Iran’s FM heads to Moscow to attend annual Caspian summit

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has departed Tehran for the Russian capital of Moscow to attend the annual summit of foreign ministers of the Caspian Sea littoral states.

Amir-Abdollahian left Tehran on Monday to attend the annual summit of the five littoral states of the Caspian Sea, known as Caspian Five, to be held in Moscow on December 5, and to discuss regional and international issues.

The top Iranian diplomat is scheduled to hold meetings with his counterparts from the Caspian member states of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.

Before departing Tehran, Amir-Abdollahian took to his X social media account and stressed the importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared challenges.

“I am setting off for Moscow in order to participate in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Caspian Sea littoral states and follow up on bilateral and regional issues with the Russian foreign minister and my other counterparts,” Amir-Abdollahian wrote.

“Cooperation and collective participation is of paramount importance considering the diverse economic opportunities and environmental challenges in this region,” he said.

“The Caspian Sea, as an accelerator of the growth of multilateral trade relations among the littoral states, has a special importance in the neighborly policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Over the past decade, Iran has attached high priority to the consolidation of relations with neighboring countries in the region, clinching landmark agreements and entering international economic coalitions as part of the Islamic Republic’s policy of confronting Western unilateralism.
