Iran’s embassy in Madrid has congratulated Spain on winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the title was a well-deserved achievement earned through talent, dedication and strong teamwork.
In a message posted in Spanish on X, the Iranian embassy extended its congratulations on behalf of the Iranian nation to Spain on the victory.
“On behalf of the Iranian nation, we wholeheartedly congratulate Spain on their brilliant World Cup victory,” it said.
The embassy added that the “well-deserved” championship was the “fruit of talent, dedication, and team spirit.”
It also congratulated the Spanish people on the “historic triumph.”
Spain were crowned World Cup champions for the second time in their history on Sunday after defeating defending champions Argentina 1–0 in extra time at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
After a goalless 90 minutes, substitute Ferran Torres broke the deadlock in the 106th minute, finishing from close range to give Spain the decisive goal.
Argentina, reduced to 10 men after Enzo Fernandez was sent off late in normal time, defended resolutely, but could not find an equalizer despite a late push.
Spain dominated much of the contest, creating the better chances throughout the match before finally making the breakthrough in extra time.
The victory secured Spain’s first World Cup title since 2010 and ends Argentina’s reign as world champions.

Spain’s World Cup title belongs to nation that stood against Zionist crimes: Iran football chief
President of Iran’s Football Federation Mehdi Taj also congratulated Spain on its 2026 World Cup victory, saying the championship was claimed by a nation that “stood against the crimes and occupation of the Zionist regime.”
In a letter to Rafael Louzan, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), on Monday, Taj hailed Spain’s “committed and courageous” stance in opposing Israeli crimes and occupation.
“The world celebrated Spain’s victory not only because of the brilliant performance and football merit of the team, but because this cup belonged to a nation that, in one of the most important and difficult moral tests of the contemporary world, did not remain silent in the face of oppression,” he said.
The Iranian football chief added that the championship was won by a nation that courageously raised its voice in support of the Palestinian people and opposed Israeli crimes.
“Spain reached the summit of world football at a time when the clear, humane and courageous positions of its people and government in opposing the crimes and occupation of the Zionist regime have earned the respect and admiration of free people worldwide,” he emphasized.
Taj said Spain’s victory brought joy not only to its football fans but also to many people who did not sacrifice human dignity for political expediency and stood alongside the oppressed people of Palestine.
