More than 300 fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers participated in a forest marathon organised by the Forest Department and Greensequre Foundation in the Gadpur forests of Mancherial. The event aimed to promote eco-tourism and showcase the district’s natural attractions.

Mancherial: A first of its-kind marathon, organized by the forest department in collaboration with a Hyderabad-based Greensequre Foundation on jungle safari tracks in the forests of Gadpur here on Sunday evoked an overwhelming response from fitness enthusiasts.
The maiden event, aimed at promoting eco-tourism and exposing forests to the outside world, saw participation of over 300 fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers from not only Telangana, but also Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, as well as Germany and Australia. Local MLA K Premsagar Rao along with Kawal field director S Shantharam flagged off the marathon.
Male and female fitness enthusiasts from diverse age groups assembled at the entry point by dawn. They sprinted through the forest covered by fog and hillocks and ancient Gandhari Khilla, soaking in serene wilderness and taking glimpses of spectacular views. The rhythmic pounding of their footwear echoed through the otherwise tranquil forests.
Some of the runners sustained minor injuries after slipping down as the tracks meandered through rocky terrain and perilous curves. They, however, reached the target reflecting grit and resilience. Ambulances were kept ready for handling medical emergencies. The participants were fed at the end of the event.

The participants expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and were all praise for the department for hosting the event. They remarked that the planning and hospitality were outstanding even as the department conducted the programme for the first time. They opined that the forests of the district were beautiful and had potential to attract tourists.
While Gadamalla Venkatesh, a police constable from Karimnagar got the first place, Gudikandula Sathish, an inspector and Satish, a scribe of Mancherial stood at the second and third places respectively in the 30 km category. The participants were presented medals, T-shirts and certification of appreciation. Cultural programmes were held to enthrall participants.
To support the runners during the arduous run, the department arranged water, glucose, bananas and oranges fruits at regular intervals. Vehicles ferried supplies, while staffers were stationed every kilometer to document the event. Staffers of the department and volunteers communicated through walkie-talkies for coordination.
ITDA-Utnoor project officer District Forest Officer Rahul Jadhav, FDOs Sarsweswhar, Rammohan and Vijay, FROs Purnachandar, Ratnakar Rao, Santosh, Dayakar and many other officials were present.
