Industries advised to utilise treated wastewater as drought grips Telangana

Hyderabad: In view of the impact of El Niño and the prevailing severe drought conditions in the State, the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TG PCB) on Wednesday urged the industries to explore the possibilities of utilising treated domestic wastewater from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) of local bodies and gated communities for industrial purposes.

At a meeting with representatives of the Jeedimetla Industries Association, PCB officials emphasised the need to reduce dependence on groundwater and fresh water for non-potable and industrial purposes by utilising the available treated wastewater as an alternative source.

The industry representatives visited the CETP operated by JETL which currently has the capacity to make 12 lakh litres of treated wastewater per day available for reuse.

The officials explained that the treated water produced through the treatment process is of good quality and can be utilised for various industrial requirements in the Jeedimetla industrial area.
