Hyderabad: Several celebrities and prominent personalities from the film industry residing in Hyderabad have opted to retain their voting rights in their native places in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the majority of the celebrities from Tollywood and prominent people from various other industries who had voting rights in Jubilee Hills have chosen to forego them while preferring their native places.

Confirming this, Telangana Chief Electoral Office officials said several Tollywood celebrities, including those from the big film families, have accorded prominence to their native places in Andhra Pradesh. “When our officials and BLOs reached out to them, the celebrities informed us that they wanted to retain their votes in their home towns in Andhra Pradesh. Although the celebrities did not exercise their franchise there, they have retained their votes in Andhra Pradesh while giving them up here,” officials said.

The Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency is home to a large section of the Telugu film industry, from actors and directors to producers, who have been residing in the area for several decades. In fact, several of them own homes and spend most of their professional and personal lives here.

In the Jubilee Hills constituency, where several Tollywood celebrities have been exercising their voting rights, the SIR information reveals that 1,48,859 electors have permanently shifted, which is the highest among 15 constituencies in Hyderabad. Similarly, 8,232 voters are reported dead, 13,500 are untraceable, and 7,279 electors are already enrolled.

Telangana CEO officials said the desire to stay connected with their hometowns has led several celebrities to retain their voting rights there. The decision is also attributed to them owning agricultural land and other properties in their native places.
