TGSWREIS plans inspections by School Education department teachers

Hyderabad: The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) has decided to deploy teachers and officials from the School Education department to inspect its institutions. However, the move has raised questions over how teachers of the same cadre can assess their peers.

In a recently issued circular, the TGSWREIS asked the Director of School Education to issue necessary instructions to teachers and officials under the department to participate in panel inspections at its institutions.

However, TGSWREIS teachers have objected to the inclusion of School Education department teachers of the same cadre in the inspection panels. They are of the view that teachers holding the same designation and cadre may not be able to assess their performance accurately.

“Residential schools’ functioning and academic plan of action are entirely different from those of day-scholar schools. How can a school assistant who holds a similar designation and cadre as a trained graduate teacher assess them?” a TGT asked.

According to the circular, the inspections will assess teachers’ classroom performance, their control over the class, teaching methods, motivation and student involvement in the teaching-learning process. The panel will also examine notebook corrections, evaluated answer scripts and students’ learning outcomes.

The panel members have also been asked to examine students’ learning and understanding levels. They will also check whether institutions are implementing programmes such as coding and computing, French language, Project Sampoorna, NSF, Mindspark, Voice for Girls, Voice for Boys, Mission Prakruthi and Physics Wala.

Apart from academics, the panel has been tasked to inspect food quality, hygiene, sanitation, drinking water facilities, provisions issued to students, and their safety and security in the institutions.

Following the inspections, teachers will be assessed for 100 marks. The evaluation will cover lesson planning, teaching methods, use of teaching aids, communication skills, notebook corrections, evaluation of answer scripts and students’ learning levels. A review meeting will be held with teachers to discuss their strengths and shortcomings.
