Hyderabad: Well-known teacher and writer Banibrata Mahanta has been selected as the winner of the Muse India Translation Award 2025 for his translation of Kusum Khemani’s Hindi novel Lavanyadevi (Orient BlackSwan, 2024), Muse India, Hyderabad, said in a statement on Tuesday.
The book was selected from among 103 translated works from 18 Indian languages submitted for the award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a framed certificate, GSP Rao, Managing Editor of Muse India Hyderabad, said.
The Commendation Certificates were announced for translated works including The Last Bench, a Memoir in Bengali by Adhir Biswas, translated by V Ramaswamy; The Bitter Fruit Tree and Other Stories in Konkani by Prakash Parienkar, translated by Vidya Pai; A Game of Fire, a Punjabi novel by Nanak Singh, translated by Navdeep Suri; and D Kurinji Malar, a Tamil novel by Na Parthasarathy, translated by Malini Seshadri, the press release said.
The panel of 12 judges, comprising scholars and writers from across the country, was headed by a two-member jury consisting of Prof Sachidananda Mohanty and Prof Sukrita Paul Kumar.
