CM KCR will switch on the Narlapur pump house commencing its wet run under Stage–I of the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme on September 16.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will inaugurate the much-awaited Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Scheme (PRLIS) on September 16. With the press of a button, he will commence the wet run of the mega pumps (145 MW X 9) of the Narlapur pumping station installed as part of Stage I of the ambitious lift irrigation scheme.
It will be a historic occasion for the people in the drought-prone southern region districts of the State as the drinking water component of the lift will help quench the thirst of people in 1,226 villages. The Narlapur pump house has nine mega pumps with an operational capacity of 145 MW each. Krishna river water drawn from the foreshore of the Srisailam project will be pumped into the Narlapur reservoir, 2 km away from the project.
The Chief Minister will address a public meeting on the occasion. People from erstwhile Mahabubnagar and Rangareddy districts, who are in a celebratory mood with their dreams coming true, will attend the public meeting in large numbers.
The Chief Minister, who held a high-level review on the progress of works on the lift irrigation scheme at the Secretariat on Wednesday, directed Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari to make arrangements for its inauguration. He also instructed her to make transport arrangements for the general public attending the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Chandrashekhar Rao recalled that the Krishna basin projects were subjected to neglect during the previous regimes in the undivided State. Plaques were unveiled marking the stone laying for projects and then left to their fate without adequate allocations. The PRLIS could overcome several major hurdles, courtesy the sustained efforts made by the State government, he said.
Stating that the commencement of the drinking water component of the PRLIS would be a historic occasion, the Chief Minister wanted the people in the beneficiary villages to be part of the celebrations that were to be organised in a grand manner.
People, who attend the public meeting at Narlapur on September 16, will collect the sacred Krishna water and take it to their village to anoint the feet of the deities.
