Remand prisoner escapes from Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad

A remand prisoner accused in a mobile snatching case escaped from Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad on Monday night while undergoing treatment after allegedly swallowing iron nails in jail. Police and jail authorities have launched a search operation to trace him.

Hyderabad: A remand prisoner undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital escaped on Monday night.

According to the police, the man, Syed Ameer Hussain, was arrested by the Trimulgherry police in connection with a case of mobile phone snatching and sent to judicial remand to Central Prison Chanchalguda on May 19.


While in prison, the man consumed iron nails, and on coming to know about it, the jail staff shifted him to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. The man, after getting an opportunity, escaped from the hospital. A complaint is made by the jail authorities at the Musheerabad police station. The police are making efforts to track and trace the man.
