Speaking in his weekly press briefing on Monday, he emphasized that the powerful Armed Forces of the country do not have the slightest hesitation in defending the Islamic Iran with all its might.
“We are in a state of war and we will certainly not hesitate in exercising our inherent and inalienable rights to defense,” the spokesman underlined.
Referring to recent diplomatic developments, Baghaei stated, “Regarding the region and in particular, the Islamic Republic of Iran itself, we are monitoring the situation very closely with extreme power and and intelligence, and have prepared ourselves for any scenarios.”
Turning to the Knesset elections in Israel and the narrative being pushed by Israeli officials concerning the possibility of a preemptive move by Iran to disrupt the electoral process, he stressed, “I do not believe there is an ‘election’ taking place there. What exists is a rivalry between various factions vying to commit even greater acts of malice. It is a contest among individuals whose primary platform is, ‘I can commit more crimes and killings than you can.’ It makes no difference to us who takes the helm of a regime whose track record shows it has brought nothing to our region but violence and slaughter. This regime is highly skilled at conducting ‘false flag’ operations.”
Earlier, in an interview with German broadcaster ARD on Sunday, Baghaei had said that Iran has learned that Washington and its leadership cannot be trusted, as their strategy “is not diplomacy, but attacking the Islamic Republic.”
Responding to President Donald Trump’s rhetoric that the US will not attack Iran before the midterm elections, he emphasized that regardless of what the US president says or does not say, Iranians remain prepared, given American attacks even while diplomatic processes were underway.
He recalled a statement by Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi that Iran and the US had made significant progress, yet Washington still chose to attack Iran—a reference to the American war amid talks with Oman acting as an intermediary. “The US has not shown the least bit of goodwill and will for a diplomatic approach,” Baghaei noted.
