Karimnagar: Former mayor S Ravinder Singh has demanded that the government take steps to protect a 2.18-acre piece of land located in the market area of Karimnagar. Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, he alleged that a portion of the land had been occupied by members of Masjid-E-Adalat, who had taken up construction work. He said the land belonged to the people of Karimnagar. He said it was regrettable that the land had been encroached upon despite court orders and records of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC).
The former mayor accused municipal officials of negligence in safeguarding the land, even after representations had been submitted. He wondered why the officials were not taking steps to protect the land. He asked them to prevent further encroachment without succumbing to any pressure.
Ravinder Singh urged the officials to verify the records and called on the government to conduct a survey of the land. He urged them to take special steps to protect the land situated in the prime location. He wanted the present mayor and governing council to make efforts to safeguard the land if they were not involved in occupying the asset.
He announced that they would intensify their agitation for the protection of the land if civic officials did not respond to the issue immediately.
