Hyderabad: The Joint Action Committee of Telangana Employees, Gazetted Officers, Teachers, Workers and Pensioners (TGEJAC) has decided to announce its action plan after Deepavali over the State government’s failure to fulfil its promises, particularly regarding the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) report.
The State government had assured employees in September that it would obtain a report from the Shivashankar Committee on the PRC recommendations. It had also promised to constitute a committee to examine the recommendations. However, two months have passed without any action on either assurance, TGEJAC leaders said at a press conference here on Friday.
“We have been patient enough in allowing the government to address our long-pending issues. We demand that the government announce a 51 per cent PRC. Failing this, we will announce our action plan after Deepavali,” TGEJAC Chairman Maram Jagadeeshwar said.
The pending dues payable to employees have accumulated to around Rs 10,000 crore, the committee said. It demanded that the government release Rs 2,000 crore every month to clear the dues. TGEJAC also pointed out that employees had 60 other demands, many of which were non-financial. The committee members said the New Employees Health Scheme had been streamlined but continued to face problems.
“Many hospitals are treating employees and their family members as second-grade citizens. They are referring them to trainee doctors and staff. This is not acceptable,” TGEJAC Secretary General Eluri Sreenivasa Rao said.
TGEJAC seeks five-day work week
TGEJAC also demanded a five-day work week in the State, citing the water and power crisis caused by El Nino.
The committee said the move would benefit the government in several ways. It would help save water and power in government offices and reduce traffic congestion on roads. Sreenivasa Rao added that the five-day work week was already being followed by the Central government.
