Harish Rao slams use of Telangana Govt funds for Revanth Reddy’s Harvard programme

Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao criticised the Congress government for using the State Education department’s funds to finance Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s leadership programme at Harvard Kennedy School in the United States.

The controversy follows reports that the expenses for the Chief Minister’s participation in the “Leadership for the 21st Century” programme, held during his US visit from January 25 to 30, were cleared from the Education department’s account through a government order (GO 5). The issue surfaced after the government’s response to a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by a Hyderabad resident.

Responding to the order, Harish Rao questioned the decision, arguing that funds meant for education should be spent on students and institutions rather than on the Chief Minister’s personal training.

“Breakfast for hungry school children is cancelled, but a Harvard certificate for the Chief Minister is sponsored,” he said, accusing the government of misusing public money.

He also questioned how a personal leadership programme could be classified as an official tour and charged that the move reflected misplaced priorities at a time when government schools and colleges were facing resource constraints.
