Hyderabad: A woman was arrested by the Chilkalguda police for allegedly attempting to murder her mother-in-law following a dispute over family property in Secunderabad on Thursday.

The suspect, identified as D Vijayalakshmi (33), is alleged to have attacked her 57-year-old mother-in-law, D Padmavathi, at their residence in Erukala Basti, Chilkalguda, on Tuesday.

According to police, Padmavathi was alone on the first floor of the house when the suspect allegedly assaulted her with a vegetable-cutting knife. She is alleged to have pulled the victim by her hair, dragged her and inflicted multiple injuries on her neck and fingers in an attempt to kill her.

The police maintained that Padmavathi was angry with her mother-in-law over some household issues and attacked her.

Neighbours, alerted by Padmavathi’s cries for help, rushed to the house and rescued her. The injured woman was shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where she underwent emergency treatment.

Police registered a case and arrested the woman. Further investigation is underway.
