Shadnagar: BRS workers burn Congress MLA’s effigy over controversial remark

Congress MLA Veerlapally Shankar sparked controversy by saying party legislators would play “Chavu Dappu” at BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao’s residence in Erravalli. Shadnagar: BRS workers burn Congress MLA’s effigy over controversial remark

Hyderabad: Amidst the criticism over Congress party’s intemperate language towards BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, Shadnagar MLA Veerlapally Shankar said the party MLAs were heading to the BRS chief’s residence in Erravalli to play “Chavu dappu”, which is usually associated with funeral processions.

Not confining to the comments, the MLA maintained that there was a need to get rid of the BRS chief. The Congress MLA made these controversial comments while heading to Erravalli.


In a video that is circulating on social media, Veerlapally Shankar is seen saying “Yes, we are playing Chavu Dappu for him,”

When asked as to why Congress MLAs were praying the BRS chief’s death, he replied “He is a peeda (infestation) for this State and we have to get rid of it,”

His comments triggered a political controversy. The BRS strongly objected to the Congress MLA’s remarks and wanted him to mend his ways.

The BRS leaders staged a protest against Veerlapally Shankar at Shadnagar chowrasta. Tension prevailed in Shadnagar with BRS workers assembling in large numbers to burn the Congress MLA’s effigy.

Despite the local police obstructing the BRS leaders, they turned up in large numbers. Under the leadership of former Shadnagar MLA Anjaiah, they burned Veerlapally Shankar’s effigy and raised slogans against the Congress government.
