Four policemen injured in mob attack during ganja cultivation probe in Adilabad

Four policemen, including an inspector, were injured after a mob allegedly attacked them while they were probing a ganja cultivation case in Sirikonda mandal of Adilabad district. Police suspect the attackers were followers of a self-styled godman who was arrested a day earlier for cultivating ganja.

Four policemen injured in mob attack during ganja cultivation probe in Adilabad

Adilabad: Four policemen including an Inspector sustained injuries after a mob assaulted them when they were conducting an inquiry into a ganja cultivation case at Vayupet village in Sirikonda mandal on Saturday.

Police said around 50 unidentified residents suspected to be followers of a self-styled godman and an accused in a ganja cultivation case attacked Echoda Inspector Ramesh and three other policemen with sticks while they were carrying out an inquiry into the case. The injured police officials were shifted to RIMS-Adilabad. Their condition was said to be stable.


Ramesh received head injuries, while an ASI and two constables suffered simple injuries in the attack. An attempt to murder case was registered against around 20 villagers.

On Friday, Chahakati Ramu, a godman from the village was arrested on charges of cultivating ganja crop. He was taken into custody while trying to flee during a raid conducted by the police. Police recovered 18 plants worth Rs 1.80 lakh from his possession. Ramu reportedly confessed to committing the offence for quick financial gain.

In a related case, 29 persons have been arrested on charges of pelting stones and attacking policemen and forest officials during a plantation drive conducted by the Forest Department at Keshavapatnam village in Echoda mandal in July of 2025. Shaik Altaf, the prime accused in the incident, was taken into custody in September 2025.
