaturdashi day on September 25.

Families gathered along the banks of Hussain Sagar for early-morning idol immersions, bidding farewell to smaller idols amid spiritual fervour. Popular stretches around Tank Bund, including NTR Gardens, Necklace Road, People’s Plaza and IMAX Theatre Lane, were busy since early hours.

Alongside the GHMC sanitation teams, private workers have been heavily deployed at the Tank Bund areas to maintain cleanliness and assist devotees.
