Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has told Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that mutual respect and the practical fulfilment of commitments are essential for any lasting agreement, warning that the United States and Israel are actively seeking to undermine regional stability by violating their obligations.
In a phone conversation with Sharif on Friday night, Pezeshkian reviewed the latest regional developments and ongoing diplomatic efforts, stressing the need to preserve the gains of political initiatives and strengthen regional cooperation to establish lasting peace and security.
He thanked Pakistan for its high‑level delegation at the funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, describing the presence as a sign of the deep historical, cultural and religious ties between the two nations.
The president also praised Pakistan’s responsible stance and its efforts to reduce tensions and advance diplomatic initiatives in the region.
US, Israel undermining diplomacy
Pezeshkian pointed to a dual track of developments: while diplomatic efforts seek to consolidate the ceasefire and prevent the crisis from spreading, the Zionist regime and its supporters, along with the United States, are attempting to disrupt the process by violating their commitments.
“Alongside diplomatic efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and prevent the expansion of the crisis, a dual process has emerged in which, on one hand, the Zionist regime and currents that support provocative policies, and on the other, the US government, are seeking to disrupt existing processes and prevent the establishment of calm in the region,” he said.
He emphasized that Iran has always acted responsibly and in good faith in fulfilling its obligations, and that it is only natural for other parties to do the same.
“Mutual respect and practical commitment to obligations are the prerequisites for any lasting and successful agreement,” the president said.
Pakistan stands ready to continue mediation
Sharif expressed concern over the latest developments and the possibility of renewed tensions, stressing the need for continued political efforts, restraint by all parties, and the consolidation of the ceasefire.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to continue its role alongside other regional initiatives, including Qatar’s efforts, in advancing diplomatic processes and reducing tensions.
Both leaders agreed to maintain political consultations and pursue the implementation of economic and trade agreements between the two countries.
The call comes amid escalating tensions following repeated US violations of the ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington.
On July 7, the US launched a series of strikes on Iran in response to what it described as Tehran’s attacks on several commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, with US Central Command describing Iran’s actions as a “clear violation” of the ceasefire.
The strikes targeted over 80 Iranian sites, including air defence systems and coastal radar positions.
In response to the US strikes, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said it targeted 85 American military positions in Bahrain and Kuwait.
Tehran, however, has accused Washington of being the real violator.
Iran’s top negotiator, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, accused the US of committing “major” violations, including violating Iran’s arrangements in the strait.
