Hyderabad: The Pahadishareef police on Wednesday arrested a woman for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from handbags at function halls.
Police said the suspect, Shaik Shaheen Begum of Errakunta in Bandlaguda, allegedly stole around 50 grams of gold ornaments from a handbag during a function held in January at a function hall.
She used to enter function halls posing as an invitee and target handbags left unattended on chairs, particularly those suspected to contain valuables, police said.
A suspect sheet has been opened against her due to her involvement in property offences.
Officials said that Shaheen Begum was earlier involved in the murder of her husband, in which a case was registered at Pahadishareef police station, and she had been convicted to life imprisonment in that case.
