Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr. D. Raji Reddy announced that the institution is preparing a roadmap to boost the horticulture sector in Telangana. Speaking at Independence Day celebrations, he underlined the state’s vast cultivation resources and urged students to leverage them for start-ups in food processing, organic farming, and allied sectors.

Hyderabad: Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University Vice Chancellor Dr. D. Raji Reddy said the university is formulating a roadmap for the horticulture sector in Telangana and is committed to bringing new technologies to farmers.
Speaking at the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the university campus, Dr. Reddy noted that India has achieved remarkable progress across all sectors over the past eight decades, with particularly significant development in the horticulture sector.
“There are immense opportunities for horticulture students in Telangana to launch startups through skill development. The state boasts 12.46 lakh acres of horticultural crop cultivation, a production volume of 41.04 lakh metric tonnes, and a farming community of 5.28 lakh farmers. Leveraging these vast resources, students have significant potential to develop innovative business models in sectors such as horticulture-tech, food processing, organic farming, horticulture-fintech, and export businesses,” he said.
Stating that horticultural crops yield 3.5 times higher profits per rupee invested compared to traditional agricultural crops, Dr. Reddy said by capitalizing on these opportunities, students have the potential to serve the farming community and establish Telangana as a hub for horticulture startups.
