Mahabubnagar: BRS appeals to SEC for probe against officials

Mahabubnagar: Alleging that a few police officers and other officials were favouring the ruling Congress party, former Minister V Srinivas Goud appealed to the State Election Commission (SEC) to constitute a committee, probe their irregularities and initiate action accordingly.

The former Minister said people and opposition candidates were being openly threatened with dire consequences in Mahabubnagar.

Considering the partisan attitude of the police officers, there were apprehensions over the free and fair conduct of elections in Mahabubnagar Corporation, he said on Tuesday.

“Pressure is being exerted on the Opposition parties’ candidates to withdraw nominations. Unable to bear the atrocities, a candidate even died by suicide in the erstwhile Palamoor and all this is happening in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s home district, Goud stressed.

When election officials in the district were being complained about the irregularities, they were not initiating any action, he charged.

The BRS party shared all the evidence against the police officers, who were favouring the ruling Congress party in the elections. An appeal was also made to relieve such erring officers from election duties and ensure free and fair elections, he added.
